(7:47 a.m.)

And we're off...

Two league sources say the Kings are closing in a deal that would send forward Shelden Williams and point guard Bobby Brown to Minnesota for guard Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth.

McCants is a fourth-year guard who will earn $2.6 million this season and be a restricted free agent this summer, while the veteran big man Booth will earn $1.1 million this season before coming off the books. While Williams is a free agent this summer, this would take the Kings off the hook for Brown's $736,420 for next season that is a player option.

UPDATES TO COME...

We're THAT cheap now that we're gonna ditch Brown's contract?

I like McCants tho. He's inconsitent, but who knows? He could end up being a solid role player.

I have two guess to why we would do this. The first is that Geoff wanted to draft Mcants when he first came out in the draft. So now he finally has the chance to get him. The second is maybe the Kings see something in him and want to give him a shot?

I was under the impression that Garcia and McCants hate each other with a passion, not sure what McCants brings to the table aside from chucking. I think this was just to save an extra 1mil.

Yet another deal that makes no sense !

& how does this save us money ?

I would rather have B.brown rather than Mcants

I hope were lucky enough to get bayless from portland now !

Is it true that Sac doesn't want to pay for Brown's contract?

Hoopsworld.com also said that gooden is injured and its possible he may fail his physical causing the miller & salmons trade to possbly not go down i guess .

I think we wanted Rashad McCants. I don't think there is anything deeper going on here than that. I think with the number of bigs we now have, and Diagu and Williams being kind of similar players, it makes sense. Someone was saying we were short at the wing position, but we aren't now.

Wow, we're giving up a good young pg for 700K. BS. It does get us another gaurd though on a team stacked with worthless big men.

This is a good trade.

Shelden Williams. Drew Gooden. Cedric Simmons. Mikki Moore. Ike Diogu. On one roster? Heeeeeell naw.

I liked Bobby Brown :( And Williams.

McCants is ok. But he is a known chucker though. Can be streaky at times. I liked him before the microfracture surgery. He was actually an explosive scorer. Lets see what he got.

I like McCants as well. These are the type of deals I think we should have been making a long time ago. With Bobby Brown I saw some flashes of a good PG, but just as many flashes of a train wreck. I think this also signals that we are into Udrih for the long haul. We didn't get Hinrich and we just traded Brown.

This trade is not exactly a headliner and I had barely noticed it on the site that I found it on. I like this trade for you guys depending on how much money Rashad McCants gets during the off-season. He has a bright future and should work well under your system.

Gooden's there for his contract. If he fails the Kings will just waive it and keep the trade intact.
