Trading #1 Overall

I was curious as to what it would take for Sacramento to trade the #1 overall pick if the trend holds and it's what they end up with.

I ask the question not because I think Sacramento will trade the pick, but I'm sure the phone will ring quite a bit given the economic climate and the available cap space that Petrie traded for at the deadline.

Sacramento already has estabished or nicely developing players at SG (Martin), PF (Thompson), & C (Hawes). So, I think players from this positions might have slightly less value as trade for #1 then they would on the general market (which would be even more the case if they weren't locked in to reasonable long term deals, ie. Bosh & Amare)

Personally, I think the Kings might consider trading the pick if they get a top level PG in return. Someone that can go for like 17ppg, 9apg every night and bring out the best in developing the youth the team has. One of these players would be pretty hard to come by, but could be worth trading away #1.

Would that be a good move, or is there a good move as far as trading the first pick in a draft?

The lottery makes these hypothetical very unrealistic. We're getting a top 4 pick. And I'll assume the worst and hope for the best.

Griffin
Harden
Monroe
Thabeet

I think that's the top 4 picks there. I'm assuming Rubio doesn't declare, because that's worst case scenario. If he DOES declare maybe we add Monroe. I think Monroe will be a VERY good pro. But the draft has ONE star player, Griffin, with Rubio being a potential #2 guy if he declares. After that it's a crap shoot with a lot of very good-solid players. I think it's a deep draft, just no surefire STUDS outside of Griffin/Rubio.

I would be ok with trading blake griffen for chris paul, derrik rose or derron williams. i may hesitate on anything else that doesnt involve an MVP candidate or one of those pg's

that's what I was goin got say...I wouldn't trade it unless cp3, deron williams, or rose is comin to sacramento and that isn't happening.

I'm all for the kings getting a great PG at the expense of the #1 pick. However we simply aren't going to get Rose, Paul, or Williams. However I think we could realistically get Rondo, Harris, or westbrook all of which seem like potential allstar PG's. I would still rather just trade down one spot if Rubio declares and take him. We may be able to shed some salary or get an extra asset the trade would likely be with Washington so probably somebody like Young or Blatche +the number 2 overall pick.

you also have to remember just cause we have the worst record and the best chance at getting the 1st pick, very rarely does the lottery have the worst record getting the first overall pick...so we may get screwed and end up with the 3rd or 4th pick and have to settle for someone else...hopefully Harden

What about #1 & beno to memphis for Gay and their pick in which we draft either jenning or rubio is he enters.

(rubio or jennings)/solomon other FA pg
martin/garcia/maybe mccants
Gay/nocioni/maybe mccants
Thompson//donte/nocioni
Hawes/#23/FA

Obviously we would need to get another big. Either FA or #23

At the moment The Kings are one win in front of the Wiz and to infront of LA and the Grizzlys for most lotto balls, with a game with both the Grizzlys and Clipps so there still a large chance we come 4th which would give us a range of 1-7.

If we dont get a top 3 pick aka a chance at Rubio/Griffin, We Should trade down to a team with about the 10th pick and next years round one pick, with top ten protection. If we arent getting a future Star in this draft, something the Kings so despretly need, then we mite as well look to next years, this adds two picks around ten (more quality Role Players) and our probable top 4 pick next year to try and Snag a gun

i would keep griffen over those pgs. they are solid, but if griffen ends up like he should he will be more valueable than those three. kings need a pg in the worst way tho.

Take Griffin #1... Trade JT for #10 Pick and draft Jennings or Teague, + if they are not available take Derozan(or SF), and if we don't get Jennings or Teague take Lawson with the #23...

If the Kingss get the #1 I hope they pick Griffin. With Houstons pick and the first pick in the second round I would take the two best PG available.

This is a really crazy scenario that relies on a bunch of caveats, but it could be really effing cool:
1) We get the #1 pick
2) Washington gets the #2 pick
3) Memphis gets the #4 pick
4) The Maloofs would be willing to spend a little bit more for a deal that could pay huge dividends down the line.
5) Memphis really likes Jason
6) Toronto's financial situation isn't especially horrible and they'd like to get a late 1st round pick

Kings trade
Jason Thompson
Donte Greene
Houston 1st rounder
future top 10 protected 1st
#31 pick

Kings get
#2 pick
Darius Songaila
Etan Thomas

Outgoing: about $2.8million
Incoming: $13.9million
+8.5million, bringing salary total to about $53.5million before draft picks, after which, we'll be around $63-64ish million.

Draft Blake Griffin with the #1 pick , Ricky Rubio with the #2 pick and Darren Collison with #25

The idea? Forget about huge cap space next year (although there would likely still be some), and instead have the team built now--and build damn, damn well right now. Other than starting SF and some other depth, this team is basically set for the future After this, I would probably look to trade one of our wings for a similarly contracted big just to even out the roster a little, but this would basically be the idea.

Rubio\Udrih
Martin\Garcia\vet. min
Nocioni\Vet. min
Griffin\D. Songaila\K. Thomas
Hawes\E.Thomas

Memphis trades
#4 pick
Marko Jaric

Memphis gets
Jason Thompson
Nick Young
future top 10 protected 1st
Sacramento's 2nd rounder
Washington's 2nd rounder

Outgoing: $7.1million (with draft pick, about $10.6million)
Incoming: $9.3million (with draft picks, about $11.1million)
This is obviously done under the pretense that Memphis really likes Jason and hasn't been terribly happy with Arthur's progress. But with that, they dump Jaric's deal and get the hopeful PF of the future, a nice prospect in Young and another couple picks.

Conley\2nd rounder
Mayo\Young
Gay\Warrick
Thompson\Arthur
Gasol\Milcic

Washington trades
#2 pick
2nd round pick
Etan Thomas
Mike James
Nick Young
Darius Songaila

Washington gets
#4 pick
Marko Jaric
Donte Greene

Outgoing: (with picks) $19.4million
Incoming: (pick) $3.5 million

Basically, Washington dumps Thomas and James's salaries to get under the luxury tax--by a lot (like a total savings of $24ishmillion). As a penalty they downgrade from Young to Greene, and Songaila to Jaric along with the 2-spot drop.

Arenas\Crittenton
Stevenson\Jaric
Butler\Greene\MgGuire
Jamison\Blatche\Pecherov
Haywood\MgGee

Toronto trades
Cap space

Toronto gets
Mike James
Houston 1st round pick

You'd be absolute fools not to take Griffin. You adjust your roster around him, not the other way around.

Honestly, I think Blake Griffin will be a great player, however I would much rather get Rubio if he does declare. If this team had a pg currently, we would have a much better record. If we take Griffen, we will have a great big man rotation. However, I really do not think our team would be that much improved.

i see what your saying, but if we get rubio then we should trade down a pick to get him and try to get more assets. also it would suck if rubio pulls a peja or scola or splitter and takes a year or two to come the the nba

We have TWO 1st Rounders and an EARLY 2nd Rounder...
There is no need 2 take Rubio at #1 when he is clearly not the Best Player Available...
Not Saying Griffin is MJ, but we don't want 2 be the Blazers + Rockets of 1984!
What do u guys think of Maynor or Patty Mills with Rockets Pick?
