Would you rather the Kings surprise everyone and make the playoffs or get a top 10 pick next year?


Post answer then ask a question of your own... this forum needs something different than Donte Greene or Brad Miller to Chicago threads...

If it's in the top 3/5, then draft pick, which in the range of ten, who knows if ti would be that high.

So, definitely making the playoffs, valuable experience for the guys, and our young players get/get more exposure.

We will get the same spot as the past two years. Either pick 10-15. If I wanted a surprise though, it would be playoffs. As ballings said, it would be "valuable experience". That's the most important thing to a young team, experience.

Playoffs. Sucking, sucks just ask Whorier fans.

Rubio. I think Rubio's creativity and defense are incredibly valuable. Plus, Rubio isn't one of those Marcej Lampe type guys that's young and big and being looked at solely on his potential; the guy is already absolutely DOMINATING in his league.

Never, and I do mean NEVER, underestimate the value in a young guy winning an dominating early on--just ask Tiger Woods.

I have to say that by surprising and making the playoffs (while already holding a second rd.1 pick next year from Houston) we would be in much better shape in two ways: 1) the experience factor as previously mentioned and 2) the attraction factor to 2010 bigger name FA's of an already playoff-caliber young team that just needs that one big piece to make it a contender.

My question - do you sit on the Houston pick and wherever ours ends up next year and trust that Petrie will draft two nice players that will develop into solid or even star level NBA guys, or do you packeage both picks and say one of our already established guys (John, Frisco, Spencer or whoever - except Kevin) and make a play for the #1 or #2 from whoever gets it and figure that they probably will bite because they will be a team that needs everything anyway?

If we have a chance to jump that high I think you have to go for it.. However, I think it would have to include Kevin for any team to pull the trigger.. I dont know if Rubio (I say him cuz he seems to be the favorite for the #1 pick) has that automatic star potential for me to pull the trigger.. He has some big drawbacks, i.e. jumpshot and athleticism. So I would say try to get in the 5-10 range and target a Jennings, Lawson or Collison... But I think it has to be a point guard. Beno is good but he does not have that star quality..

Has to be the playoffs. Unless the pick is close to the top (Top 3-5ish range). I really want the youngsters and Martin have the opportunity to compete at the highest level of play against other teams.

Lottery pick is the clear choice.

First round and out of the playoffs again, is redundant and old.

Come on. How many times do we have to ask people to not bring up politics? You can discuss it all you want in the appropriate places. Everyone should know by now that these are not the appropriate places.

Why is everyone sticking with the first question? The concept here is that each poster answer the question that was posed in the last post, then you pose your own question.

So, to get this back on track, the last question/comment posed was: Beno is good but he does not have that star quality..

I think this is a fair assessment. He has definitely shown that he has solid skills as a penetrator and does a fair job as a distributor. He is a solid starter for a team that does not necessarily need to rely on a PG as the main floor general. But he's not "star quality"...just supporting cast.

Next question: Would you rather have Martin as the #1 option or as a very efficient #2 option?

^ Agreed about Beno.

On Kevin? Definitely very efficient #2, for the longer-term. I don't think he'll be at the level of high-level wings around the league, consistently, but he can definitely be gone to at times.

Kevin Martin isn't a number 1 option on a championship team. He could easily be the #2 option though.

Hawes.. I cannot say different until I see Thompson play a real game.

I don't know if there is a clear cut #1 or even #2 next year. I just hope our young guys get a chance to develop for a year or two.
