Is anyone else high on him? I do want our team to do well but in the back of my mind I want to see us with a top pick next year so we can get this guy. He's a bigger PG who presses the ball and gets a lot of steals, he has great court vision from the highlights I've seen, can shoot, pass, good off the dribble, basketball iq and instincts. He's 6-4 and only 17 so he's a bigger PG. Rubio and Kmart backcourt would be

I honestly have not yet had a chance to look at him, but if he is a bigger point who still has good speed, then I like it for a start. Apparently he played some key bench time for Spain in their first game (not big numbers, but it was a fairly low scoring game), and that was behind Calderon and Navarro, so that's pretty nice to start.

if you've never seen him play, look him up on youtube, the kid is pretty tight. not the greatest speed or athleticism but he can play.

Not exactly quick or athletic, and his defense needs work, but this kid can do anything on the offense end of the court. I would LOVE to get him.

But is he doing that because he is just bigger and more skilled than the level of competition he is playing against? How does anyone think he would fare in US D-1A collegiate ball?

When he was 16 years old, he played in Euroleague, the 2nd best club competition in the world, much better than college ball, and led the league in steals.

In the minutes I seen him play in the Spain/Greece game, I was really impressed. He is really mature for a 17 year old, and can run an offense really well.. The only thing he might need to work on is defense and shooting, but the dude is 17 years old.. He got enough time to develop..

Has there ever been a young euro guy who DOESN'T need work on defense by our standards? They play team "D" in FIBA because the style of the game, the way the post is arranged and the abundance of shooters requires it. There are very few strong individual defenders that come OUT of international ball.

From what I have seen and heard, I think the guy would be great for the kings. My question is where will he go in the draft? If he is like top 3, how the hell will we get up there without giving up hawes/martin/thompson.

Are you sure he will go to this year's draft? Or the other? 2010?

He's eligible for the next draft, and IF he does enter, I think he HAS to be #1 overall just because of all the hype.. But I just don't see him giving up the money in Europe to come over

Rubio isn't dominating anything; he was pretty good in the Spanish league, kind of like how Jameer Nelson or Rajon Rondo is in the NBA now. He's definitely got great instincts and good timing, but let's not get carried away. He's super young, he's starter-caliber in a good league, he's shown flashes--but he's not Lebron. (Apologies for being off-time with the thread.)

Agreed. It is not like we are so horrible to guarantee to be in top 5 picks.

It's very probable (if not a fact) he won't be in the 09 draft, he is probably going to wait until the 2010 draft.
