Petrie out scouting Rubio in the next couple days.....

Post#1 » by JSrose115 » Thu May 14, 2009 12:52 am

Geoff (Petrie) is going to go to Europe (Spain) to see (Ricky) Rubio play in the next couple of days (on Thursday)," Maloof said by phone.

I would love to have Rubio on this team but I dunno if he's as much of a sure thing as Griffin is. Then again, picking Rubio first over Griffin could turn out like Rose over Beasley did for Chicago. I dunno. Hopefully we'll get the #1 pick and be able to actually make that choice.

The difference is that Rose and Beasley were pretty much equals in the debate last year. This year Griffin is miles ahead of anyone.

I'd just like to get that #1 pick so Petrie can make that selection. Whatever it may be.

In reality, only six more days until we finally can start officially debating over who the Kings should pick at #4....Hooray

you really think that?
I think: Rose>Griffin>>>>>>>>>Beasley>>Rubio
Rose and Griffin are complete opposites but I think Rose overall will turn out a superstar

I wasn't making a comparison of ALL 4 players, rather a comparison between the two pairs at their respective positions..

Not true. Rubio got meaningful playing time in the olympics against CP3, Kidd, and DWill. Griffin did all his damage vs 6'7'' college big man.

You are basing your entire evaluation of Rubio on what few olympic games you saw? By the way Dwight Howard did his damage against even smaller high school kids than 6'7". So did garnett and amare.

No I'm basing my evaluation of Rubio on the fact that he was GOOD ENOUGH hold his own against CP3/Kidd/DWill and that he was a significant contributor on 1 of the best olympic teams in the world. If he wasn't good enough in the first place he never even gets on the team!

I'm not saying I don't like Griffin because I do, but to run down Rubio just to prop up Griffin is ridiculous.

He held his own, but its not like he was throwing up 30 a night. He averaged like 2/2/2 in his euroleague. He will be really good someday, but he is not even to beno level yet. Griffin is the man in this draft, and Rubio is a consolation prize I would love to take 2nd.

PS you are putting way too much nonsense weight on that olympics. But it is understandable to be excited about him. No need to make griffin out to be a zero though. He is still the man period. Griffin will lead all rookies in points and rebounds next year, as well as being a top 3 in blocks. -Mark my words.

CP3, Kidd, and DWill all had to adjust to different rules and a different style of game. Rubio didn't. FIBA is as slow as baseball when compared to the NBA.

I never said Griffin isn't the man. But to say Rubio isn't even Beno level yet is wrong. He would start over Beno as soon as he walks in those doors. Beno blows.

To be fair, he had that wrist injury after the Gold Medal round against the USA. He had undergo a wrist arthroscopy. But regardless, Rubio is arguably the most skilled 18/19 yr old in the World.

I totally agree that he is the most talented young player under 18/19 year old in the world, but that does not mean he is ready to produce at the NBA level. He will be great, but don't expect an immediate Derick Rose type production his 1st season.

The only reason I would take Rubio over Griffin is Griffin the difference between JT/Hawes is only a hair better than Griffin/Hawes. Basically if Griffin is so dominant he will just take points and rebounds away from Hawes but their total production as a pair will still be similar to JT/Hawes? Does that make sense?

But the difference between a 20/10 guy like Rubio over Beno a 12/5 guy is so large it is silly.

And if we don't get Griffin, the more I think about it also, I think trading Kenny Thomas for a guy like Chandler would be a great gamble. For a 3 or 4 years of success off the bench bringing what we are missing a shot blocking threat is worth the gamble and his defensive leadership will rub off on JT and Hawes also.

If you think Griffin can gaurd Lebron by all means draft him or JT at the 3 can hang with the big SFs in the league. Can Griffin play the 3 if he only 6-9? That would be a large lineup. Could Griffin play the 3? Basically Hawes has a SF game any way so really they would not step on each others toes? They are all pretty good jump shooters. I guess with this scenario I could take Griffin since we all know the titles go through Lebron, Portland or Lakers in the future.

I don't know there are so many possibilities.

Simple
Hawes = SF because he can shoot
Griffin = SF beause he is short
Thompson = SF because he is fast
