DONE DEAL: Miller/Salmons to Chicago (with Portland)

Sam Amick is reporting that a deal for Salmons and Miller for Nocioni, Gooden, Michael Ruffin and Cedric Simmons is being discussed and is "looking likely". Although there are other threads existing about Salmons and Miller in individual deals, it is looking like both might be moved together. So, since this is a potentially imminent deal, I decided that it is worthy of it's own thread. If this falls through, we will lock it later.

I think this rumor has legs because of the addition of Ruffin and Simmons. Salmons+Miller for Noc+Gooden as reported by Stein puts the Bulls in the tax this year, which wouldn't make any sense. Chicago would save money by adding in Ruff+Simmons, even if they sent cash to cover the salaries for the rest of the year.

Yeah, the earlier rumblings of a Miller deal to Chicago was a bit sketchy but this recent deal can be a true possibility. I'm not really digging this deal though.

I'd do a Salmons for Gooden deal and then a Miller for Rose deal with the necessary fillers that don't go beyond this season contractually.

Really? Straight expirings? Unless we are going to target Marvin Williams or other FA in this years FA class. I just don't like that.

I just don't lik Nocioni. We really don't get ANYTHING decent out of this deal but 5 mil of cap now. We're taking back a horrid contract.

There's also indications that the Kings are discussing sending Salmons and Miller to New Jersey for a package of Ryan Anderson, Stromile Swift, Trenton Hassell, and Eduardo Najera. Not sure which deal has the stronger potential. But given that Salmons has much more interest from other teams than Miller, I can see the likelihood that Petrie is going to go with a deal that ties Miller to Salmons.

I would SO much perfer the New Jersey deal it's not even funny. Anderson isn't that huge a gain, but Chicago's deal really offers little. Basically with Chicago it's 5 mil cap this year and Nocioni's fat contract. With New Jersey it's Anderson, the EXP from Swift, a two year 4 mil with Hassell and a crap but smaller deal with Najera.
Still. I was really hoping for more then this.

If it's Hinrich instead I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat.

DONE DEAL: Salmons/Miller FOR Noc/Gooden

The Sacramento Kings are the latest NBA team to engage in cost-cutting moves that will pare money from the team's books next season.
The Kings agreed on Wednesday to a trade that sends forward John Salmons and center Brad Miller to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for forwards Drew Gooden and Andres Nocioni, according to league sources. The deal will reduce Sacramento's obligations next season, saving the Kings millions on the salary cap and keeping them well under any potential luxury tax payments. Gooden, making $7.15 million this season, will likely come off the team's cap after this year, and now, the team is free of the $5.4 million due to Salmons in 2009 and the $12 million due to Miller in '09.

Per Sam -
(1:36 p.m.)
* There are indications that the Chicago deal is close to done, and it involves Portland.
Ike Diogu comes to Kings for Ruffin.
So..... Miller/Salmons turns into Nocioni/Gooden/Diogu.
I'm not to happy with Petrie's decision here.

That's effing garabge man. At least take Hinrich instead of Nocioni who just creates another LOGJAM. I mean SALMONS > Nocioni and Miller > Gooden. This is just stupid!

It's hard for me to keep track of this while I'm at work...but I'm glad that something has happened. I want to wait until I see the final details, but I'm encouraged.
