Chicago having interest in Hawes?

Post#1 » by KF10 » Thu Jan 8, 2009 9:03 pm

While reading the "Natt counter Salmons' beef", there is a section in that article saying that the Chicago Bulls had interest in Spencer Hawes (and Kenny Thomas) moreso than Miller. Here is the section:

Future trading partners? – There was no swapping of uniforms before tipoff, but it wouldn't have been entirely absurd if various Kings and Bulls had done just that.

The two teams, according to league sources, had trade talks earlier this season that have been tabled for now. The Bulls need frontcourt help, but they appear to have more interest in second-year center Spencer Hawes than in veteran Brad Miller or even forward Kenny Thomas.

That could change, but the question on the Bulls' side is whether they will part ways with forward Drew Gooden (who has an expiring contract) and/or a young player such as Joakim Noah or Tyrus Thomas. According to the sources, Chicago offered guard Larry Hughes in the previous discussions. The 11-year veteran has a contract nearly identical to Miller's, with approximately $25 million owed to him before it ends after next season.

Only for Rose, and that's not gonna happen.

Poor Chicago, they really would have a good looking team if they would have picked Hawes over Noah.

I think the point from the article is more that the Bulls would be more interested in trading for Hawes than they would be in trading for Miller. Well DUH! The Kings are more interested in Hawes than they are in Miller...that's why Miller is available.

No combination of Bulls players on their current roster outside of Rose could fetch Spencer Hawes, not any.
Man I'm grateful they bit on noah.

So am I! I was actually laughing when they picked Noah! Although I was skeptical about Hawes and wanted us to pick Thonrnton, I'm actually really happy we got Hawes.

and if they really want Hawes then they better do this deal. KT/Salmons/Hawes for Rose/Gooden

Ben Gordon would have to be in the trade he is a Bibby like PG (20/5 type guy). Hawes is going to be a Miller like Center only we already have a vet Miller for 4 years still. JT will be better out of Hawes and JT. JT and Miller would be a great combo for years. Getting Ben would be far better for our team than Noah since it was Bibby that was the heart of the team. Noah is no Webber, neither is Hawes or Shelden or Gooden. JT is the closest big we have to a everyday scorer. Big guys are more interchangeable than incredible PG's. BGordon would put us in the playoffs for 10 years as a PG. Plus we have a # 1 coming up to get whatever we want if we need a PF or PG still. I would only trade Hawes and or Salmons for Gordon. A PG is our #1 need.

I know he wanted Noah. Now was that because he figured Spencer wouldn't be there at 10 or not? I don't know. I think more than a few people were shocked that Spencer wasn't taken by Chicago at 9. I know I was.

I think Petrie's interest in Noah was based on the assumption that the Bulls would have taken Hawes. Basically the thought process was "well, Hawes will likely be off the table, so that leaves us with Noah as the best available".
