So after watching the Bulls-Celtics series, I think its become obvious for the Kings to make that big step and become contenders or even a playoff team we're going to need a defensive minded player in the frontcourt. These kind of players are invaluable with their hustle plays, running the floor at all times, rebounding and shotblocking/altering. Even if Hawes and Thompson reach their best case scenario potential neither can be that player. Jason Thompson will run the floor hard, hustle and rebound, but he lacks the shotblocking presence we need. Whats encouraging is that I think Petrie realizes this which is why he wanted Noah in the 07 draft and has went after Anderson Varejao in the past. Does anyone have a player in particular in mind we can bring in via draft,trade of free agency to fill that void? As far as the draft, Im not a big fan of Thabeet but I could be wrong.

Those kind of players are limited and their talents are fully utilized on a contending team i.e. Varejao/Cavs.

Not saying Noah is bad. He is showing that he can be one of the top role (bigman) players in the L.

For the Kings, we just need TALENT in general.

I agree the Kings do need a real #1 scoring option to pair with Martin. Hopefully we catch a break and land Griffin but even if we do a Hawes/Griffin/Thompson frontcourt is very similar to Utahs (Okur/Boozer/Milsap) and I dont think would be successful. We'd still need a player in the mold of Noah/Varejao/Perkins in the frontcourt to provide a defensive presence and do the dirty work.

I am just glad Chicago was dumb enough to take him instead of Hawes. I would be pissed if it went the other way around. Dude is a head case, and not very talented- not what the kings need.

he was a big part of 2 titles college team, that's not underacheiving.

BTW - the neighbor's grass is always greener, Noah got a big exposure due to the Bulls series and he did show great rebounding, defense and hustle, but he also showed inability to score on a play other the occasional pick and role.

Varejao & Noah are significantly overrated.
I'm not sold on either one.

If the Kings end up with Griffin, I think the 3 man rotation with Hawes & Thompson should give us plenty of talent in the post.

Reread what my quote was. I said in the NBA. He was a man amongst boys in college and dominated.

By the way original poster- 1.4 blocks a game is not dominate. 7.6 rebounds is not dominate. And 6.7 points a game is pathetic. If this guy is supposed to be a "defensive specialist", he better get better at defense. Hawes put up similiar defensive numbers, but also almost doubled Noahs scoring.

Congrats to whoever started this tread- you watched the bulls play in the playoffs. I'm watching the Hawks play right now and I think this team needs a flip murray. See how rediculous that sounds?

Noah put up almost 8 boards and 1.5 blocks and only played 24 minutes a game. Hawes puts up less rebounds and blocks in near 30 minutes a game. All of Noah's positives dont show up in the stat sheet. When you have an active big man with size and length who hustles and runs the floor hard at all times it makes your team defense that much better.

And LOL at your last comment. Look at who's won titles and who are the contenders. They all have defensive anchors.

If Noah was a defensive anchor he probably would of been playing more than 24 minutes a game. I wouldn't mind having him on our team but I do agree he is over rated and I would not give up much. He is probably more valuable to Chicago than anyone else. I also am glad Chicago waqs dumb enough to take him over Hawes. I was even posting something to that effect as soon as it happen. I watched Hawes a lot when I was in Seattle (even when he was in high school). It was obvious that he wqas the more skilled player than Noah. Hawes was the most sought after high schooler in the nation, he is a loayal guy and wanted to stay home and go to school in Seattle but he could of gone anywhere.

Anyways, if you want Noah we can just draft Josh Heytvelt in the 2nd round and unlike Noah Josh can actually shoot the ball too.

I, for once, agree with murray. People watch the playoffs of a dude or two, and say, "ooh oooh! We need a guy like that!" Jerome James Syndrome I call it. JJS, for short.

I think it's worth noting that this thread doesn't have to specifically be about Noah. It seems that the main sentiment of the OP was that we need a defensive big and that while a frontline like Hawes/Thompson/Griffin would look great on paper, we may want to reconsider how well it ultimately works basketball-wise.

It's a fair point as far as not only being about Noah.

As far as the Hawes/Griffin/Thompson scenario, it's hard to have any idea except on paper unless we actually draft him.

To be honest, I think we have to address the PG problem first rather than trying to obtain a defensive big IMO.

why not just bring back justin williams as a hustling defensive big?

One player tha comes to mind in the draft is Jarvis Varnado. I watched the guy in their ncaa tourney loss to (i can't remeber) and he was a beast on defense. lead all college basketball with over 6 blocks a game, and he is 6'9". the problem is he is well nder weight, however he should be available with the 31st and would be a good project.

I guess I was saying it is dumb because there could be 100's of threads like this. " We need a Flip Murray", "We need a J.R. Smith", "We need a Zaza Pachulia", etc. I just think the name and content is a bad idea for a thread. A better kind of thread is "what kind of player do the kings need", or "What hustle players are available in the upcoming draft".
