Why do we hate beno?

So just looking at some trade threads and wow, tinsley is now equal to udrich?!?! I am not the hugest beno fan around, but I know he's better than tinsley. So let me give you guys some perspective. Beno is not and will not be a starting pg in this league for years on end. He is going to be one of the best backups for years and years, but the guy straight up is not a starter. I understand that no one on the kings is playing very well, but they will get their act together and win a couple games. This doesn't mean we should ship off beno because he isn't the perfect point guard some of us thought he was. I do think that it's time that people listen to the rumors earlier.

Kings trade: Miller and Williams
Bulls trade: Hinrich and Noah

Williams is not very well suited for this team, and Noah is a better overall player, period. With Hawes showing that he can play some basketball, I think that Miller is no longer needed, and if we can get Noah in this deal, then Hawes and him will be able to split time. Bulls really don't need Hinrich at all, so them getting miller would be a great addition to such an athletic team because of his passing ability. Thoughts?

i would be all down for that trade, but i don't see bulls parting with noah unless there's a pick or we throw in douby as well, i don't know.

Good idea, douby is given as well.

Here's the problem with us getting a player like Hinrich...we just signed Beno to STARTER money so he could be our STARTER. You don't pay someone MLE+ type of money and then only have them play 15-20 minutes a game. We should have drafted Chalmers, who looks like the real deal...

Over Jason Thompson? Chalmers will be a more of a reach than Thompson in the lottery. And Jason Thompson proved people that he was adequate for that selection.

^^ No, but I feel that we could have traded into the late 1st round and took Chalmers before Miami did in the 2nd. Many teams were selling off their picks for money, something we did not take advantage of. I'm sure cash + 2 2nd round picks could have sealed the deal (two picks that turned into absolutely NOTHING, by the way).

Ah, I see. Well, it is known that the Kings front office hardly makes draft moves in draft night. Which I find very strange. But then again, Petrie might be active during draft night but he couldn't find a better deal or whatever. But I do agree with you though, getting an early 2nd round should have been easy considering that we have 2 2nds and etc...

But the overall trade is a no go for the Bulls IMO. Would they give up Hinrich and Noah for Miller and Sheldon? Well, it is somewhat an incentive for the Bulls to move Hinrich because it will increase Rose's playing time and getting rid of Hinrich's contract. Eh, I'm too tired to fully analyze the trade...

Beno is a starter on some teams, but ones that have great talent around the PG that don't need great passing from the position (pretty rare, but my point is about his raw talent).

I don't hate Beno, but I hated the way he played in the first two games. Fortunately he was a little bit better tonight.

But for what it's worth, when Tinsley is healthy he is better than Beno. Not a knock on Beno, Tinsley is just a very talented PG. His problem is that he is quite injury-prone and a knucklehead, so I'd still rather have Beno.

There is no way I would ever consider tinsley better than beno right now, but Beno just doesn't seem to have the pure talent to start in my opinion. But you raise a point that he's a starter on some teams. You're right: bad teams, like the kings. He isn't really that good.

As for the chalmers arguement, I think that we should have traded our picks and cash as well, but the what if game is a nasty one. I mean, what if we drafted who I wanted, Rajon Rondo, instead of professional bench warmer douby. Don't play the what if game.

Chances are, we will be landing a top 7 pick this year, and should be able to draft a future starting PG. Beno would most likely be starting for 2 more years, (this year + the rookies 1st and maybe 2nd year)

I'm willing to wait it out a little while longer, but if he doesn't get back to last season's performance, I say we ditch em on Dec. 15th when the ditchin's good.

Tinsley + incentive for Beno may very well be something that helps this team rebuild again. Shaving 2 extra years off of Beno's deal may seem insignificant now, but could be HUGE for us down the road.

But that's just the thing--nobody will take Beno if he doesn't improve from his current play. Indy would be better off just waiving Tinsley than taking on an extra two years for a player that also isn't worth his contract. Especially since if Beno doesn't improve from his current form, he really won't be any better than Jarret Jack as a backup, and he definitely won't be challenging Ford for the starting spot.

So if he doesn't get back to where he was, I think we're just plain screwed. Fortunately, I think that's pretty unlikely, and I think we'll basically be fine. Lots of guys get off to rocky starts.

+1

And the fact is we don't have a PG option better than Beno right now. I don't think Beno's contract is bad, and I don't think it's "starter" money either. It's fair market value for a guy his caliber.

Money wise it's about right 5 millionish...however, it's the LENGTH of the deal that disturbing to me. You don't have back-up PG's locked up for 5 years. The guy just needs to pull his head out off his rear. I mean, I can't remember an NBA player incontrollably falling on the ground as much as Beno except for Manu perhaps, but Manu was doing it on the defensive end, whereas Beno falls down on the offensive end inexplicably.

Beno will get the hang of things and he'll probably be our starter at least through next year. At which point we'll have him locked up for 3 more years on a contract he'll be worth, so he'll be movable. I'm not too concerned about it.

Beno is going to play better once Miller & Garcia return. Remember those two? Our starting center and very talented sixth man? All the Kings players are a little outside their roles until those two come back.

As for the proposed trade I don't think the Bulls would do it.

I liked Beno, but I'm honestly starting to loose faith in him. And getting Hinrich as starting PG wouldn't be a bad idea IMO.

I know we should probably give him a break, but these first 4 games have been beyond horrible and we need while Kirk would probably not be the PG of the future, he'd certainly play well and fill a void that were lacking atm.

The problem with Beno is that he looks entirely disinterested. I guess that can be said of more than just him though. Kevin looks like he isn't even having fun out there. I think the idea that they aren't expecting to go anywhere this season is hurting them more than motivating them.

As I've said every time someone starts spouting off about tanking for draft position...losing mentality breeds losers.
