In a stunning move designed to push the Rockets from solid playoff team toward legitimate NBA contenders, the Rockets reached agreement Tuesday with the Sacramento Kings to acquire gifted but controversial forward Ron Artest, according to an NBA executive with knowledge of the deal.
The Rockets will give up guard Bobby Jackson, a No. 1 draft pick next season and another player that the individual with knowledge of the trade could not name. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey could not be immediately reached for comment.
Because of contract considerations, the trade will not be announced until Aug. 14, though that would indicate the deal could include Rockets’ first round draft pick Donte’ Greene. Greene is not permitted to be traded until then, one month from when he signed with the Rockets.

Sorry, but you guys could've gotten a lot more for Artest in my opinion. Houston is now a serious contender, finally. Looks like T-Mac will finally lose his second round virginity.

Martin/Udrih/Hawes/Thompson/Greene/Brown/Garcia+2 firsts next year

HELL YES. We have an awesome young group of players. I really like this deal for us because I'm a huge fan of Greene.

K-Mart and Greene (possibly?) could yield decent dividends in the future.

Plus you got a first out of it.

It's finally over. The whole Artest trades/talks/rumors. I really wanted to keep Artest but oh well. We are now officially rebuilding IMO. After this trade, the Chicago trade/rumor becomes more interesting.

Couldn't it be Dorsey instead of Greene? I'd hope for the Kings' sake it'd be Greene though, or else Sac could've done way better.

Sacramento has a fair number of bigs. You're lacking wing players after trading Artest, so Greene makes the most sense.

Wow

Good deal for both teams

Houston at least well increases their chances of making it out of the 1st round - but still, until they prove themselves enough to me (health), I'm not going to label them title contenders yet. Probably will turn out to be so, eventually, though. At least with getting out of R1. T-Mac/Yao can't get hurt significantly, as usual.

Ron will be a great fit in Houston, and will complement T-Mac tremendously. Houston finally has that third offensive guy, in legitimate and diverse fashion. I'll definitely root for and watch the Rockets some more. I'd be so estatic right now if I was a Houston fan, especially after he kicked their ass basically every time in the last couple seasons - I'm glad for Ron, though.

I definitely like getting Greene, questionable at best if he can be a starting 3 in the NBA, but regardless, he's a quality athletic foward prospect. Intrigued to see him develop, and manage his shot selection. I think right now, he'll be a unique combo foward off the bench, or an undersized (mass) 4.

Clears up things at SF so there isn't any log-jam. B-Jax and the R1 pick are solid assets, and B-Jax back around on the team will be fun.

Just wish there could of been a better team, better defensive team put around Ron (past the inital 06 time). Damn shame that couldn't be built off of the 06 season.

This also obviously takes the Lakers out of the Artest picture, for at least this season. May well be even forever, too, since Ron's on a quality team that will be around for 3-4 years.

West continues to get tougher and stronger

Salmons/Garcia/Martin/Douby/Beno/B-Jax is quite a nice group on the wing, plus one of Brown/Singletary.

If anything one of Garcia/Salmons/Artest needed to go to open up minutes, and the most likely was Ron.

Amick's blurb on the trade:
http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/sp ... 14187.html

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Ron Artest is headed for Houston. And according to a source close to the Kings, the reported deal is well on its way to taking place.
The Kings would receive Bobby Jackson, a first-round draft pick next season, and recent first-round draft pick Donte Green. The trade, however, can not be finalized until Aug. 14 because that is the earliest date on which Green can be traded. There could also be other players involved to make the deal work. Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie had this to say in a statement.
"We've had some very positive discussions with Houston involving Ron, but no trade is imminent at this time," Petrie said . - Sam Amick

Jackson is expiring. Odom still has two years and a boat load of cash left.

Rebuilding teams don't need that kind of salary.

Lol @ Donte Greene having much value.

Wasn't he an early 2nd Round pick? And Odom does NOT have 2 years left, he is an expiring.

It's not like that first round pick is going to be any higher then 25 now anyways. Not only that, you guys didn't shed a bad contract either.

Odom's a good player, but really didn't make sense for this team. Can't be justified as being so, either.

You'd rather have Donta Greene over Lamar Odom?

. . . okay.

Frankly, I would rather have a swift kick in the groin than Odom on the Kings, but that's just me.

if the kings wanted a 29-30 yr old player that has peaked and is due a new contract at the end of the season they would have kept ron artest. its not that hard to see why there is no interest in odom.
