Rubio, still available at #4?

Post#1 » by Bac2Basics » Wed May 20, 2009 4:49 am

Ok, so we didn't get the number 1 pick......but this may not be all bad.

We lose out on Griffin, who by basically every account is the top pick in this years draft and is all but a given to be a Clipper shortly.

By most accounts, Rubio was most everyone's 2nd option and the best PG available in the draft, however both teams at #2 & #3 (Memphis & Oklahoma City) have good young PG's that they seem to be happy with in Conley & Westbrook.

That being said, what are the odds that Rubio may fall to the Kings at #4?
Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed.

I just can't see it happening.

Conley simply hasn't proven enough in Memphis for the Grizz to pass up on Rubio. And, Westrbook is more of a shooting guard anyways so putting him next to Rubio in the backcourt would certainly be within the realm of possibility for Oklahoma City.

Even so, I don't see him getting past the Grizzlies at number 2. He is the second best player in this draft and if they were set on someone else like Thabeet, it would be more likely that they would trade the pick. But, at the end of the day, I see Rubio playing with Marc Gasol and Griffin sharing a front court with Marcus Camby and Zach Randolph. Ew.

Almost nil. It really comes down to how Memphis and OKC value the following 3 players (as well as their 2 current PGs: Conley & Westbrook):

Thabeet
Rubio
Harden

If the rumors are true and Memphis is truly high on Thabeet then maybe they do pass on Rubio and take him. That leaves it up to OKC to believe that a Westbrook/Harden backcourt would work better than a Rubio/Westbrook once.

I guess it's possible in theory since Westbrook & Rubio are such bad shooters and putting them together would make things much tougher on the OKC frontline but I just don't think they pass on Rubio's talent.

If we want Rubio we're going to have to move up to get him.

Didn't he said that he is going to declare for the draft if he is ultimately drafted into the top 3 positions, right?

Not gonna happen. The grizz are stacked.

Rubio
Mayo
Gay
(trade Conley for PF?)/Arthur
Gasol

that's scary.

Kings better take Evans. i think he has the highest ceiling.

^False. Jennings is absolutely terrible and is amazingly overrated. Best case scenario: a poor, poor man's marbury with the same attitude.

The Clippers, according to insiders that spoke with the Oakland Tribune, are enamored with Ricky Rubio and could conceivably select him instead of Blake Griffin with the number one overall pick.

If such a scenario occurs, the Clippers will look to deal Baron Davis.

For now, the Clippers look like they will lean towards the obvious selection.

"I think five years from now, Blake Griffin will be hitting his stride in the NBA, and he will be an impact player wherever he is," Clippers president Andy Roeser told AP. "He is an athletic player. He can do all sorts of things and has a ton of talent, and I think any team will be happy to have him."

GRIZZ COULD BE REALLY STACKED!

I could see Rubio available at 3. The thing is that the Thunder have little need for him. Harden is a much better fit for the team. Throw in the 23rd pick and we could make a deal. Lets make a deal.

The only way he falls out of the top two is if someone becomes completely enamored with Thabeet's athleticism and size combination in Memphis. Even then, he won't get past three. The Grizz aren't sold on Conley (will have suitors for him otherwise) and the Thunder can move Westbrook to the off guard.

You guys have a lot of talent offensively along the perimeter. Someone like Jennings who has the athleticism, handle, and instincts to drive to the hoop could be really beneficial for Sacramento, especially if he can be a solid decision make on drive and dishes, because at any time you could have three or four guys on the three point line waiting for a pass that can make a three or even a mid-range jumper. Rubio's still ideal, but Jennings isn't a bad fit. You'll have four players (Jennings, Martin, Hawes, Thompson) to build around for the future and a series of relatively young role players already in place (Udrih, McCants, Garcia, Nocioni), so I'd be optimistic that Jennings is the key that could get that offense going.

And I don't think a trade is happening either. Its pretty much time to accept the fact that RR and Griffin will not be Kings next year.

I haven't read one bad thing about his attitude over in Italy and in fact everything I've read about him FROM PEOPLE COVERING HIM has been positive. One thing I read said he was trying too hard to become the guy who is a pass 1st PG to a fault.

Article DX.com wrote:Gone is the brash, arrogant teenager with the Kid ’N Play style flat-top who dominated the ball in absolute fashion and looked first and foremost for his own shot, his stats and the ultimate high-light play. In his place is a much more mature, respectful young man, always cheering on his teammates, showing great body language and painstakingly trying to do what his coaches ask of him, almost to a fault at times.

In the second quarter, Jennings comes up with a steal and has a three on two transition opportunity. Not seeing the angle he was looking for, he pulls the ball out, waits for his teammates to run down the floor and calls a play, to the shock of everyone in attendance who had watched him play in America. “The Brandon Jennings of old would have never passed up that opportunity” the Director of Player Personnel sitting next to us points out while nodding his head. “Gotta limit those turnovers” Jennings explains to us afterwards. “My job is to be a pass-first point guard.”

Have the on the court stats been impressive? NO! Did I expect them to be? Not really. I think Jennings said it best that if he had it to do all over again he would have went to a smaller club in Europe. All I'm saying is with a guy who's gone half way around the world to improve his game and has matured by every account I've read I don't see the Jennings attitude bashing true. Of course this is one play, but at the same time I can get you other clips stating positives. If you are going to hate bring facts and real logic. It's looking like Jennings is the BPA at 4 IMO.

Don't waste your time, it's time to debate Brandon Jennings vs Jordan Hill vs James Harden and I think Jennings is best for Sac-Town.

I'd love to see Rubio somehow get to us, and i think there is a chance... but I'm putting all my hope in Jennings and Evans now.

After tonight, I have just come to realize that nothing I want will ever happen to/for this franchise. So, now I leave what comes of this offseason up to Geoff and just pray that I don't have to live through what happened tonight any time again in the near future. That said, I can already see next year's draft lottery in my mind and it looks awfully familiar.

There's no chance. This is ridiculous. We'll have to trade up, or we won't get him.

Highest ceiling is probably Demar Derozan, and I could see the Kings take him at 4.
