Kings should hire Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as head coach

1. That's the only way he'd come here

2. Kareem's the perfect coach for Hawes and Thompson..

3. You guys arent contending for the next couple's years ..So I cant think of one possible reason not to hire Jabbar.


I wish the warriors would hire him to take over for that ODB Nelson.

Yeah but does Kareem have what it takes to be an actual head coach? I always thought he may be a tad bit too reserved for that kind of role.

So maybe this coaching search won't last too long after all! hehehe.

I knew this was coming, but, why does it not do anything for me?

It's a bit odd that they moved the interview up, since, it was said by the Kings themselves they wanted to start the interview process after Petrie returned from his second trip to Europe.

I guess all of the rumors out of Philly forced their hand to get the first interview in.

Oh well - guess I'll start shaking my purple pom pom's for a career .500 coach.

At least this way we don't have to hear anymore about how the Maloofs stuffed another coach up Petries butt. This time if it bombs we can all sandbag Petrie!

Yeah, we all knew he was getting interviewed, but as has already been said, Im not very excited. I was honestly excited to see the Pitino news, and I know Boston was a disaster, but I am up for a "name" coach if we are going to retread. Besides, it could be fun to have Cisco and Pitino reunited and that way he can hire back Theus to be an assistant. haha....then his son leaves Florida and joins the staff....Petrie, Pete, Pitino and Pitino! Sounds like a sitcom! Anyways, I digress because Eddie Jordan does nothing for me.

I like it. I think Eddie Jordan's the best coach for OUR job that's available. Avery's a HACK. JVG is annoying and would cost too much and Mike Fratello is a control freak that will not work out in this league anymore. Doug Collins would be interesting, but unlikely, though.

Pitino would have been interesting but would've wanted to be the GM also. I agree with Smills Jordan is the best fit. He has coached in the toughest conference the last 3 years the East and nobody enough talent Lebron in the East except the Celts (sounds like a GM problem). Jordan coached here before we got Vlade, CWebb, and Peja and was only let go because Adelman was better at the time. I think he is the best fit.

I forgot to mention my wife saw a guy at the gym (Cal-Fit in Natomas) that looked dead on Clyde Drexler. Coaching interviews could be going on now? This was like 10 days ago though.

How about Doug Christie's wife as the next kings head coach? She'd scare the living sh*t out of the players..

This board isn't plagued with the redundant trade threads, dumb player comparisons, and other general nonsense some other boards have to deal with, and that's thanks to KIE, ICMTM, and mitch all running a tight ship around here.

So, in an attempt to get this back on topic...

It's no surprise that they are bringing Jordan. And with the rumors of Philly being interested, it's not surprising that they would move up their time line, especially if there is serious interest in him. They don't want to miss the opportunity...plus they also don't want to keep him hanging.

I've said this before, I will be OK with Jordan if he's the guy the team ends up with. He's not necessarily the guy I would love to have (I'm not even sure who that guy is right now to be honest), but I wouldn't be upset if he ends up getting hired.

I feel pretty much the same way KIE. I just don't know if Jordan is the guy that can fully right the ship. I have outwardly displayed an interest in Avery Johnson, but I'm not sure if he's the guy either. There just aren't any great coaches out there.

You see, after awhile you will begin to realize NO coach will do. You know why? Because the problem lies with the team, not the coach. This team isn't at the point where you even have a "right" coach yet. The only positive with Jordan is he at least knows the system Petrie clearly wants to get back to.

EJ has head coaching experience in the association. He can work with Petrie. EJ even has some flair that the Maloof's can like. These are all positives that cannot be said of the other coaching candidates out there. There is even a good chance that Coachie fits in on EJ's staff which is a huge plus as it adds at least some continuity for the Kings young squad.

I also figure Petrie wants to sit down and see what EJ thinks of the current Kings roster, this draft class and the available free agents.

I would be OK if the KIngs hire EJ after the interview and not drag this thing out.

I like Rick Adelman personally...just saying.

There isn't an obvious choice out there to coach the team because we don't know what the team is going to look like. I can assure you that Petrie is going to get guys in here (players and coaches) that are used to playing his style of basketball. Jordan, who runs a Princeton, seems like an obvious choice.

I don't think Jordan was ever given a great baseketball team to coach, so I can't sit there and say I won't get excited for a career .500 coach like someone else did. I can say though that Washington was an entertaining team to watch.
