Jonny Flynn

Post#1 » by boffacheerios » Wed May 27, 2009 5:20 am

Since it seems most other kings forum sites have a thread up on him (due to Gavins latest comment saying "he's the best point guard in the draft, even above rubio") Just wanted to see what you guys thought. with 4? trade down? trade up?(with 23, 31) I think a good option could be trade the 23, 31 and kenny thomas to New York for the 8 pick and maybe the bloated contract of Larry Hughes? Anyway just wanted to get some chat going.

Yea, I read on a other message board, that he said after the kings didn't get the top 2 picks at c-webbs restaurant, that Rubio wasn't the best PG in the draft Flynn was.

Its funny, I talked to Dante Green. I was talking to him about his show and then I asked him who he liked at number 4.

Guess who he said? Johnny Flynn. He said that they have to take a pg. I told him I thought that at 4 its a "little" bit of a stretch and then just maybe he can be had at 23.

I thought it was funny considering their playing days together.

In all seriousness though, its definitely funny how he thinks they need a new pg, he knows his basketball lol

I like Flynn, this is just a weird draft altogether. I could see so many guys drafted late ending up better than 90% of the players taken way higher. Especially when it comes to PG. I guess one good thing about dropping to 4 is that this is easily the deepest PG draft I've ever seen and that's obviously somewhat of a need still.

Flynn is not falling to #23. He has tons of heart and would brig clutchness like CP3 who is the same size. I will be happy with any of the PGs who have enough confidence to lead better than Beno no matter the size. Whomever Petrie can get at 4 I will be happy even if he reaches.

I wouldn't mind Flynn at #4 if we couldn't get Rubio, and if Rubio is off the board what do you guys think of drafting Thabeet if he's there and trading our #23 and 31 picks to move up and get Flynn:

PG: Johnny Flynn, Beno Udrith
SG: Kevin Martin, Francisco Garcia
SF: Andreas Nocioni, Donte Greene
PF: Jason Thompson, FA, Hasheem Thabeet
C: Spencer Hawes, Hasheem Thabeet

Would you guys do this trade for this team?

I like the idea of a Flynn/Clarke duo more than Thabeet. He just strikes me as an EXPENSIVE(in burning an early lot pick cost) luxury that I don't think we really need all that much.

PG: Flynn/ Udrith
SG: Martin/ Garcia
SF: Nocioni/ Clark
PF: Thompson/ Greene
C: Hawes/ FA

I could see Flynn/ Clark draft if things fell right. One thing with Donte Greene that I always wonder, I know it sounds dumb but what if we put him in at guard sometimes to go with Martin at point and him at the 2 in certain situations.

We would grossly overpay for Flynn at 4. Also, Holliday is not near a #4 selection either. Trade back or forward, #4 spot= overpay.

The thing is, anyone other than Thabeet/Harden/Rubio is a huge reach at #4

^You make a good point, so we should trade down to someone who wants one of those three guys. Even if we just dump a contract or pick up a future first, I would be better than just reaching for flynn or holiday.

As for my opinion on Flynn, I don't have one. I haven't seen enough of the guy to have one. From scouting reports, he's quick and athletic, sort of like a rondo type, but I personally like holiday better from the scouting reports, but I'm baised cause I have seen a lot more of holiday than flynn.

I'm perfectly okay taking FLynn at #4 if needs be. Would I prefer to move down and get him, sure. But like Westbrook last year, I don't know if that would be entirely possible.

I look at Jonny Flynn as a rich man's TJ Ford(also a mid lottery pick in a solid draft). He has some B-Jax in him, some Nate Robinson as well.

Flynn strengths:
LEADERSHIP
Ability to run an offense
Heart
Handles
Quickness
Athleticism
Decent Shooter
Scrappy
He's a Winner

Flynn Weaknesses
Strength
Height(likely sub 6 foot guy)
decent shot(could get much better a la B-Jax)
defensive liability vs. bigger/stronger guards

I mean there is far more to LIKE about Jonny Flynn than to dislike. He's just a winner.

Agreed, I wouldn't mind seeing him in a kings uni next year at all.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

IF the rubio is off the board at 4 which is to be expected then petrie should try to trade down around 8-15 where flynne will be available at. If we could get an expiring for 2010, young talent, or another draft pick along with flynne it would be a succesful draft. No need to draft flynne at 4 if we can trade down.

Saving for 2010 seems kind of like a bad idea. When teams will have money to spend player salaries will go up, OR players will be offered more money than they are worth.

Agreed, I think NOW is the time to spend on a FA if you're going to pursue a FA. With the economy depressed, the chances of getting a good value signing increases IMO.

Return to Sacramento Kings
