Kings: The TV Show

Would you watch a reality show that was a behind the scenes look at the Kings. Sort of reminds me of the Hard Knocks series on HBO. I personally would love to see it and I think it is a great way to boost interest in the Kings.

Do not see Geoff Petrie as the reality type though....
Maloof Productions is partnering with reality icon Mark Burnett for a behind-the-scenes series called "Rebuilding the Kingdom" on all things Kings.

Burnett, the man behind "Survivor" and "The Apprentice," told the Hollywood Reporter the show would be "committed to creating fun and innovative programming."

The show is in the early stages and does not currently have a network partner.

Maloof Productions is well versed in reality TV, producing SpikeTV's "Bullrun" and "Living Lohan," a reality series following Ali Lohan of Maloof Music.

"It's a good idea," Kings rookie Jason Thompson said. "We have a lot of young guys, and (our lives) intrigue a lot of people, especially rookies' lives. We have guys who aren't shy to the camera. We have a lot of personalities and guys who like to have fun."

One of those personalities, Francisco GarcĂa, said he thought the series sounded like a "great idea." If the series on the Kings moves forward, it will be the first venture between Maloof Productions and Mark Burnett Productions.

I'm not sure what to think about this. Part of me thinks that I would rather the organization put more energy into actually, you know, rebuilding the team. Then again, if the Maloofs are preoccupied with this TV show, then maybe they won't have time to meddle with the team decisions. In a way it might be a good idea going into 2010. The Kings do have a problem when it comes to attracting big name FAs due to the perception that Sacramento has little to offer. Maybe a reality show centered around the team might add some attractiveness (although I think there would be better ratings for a reality show centered around other big name teams).

Yeah, I'm not too worried about it distracting the Maloofs. All I care about is them signing the pay checks.

I just hope it doesn't distract the people that need to focus--the players mostly. Also I kind of wonder about what kind of behind-the-scenes stuff we'll see. I would think it would just have to be the players' personal lives because behind the scenes of like...making personnel decisions obviously wouldn't be a good idea, and Geoff obviously wouldn't go for it.

I rather they spend the money on a new arena and/or better players.

Yeah it has to be about the players/coaching staff mostly. I just can't see Geoff Petrie being a big part of this. It depends on the focus and how intrusive it gets I guess.

I don't really know how popular this could be without some sort of drama. I just hope they aren't planning on upping the drama level for ratings sake. If not this really couldn't be much different than some of the programming they already show on NBATV or some of those Ahmad Rashaad pieces from his show.

What channel would it be on? Like a CSN/FSN, only local, or AMC or something?

Well I think the idea is to use it to make money....also "spending money on better players"....well it doesn't exactly work like that.

Why are some of you acting like the maloofs are on the verge of bankrupcy or something? Did anyone forget that they are extremely rich? No matter the cost of this show...im pretty sure we will have enough for "better players".

I like the idea. It beats watching Kings players in those lame car commercials. The Spencer Hawes one is just dumb and the one Cisco is in I can't even understand what he is saying.

Remember the Peja 'Good Feet' commercial? ...he was inaudible. He sounded like an alien from a Star Wars movie.

With the producer they teamed up with, I doubt it'll be on anything like Comcast Sports Net or anything small like that.

I like the idea.. With this, LeBron will come to the Kings to add Reality Show star to his resume and a show helps him in his pursuit to be a sports billionaire.

I think it'll probably be slotted in between Flavor of Love 17 and Celebrity Rehab season 3.

question...

how many people think the 2 losses have been somewhat of a result of maloof's comments? meaning has his comments messed w/ the teams momentum? WIth his comments i would think the players would second guess if what their coach is doing is right.

Personally, I think Maloof's comments were minor. He was praising Theus while giving constructive criticism. Althigh, constructive criticism isn't always good.

Well to be fair those comments were mostly about the 4 game start which was U-G-L-Y. I'd be pissed too but the have to admit since then this team is playing really well.
