i was wondering how much cap space the kings are going to have going into the offseason and after they re-sign their players and after they sign their picks.
so basically how much money will they have to sign free agents?

Basically about 7millionish, assuming we don't try to re-sign any of our FAs.

My guess is they might re-sign Diogu for about $4mil (Gooden would have cost near $8) who adds to the core. They may also trade KTexpiring this summer for a $8mil player.

Haha, no way do they re-sign Diogu for 4 million. Depending on the draft they may look to bring him back but I am positive they wouldn't spend that kind of money on him. Speaking of Gooden, look at him, he had a dominant game and then the next day or so he was waived!

I change my mind, bring back Ike for whatever it takes!!!! Hahaha.

lol..yeah I wouldn't mind having him come off the bench for us. But if we get Blake, no real point. We'd need a good backup center to fill in for Hawes. Not sure Ike could play center all the time..

IF the Kings renounce the rights to Ike and McCants. Then we'll have roughly 7.2 million. Ike makes 3.95 and McCants ~2.65. I really don't see McCants coming back, and I dunno if Ike does either.

Again, if we sign ANYONE we will no longer have cap space for a max free agent next summer.

Although players like 'Bron, Wade, Bosh are unrealistic to sign, a player like Joe Johnson is completely in the range of possibilities.

How about a player like Sessions?

Thing is, with Nocioni, Beno, and Garcia on this team, if we sign a guy like Sessions we won't have the money for a guy like Joe Johnson.

If we resign McCants, Diogu, or ANY FA to a deal longer than 1 year this summer, we won't have money for a Joe Johnson, Wade, Lebron, Bosh, etc. etc etc.

It's pretty much quantity or quality....and lately...since our decline...we've been choosing quantity over quality.

I really want Joe Johnson in a Kings uniform. His deal is up in 2010. Knowing the Hawks management, they will likely be screwed over by contract situations.

Any player we sign we will have to overpay for (relative to NY or LA), however some players are simply unrealistic cause everyone will overpay to get them (Lebron, Wade, CP3...)

However, Atlanta has cheap owners, if we throw a max front loaded contract at JJ, we have a verrry good shot at grabbing him.


Now, I'm going to be extremely optimistic for a moment, and say we draft Blake Griffin. Let's say we improve and end up with a pick 5-9 range next year.

Now, of course we would have to get lucky and have all the players pan out, but if they do, that could be a legitimate threat.

No but we haven't had the pieces that typically go for an all-star either = excess draft picks, promising young talents, expiring contracts, even instant cap relief.

We have those pieces now.

How about Etan Thomas/Washington lotto pick for Washington pick.

We move up in the draft and take on Etan's contract for 1 year(hey we gotta get up to 13 contracts somehow)

Washington shed off 6.5 million dollars next season and gets near the projected lux tax threshold while only moving DOWN in the draft.

hmmm...so smills, your thinking we use ths salary space we have to take on etan's contract to get a extra lottery pick?

If we'd be under the salary cap, I'd do it. If we could get Griffin and Rubio, or Rubio and DeRozan, etc...that'd be pretty sweet.

I'm sure the Kings would love that deal but why would Washington do it? Drop down about 19 spots to move an ending contract. I hear you preach about the value of KT's contract being an expiring and Gasol type deals that could be had so wouldn't the same thought process apply to Washington. Hell, you've proposed Harden and KT for Bosh AND a 10' 1st round pick. Realistically, Songalia and Stevenson would have to be the contracts they take back.

Yeah, I think Joe Johnson is our actual and legit route for us considering all the factors. For some reason, I just like our chances nabbing him.

No, it's about putting all your eggs in one basket and playing the percentages. If our one and only legit chance and nabbing a free agent lies with one individual, let alone a player probably around the bottom rung if not lower than the "superstar" plateau, we're in trouble. It would be much wiser to go another route, and that means building up a backlog of assets that will give you the opportunity to determine the moves you make. At this point it's looking less and less like that will be a one step process via free agency.
