Yahoo sports is reporting that Theus is fired this morning.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=A ... &type=lgnsThe Sacramento Kings fired coach Reggie Theus on Monday morning, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.
Assistant coach Kenny Natt was named the interim coach.
The Kings are believed to be intrigued with bringing former Kings coach Eddie Jordan back to Sacramento, but it’s most likely they’ll wait until the end of the season to pursue him. The Kings had lost nine of 10 games and are in last place in the Pacific Division at 6-18.

I got a text from my buddy about this about a minute ago. I was on IM with Howard Mass last night. I told him this was coming. Reggie will really be on careerbuilder.com now.

Why Kenny Natt? Why not Chuck Person, who was interviewed with a couple teams for their head coaching vacancy over the summer?

I don't know, but if the Kings keep firing coaches the Maloofs are going to be viewed Al Davis like.

ESPN is reporting that this is true, as well.
"Kenneth (Ken, or Kenny) Wayne Natt (born October 5, 1958, in Monroe, Louisiana) is a retired American professional basketball player and the interim head coach for the NBA's Sacramento Kings.[1]"
And it's already updated on Wikipedia

Natt is the perfect fit, Person couldn't have been picked because he was running the defense with Theus and well...you could see how the defense was working out. Also, Natt has TONS more experience than Person. This is a guy who worked under Sloan for 9 years (also under Mike Brown in Cleveland as well)!

Yeah, it's weird that Person was fired. I don't even know what that implies about behind-the-scenes stuff.

I am so upset by this. The kings aren't going to win anything this year, so just letting guys mesh and get experience together is vital. We keep on pressing the restart button, and honestly, this just won't work. What player wants to go to a team that can't win and has no stable coach? How can we get a bosh or a lebron when we're in a small market with no foundation.
This is complete bs and I would be extremely surprised if the kings don't move to vegas within the next few years. This is a terrible day in Sacramento Kings history.

It makes sense because he was mainly brought in by Reggie to corral Ron Artest. Similar to his role in Indy, we don't have Ron anymore so....
Guess I was right about Natt! I think it's the glasses or something.
Anyway welcome coach Natt!!!

They aren't coming here anyway, and the other possibly realistic ones not unless the $$$ is there.
This is the part where we most likely get an established coach next year (Eddie Jordan, just watch!) and as a coincidence a few just hit the market. It's all part of the cycle of sucking.

Chuck Person was the Defensive coordinator for Theus. Kings Defense = vomit worthy, so it was a natural progression.
Regardless, it was only a matter of time before Theus was fired.

I wouldn't expect them to. But I just realized this reading your post. Why the hell are we saving up for the 2010 market when we don't expect to get anyone? That makes zero sense. I don't even want to get into this right now. So what's next? The kings trade away miller, moore, salmons for expirings/picks/prospects? We get eddie jordan?
I don't know, but I just don't see anything good coming out of this. Natt won't be our coach of the future, and honestly, eddie jordan is not the best coach for our team. The only silver lining I can see comes from the prospect of Avery Johnson coming to the kings. I think that he could work wonders with thompson and hawes and make our team something special.

No real surprise at all. I made a post last week after the Denver game that talked about how the way the Kings were losing was a strong sign that the team had given up on Theus. Allowing your team to get completely dominated at the beginning of games AT HOME is totally unacceptable. Theus had a chance to get the guys back on the same page after the Denver humiliation and it looked like he might have succeeded when they played the Lakers. But then the Knicks come in and show that the Lakers games were likely more of a fluke than a real change in direction. It may not have all been Theus' fault, but he is the one who must be held accountable for the team's abysmal showing so far.
Will this be some miracle move to turn the team around? Absolutely not...the talent is just not there. But maybe the team will start making steps in the right direction: ie, show pride in their game, give the young guys more opportunities to learn and maybe...just maybe...enforce a coherent game plan that is consistent with Petrie's vision. I for one will be more interested in watching games for the rest of the season.

Theus did not deserve to get fired. I really don't think the Kings' roster is ready to compete, especially with Martin out.
I find it strange how Knicks fans have discussed Theus' firing more at length than Kings fans.

That's just a product of the fact that the Knicks' board has about 500 times more posters than the Kings' board.

Even still, this thread should be at 5 to 10 pages by now, not barely making it to the 3rd page.
I thought Sacramento had one of the stronger fanbases in the league. Do they just not get online on realgm as much as other teams' fans?

I don't think Theus was the problem. I think the veterans are the problem. Certain players I see are playing with hustle and energy while others aren't. It just seems to me that when Douby is coming off the bench and Jackson isn't that has to cut at the veterans. When Thompson is playing and Hawes is playing it cuts into the minutes of Brad Miller. One thing I noticed is that there is a link stating the Kings are shopping Brad Miller as well. I've been saying this for years that he needed to go! He pouts. He gets ill timed T's. I even called Grant (Napier) out for his double standards towards Ron, but when Brad does anything else he gets a pass. Brad Miller, combined with the horrible defense we play, are the problem. Bobby Jackson is a problem. Kenny Thomas is a problem. You get rid of those dudes and you'll see a culture change with the players. Cisco is the leader of this team. He has naturally been the most vocal and he hustles. If you get rid of these tired bigs and Jackson the team's poor effort will correct itself.
