From what I have seen from mccants so far here in sactown and in minnesota I am starting to like his game. If we resign him he probably wouldn't get much time at the 2 or 3 with martin garcia and nocioni. Do you guys think he could play the point for us? He obviously isn't a pass first guy but we haven't had one of those at point gaurd since j-will anyways.

No way is Cants just a bigger version of Douby. Cants has way more skill than Douby, and he has proven he can play at a high level. He is a ballhog and has had attitude problems in the past but skill wise he is 10x better than Douby. I think at this point it is 50/50 if Petrie brings him back. I think Petrie is looking to see if Cants can be that 6th man off the bench and be a scorer like how Bobby Jackson was for us years ago. Bobby was a black hole too but he provided energy and scoring and I feel Cants can do the same. So far I am in favor of us bringing him back, it's not like we have money to go after any free agents who are any better.

If McCants were smart he'd try to be a point guard, but that would be the closest thing to a leopard changing its spots I've ever seen.

He has the ability to play point, but I don't think he wants to do that.

Yeah, I think he has SOME skills that fit a PG, but that isn't what he wants out of his NBA career. For the Kings, I like a lot of the PG in this upcoming draft and would rather have us go in that direction.

He really reminds me of a poor man's D-Wade.

I have liked Cants ever since he came into the league, KG has said a lot of good things about him, and even though I hope Petrie brings him back I don't really see him as a pg. I see him as a scorer, a spark plug off he bench, but yeah not a back up point guard. I think that role is for Beno.

Petrie has been after Gooden for a while now so there is always that chance he tries to re-sign Gooden as well. If that were to happen it is possible to have this bench next year:

Beno
Cants
Greene or Garcia
Noc
Gooden

That's a good and experienced bench.

I think McCants can play PG in the sense that he's guarding point guards out there, but Cisco is doing majority of the ballhandling. It would have to be off the bench.

I miss McCants, I wish he was still on the Wolves.

However to answer your question that's a negative. He can flat out score with the best of them when he is playing well and he gets consistent minutes.

Please Sacto, give him mins I want to see him succeed like I know he can.

Rashad can do a lot of things but playing PG is likely not one of them. At his core McCants is a scorer. Really, he could be a great scorer if he ever gets his crap together. He can hit the J from anywhere, he has underrated athleticism, he is very strong. He even has a serviceable post game which is rare and very useful for a guard.

I like McCants game, he could probably play some point for parts of the game with the second unit. Sort of how Cisco brings the ball up sometimes.

I see McCants as a smaller Bonzi Wells, tough guy who has some scoring skills and not afraid to mix it up around the basket.

^ Small Bonzi wells is a really good comparison.
And I think McCants has better ball handling skills than Cisco, but I don't think either is an elite passer. Why not give him a shot at this point? Bobby Jackson was about 6 steps behind D-Will all night and garcia had more turnovers (4) than assists (3). Garcia is not a ball handler, and it seems like the kings are trying to push it on him.
We have no penetrate and kick guy on this team. Martin is about the only one that can penetrate effectively, but he would likely draw a foul once he gets inside. Maybe McCants can be this guy until we can figure out our pg situation this summer.

Eh, I wouldn't compare him to Bonzi Wells but he does have some strength to his game. He's like Jim Jackson if I were to compare him to a former Kings/smallish SG. I don't know if he has the playing making Jimmy had in his prime though. He is pretty good off the dribble and from long range and powers his way to the rack like Jimmy could.

Jim Jackson was ANYTHING BUT SMALL. THe guy was a freaking tank. He was 6'6 and a bruising 225. McCants while strong for his size, doesn't measure up to that at all. Not to mention he's a completely different BODY type.

At best there is a few inches or so between the both of them, and McCants is a little "tankish" himself if you haven't looked. Go look at respective media photos and tell me there aren't similarities. The on court similarity between them is the size, or body mass, doesn't really translate to their games beyond being able to post up smaller players and take contact, Bonzi Wells played like a big. He rebounded and posted up not only smaller players, but often times bigger ones (or at least taller ones). He didn't play like a conventional wing, both McCants and Jackson fit under that umbrella. Skill wise he has shown signs, but I doubt he has the overall talent Jackson had, maybe who knows.

I just think he needs to be in a situation where he can play HIS game. NOBODY knows what we are doing right now as far as a direction. We know we are rebuilding, but that's it. I can't even speculate, so how McCants will fit into all of this I don't know?
