Jason Thompson projected stats for 08 season

Post#1 » by nbenmargi » Wed Oct 8, 2008 10:54 pm

What does everyone predict Jason Thompson will average in his rookie year in the NBA? Do you guys think he will earn a starting role in this team? If not how many minutes do you think he'll get? He was branded by many as a pretty stellar draft pick and I'm wondering how the fans think he'll fare his first year in the NBA.

9/6? I don't know, it's extremely hard to judge for any rookie, and every team's fans will inevitably overhype what they've got.

Edit: Woah. I had a typo before.

The big question is going to be how much time he will see on the floor...and that won't be really known until at least the end of training camp. I doubt he will earn a stating spot, but he has the opportunity to earn minutes by working hard. Apparently he is working hard.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Like KIE said, I think it all depends on how much PT he gets.

Which, I also think will depend on how much Thesus is pressured to winning. Again, it doesn't necessarily mean tanking, but suppose Moore and Thompson are on a similar level next year. 2 minutes left, 1 point game, if we are pressured to win, Moore will be playing. If we aren't pressured to win, Thompson is in the game.

However, KIE you might have to get a new sig

I've been lazy and haven't taken the time to make a new one...give me some ideas.

Yeah it entirely depends on his playing time. I could see him playing sporadically this year, which would be a travesty of epic proportions might I add. It's time to move on already, the more lumps we take now the sooner the pain goes away. Hell, I still think they can surprise a few people.

Maybe a sig about how we should have drafted one of the many SF's after Hawes, Thornton, Wright, Young, :P

No, I'm just hoping Hawes takes everything as seriously as Thompson does.

However, with only 1 game as a judgment, I'm starting to think about Petrie's ability to draft/sign strong wing players, perhaps we move Thompson to C and Greene to PF in the future.

Don't get me wrong, because I fully believe that the 4 is our biggest weakness, and anything we can add there will be great. But I really think that there is a good possibility (especially if Salmons is traded at the deadline) that the appearance of more impactr will be with Donta Green because of his purer scoring ability. I see him ending up at around 12 ppg if Salmons moves and miutes are freed up. Wheras I see Thompson getting jammed a little more and ending up at around 5/3/.7 with a couple of really nice games along the way.

6.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1 assist, .5 steals, .8 blks

Rookie's tend to have meager stat lines. Only a few RARE rookies really make an immediate impact.

A better question might be what do you anticipate J-Thomp to average his 3rd year in the league, and that should be more indicative of his career averages.

Well for Jason, who does have 4 years of experience in college BTW albeit not in a major program, if given time he may be able to do more than some expect. Just like his playing time it would depend on his role. If he is asked to be nothing more than a garbage man rebounder/defender then don't look for too much in the way of PPG or APG.

I think like last year it's going to be a year of thrown together lineups, strange rotations, etc. At least at times. If the "vets" flop out of the gate then I see the full on youth movement going forward. Still, that may mean strange rotations and substitution patterns. There are way too many bodies and not enough minutes to go around. If Mikki and Brad were not here, or were for some reason out of the rotation then clearly one of Jason/Shelden are getting major minutes.
