Marvin Williams

This guy is it. He's our SF of the future.

I have looked at him and watched him play over the past couple of weeks, and he is the perfect guy to play next to martin, thompson and hawes. The guy can score, but he doesn't need to be the number one option (just look at what he's doing as a 4th option on the hawks), he plays great defense (with some work he could be artest like) and he's only 22! I have no idea how he has been under the radar, but I he will be a restricted FA at the end of this year. I think that we should offer him literally every cent we have available because he is it. I know that I am in the dreaming phase right now, but does anyone have any thoughts about this guy?

I would love to have Williams on this team. I would even trade for him now and re sign him in the off season.

We will definitely look at a SF in FA or draft one with our 2nd round pick.

I think that we would have to really put up some bucks. How much do you think we would have to spend to scare off Atlanta?

Yeah, Marvin from what I've gathered has definitely improved his all-around game like he was thought to do 1-2 years ago, to the point where he'd be a quality fit next to Kevin at SF.

I would seriously wonder how hard it would be to get him away from Atlanta. They are notoriously cheap and tight with free agents (look at what happened this past summer with Childress as an example). They have to figure what they are going to do about Bibby, and they will have other key guys coming up soon as well.

We wouldnt draft a SF, because we have Cisco and we do have Donte Greene if any of you have forgotten. We could sign a SF but we wont be drafting one..

Heres an idea:
Kings trade:
John Salmons
Beno Udrih
Houston 1st

Atlanta trades:
MArvin Williams
Speedy Claxton
Sacto gets there man in williams. Hawks get an obvious upgrade by trading their 5 million dollar mistake for ours. Also get a damn good swingman in salmons and a first rounder. i dont know how much these guys value williams, but if it were me i'd take it.

I would do that in a heartbeat.

with our first pick we take PG. We trade Salmons for 1st + Expiring and bam we still have a second first.

Curry(Holiday)/Beno
Martin/Garcia
Williams/Greene
Thompson/Blair?
Hawes/Blair?

That is such a beastly young lineup its disgusting. I think we need another vet to lead this team though.

Vlade out of retirement?

Hi, Hawks fan here.
I quote myself from the ATL board ;) (Link)

D21 wrote:Yes, he will be a Restricted F.A., but a "special" one because of his Q.O.
His Q.O. is for more than 7M$, so if he doesn't get a good offer, he can take the Q.O., stay with ATL next season, then become a Unrestricted F.A. in 2010 where lots of teams will have cap room.

About the Bibby and Marvin situation, I think ATL has great chance to keep both as long as they don't ask more than 10M/yr (a 20M total) as they already make more than 20M.
I see Bibby's pay cut going on Marvin contract.
The best would be to give them flat contract to not increase too much the salaries in the next years and it would give Marvin more cash immediately (with a 50M/5yrs, it gives him 10M in fist year with a flat contract, instead of 8,26M with a standard contract, and 3M more than his Q.O.).
And for Joe, his extension will come when Speedy 5M contract comes to end.

So if we don't trade expiring (Zaza) for running contracts, there is not so much problem to keep everybody.
And while I would like to trade for a big (Miller ?), adding salaries, I am OK to keep everybody and just add someone with MLE if we have room under the tax (especially if Zaza doesn't stay).

About Childress, looks like they did not offer something interesting, certainly starting under the MLE number, but it was mainly due to the fact that they didn't know at all how would cost Smith. I did not like the way it turned, but there was no possibility to match the Olympiakos offer (it would be a 10M/yr here). I think that if Smith signed the same contract in early July, Childress would have get a better offer (but still not better than the Olympiakos). The owners are not the best of the NBA, that's sure, but I can understand they did not want to keep both at the price of paying tax this season with a team that would not have be a contender.

Back to the trade, I don't think ATL want to trade Marvin unless they are sure that both Bibby and Marvin salaries would be way higher than right now (21M). Maybe if they think that they can seriously loose Marvin, they would consider trading him.
Since I thought a trade build on Miller for Zaza(expiring) + Speedy(paid by insurance) + protected pick would work ( not sure for you ), and some of you talk about Marvin + Speedy for Salmons + Udrih + pick, I think a mix could work, build on Miller + Salmons for Marvin + Zaza + Speddy.
It would give you Marvin and some money, and for ATL some help inside with Miller (said Salmons can fit Marvin role, which is not sure for me...).

Once again, it would need ATL to feel they can't keep Marvin (and SAC to feel they can keep him), but in this case, I think something build on that can help both teams.
What do you think ?

Both are interesting deals for the Kings, and I agree Atlanta only would be interested if they think they can't keep Marvin.

Marvin is restricted, but Ariza is unrestricted and he would give us similar production, with similar age and athleticism and better defense... at a lower cost.

I'd rather draft Terrence Williams from Louisville with pick #31/#32.

Here's the idea I came up with

Cleveland Gives:
Daniel Gibson, Wally Szczerbiak, 2009 2nd
Cleveland Gets:
Brad Miller, Shelden Williams

Sacramento Gives:
Brad Miller, Quincy Douby, John Salmons, Shelden Williams, SAC 2009 2nd
Sacramento Gets:
Wally Szczerbiak, Marvin Williams, Speedy Claxton

Atlanta Gives:
Marvin Williams, Speedy Claxton
Atlanta Gets:
Daniel Gibson, John Salmons, Quincy Douby, SAC 2009 2nd, CLE 2009 2nd

Well I brought this to the ATL board and they seem pretty adamant about wanting to keep him, so I seriously doubt trading for him would be the way to go because we would have to give up a lot and take on some bad contracts. I think that we would be better off giving Salmons to Portland or Cleveland for Exp and picks and miller for straight up expirings and that way we can keep our Hou pick, have another late round 1st and have the money to grab Marvin. That would be a much better route in my opinion. But, if we HAD to do a trade to get him, I think something like what D12 said.

Miller, Salmons, 2nd rounder for Marvin, Speedy, Zaza.

Quick and simple that gives ATL some nice pieces and allows us to match whatever sheet offer is thrown at them.

I also came up with a similar deal except I've swapped Douby with our 2nd round pick.

oh noes! you traded lebrons best friend boobie! hes untouchable!1!

For some reason, Cavs (well Cavs fans) are not eager to trade Boobie because he is LeBron's best friend. Which I think it is not a legitimate reason. But then again, the whole "Bobbie/James best friend" was last year and probably subsided this year.

Ok this is the deal in Cleveland since you are so nice and asked. The Cavs are in a bind now because all 3 of their SG's are injured. Delonte West has a fractured wrist, Pavlovic is out 6 weeks with a high ankle sprain and Tarence Kinsey also out 6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Wally and Daniel Gibson (and LeBron who starts at SF) are the only players left on their roster who can play SG. They just had to sign a guy from the D League who might have to play some minutes.

Now their beat writers are saying that Wally might not be on the trading block anymore because of the injury problems. Their management didn't want to trade Eric Snow's contract because of insurance savings but they will trade it for the right deal now.
