Your thoughts on Beno?

I'm a Toronto Raptors fan and I was just wondering about this guy so I was hoping you fill me in. Does he have the qualities to being a starter? Is he good for his contract? If not how bad of a contract is he? How tradeable is he? Is he a plus when he is on the court? How much upside is left in him can he improve his defense has it been the same for the majority of his career? For the posters that answer my questions thank you.

He is exactly what Toronto lacks, needs, and wants.

Take him.

Its tough to gage Beno's talent, because he is so up and down. One night you think of him as a good up and coming player, the next you see a guy who disapears. I guess that is Ok on the bench, but he needs to be more consistent as a starter. But with that said he is young, and has little playing experience. His trade value can only go up. Last year he looked to be a starter, this year for the most part looked like a mistake. His contract overall looks bad, but should look better as he improves.

Kings would trade beno if the right trade came. Beno would be ideal behind Calderon. I guess what I'm saying about beno is he is up and down.

More like the Kings would trade Beno if they could, and it didn't worsen their financial situation. Beno is fine - he doesn't really do anything that well which makes him a hard player to invest much in. I guess he would be OK off the bench but normally energy players succeed off the bench and I wouldn't consider Beno to be that at all.

Is he terrible? No, but he isn't our solution at PG now or anywhere in the near future. He may be young but I'm not sure he has that high of a ceiling. I just don't see the talent underneath it all like you often do when you watch a player with "potential". However, he is most certainly tradeable, especially if we pull down Rubio or another PG in the draft.

How much are you digging a trade consisting of Calderon+the eighth pick for Beno+your second overall pick

If Rubio declares, hell no. If he doesn't it might be a good idea.

I doubt he will opt out of his current contract he is getting 6.5 million dollars put in his pocket. NBA GMs can only throw in 3 million for a buyout, very little chance he comes over this year.

2nd overall pick? Who says it's the 2nd overall pick, that's yet to be dertermined. Depending one what's going on and who's in I could see the Kings seriously considering that.

To be honest, if we had the #2 pick and Rubio was not in the draft...
I'd Do it! Calderon is a franchise PG in my opinion and LOADS better than Beno!

I dont think a beno and calderon duo would be ideal, both are defensive liabilities...

I do like calderon to....the problem though would be our defense, a lineup of jose and kevin would be awful defensively...Thats why here's to hoping that we may pick rubio cause kid's got size vision and possibly be a good pesky defender...

Calderon is NOT a franchise PG. Make no mistake.

There's a reason Toronto fans have soured on Calderon. I still like him as a quality PG, but he's definitely not a franchise level PG. Absolutely not.

Beno has Jason Williams potential. A solid starter who can make a play in the clutch but can't make the big shot in the clutch himself yet. At best he could one day be Steve Nashish at worst he would be Jason Williamsish. He would be better with a faster paced offense also with better finishing guys. The Kings have a lot of good shooters just not a lot of good finishers and the Kings get more assists from their bigs so their PG doesn't get as many assists in a different sysytem. I see Beno as 15/8 guy at best who won't make turnovers in the clutch if he doesn't have to be the guy. If you are not looking for the guy right now, like we are since KMart is invisible in clutch time, Beno would be a solid guy for a medium contract who has room to improve.

Anyone who thinks Beno is anyhting more then a career overpaid bency is fooling themselves. Beno is 25 right now, and forgive me for stating what I see obvious, but the guy is not 'bursting' with potential to do much more then he has done this and last. Last year he had better stats then he is now - not by much, granted, but considering he should have a FAR more proficent role in this year's team and given his stats, I think that shows PLENTY about his 'potential.'

JWill at worst, Steve Nashish at best? You have to be kidding me. While it may be true that if Beno had MORE weapons consistant he'd have more assists, but he's still no real playmaker. Decent/inconsistant scorer and a poor defender. He's nothing more then a 14/4 starter and overpaid MLE bency.

Rubio will opt out because he will make more off of his endorsementst if he does. Have you seen the Nike shoes he's been wearing? By coming to the NBA he'll sell more shoes for Nike and thus make way more then he'll make in Europe playing ball. If Nike want's him to play in the NBA I can assure you he'll play in the NBA next year.

In Jason Williams best year he went for 15/8 which is Beno's potential. We traded him by the way for a more clutch PG and I would happily do it again for Beno. Steve Nash and Devin Harris were given up on by the Mavs and had similar poor stats early in their career. Will Beno reach that level, probably not but somewhere else where he won't have to be the man and just get the ball to the stars and just make the play and not turn over the ball in the clutch is what he will be. We really need a better shooting PG and less traditional PG to run our system and there are many sysytems that will probably take him next year. He would not be as bad defensively if he had better defensive big guy protecting him also. Beno is an solid average NBA PG. We just need better than that since we are weak in other areas because of the youth of our big guys.
