Donte Greene probably isn't considered an on-court "hero." That's okay, because this Memorial Day, the Twitter-happy Sacramento Kings forward was a straight-up stud, rescuing a young lady from a potentially fatal boating situation.

Apparently, Donte and a few of his friends ventured to American River and, while wrapping up their holiday boating activities, a woman, who was untying the ladder on her boat, fell off the back when the boat was started without her knowing. Donte, realizing she couldn't swim, dove right in and saved her life.

"So, I didn't know, I thought she could swim, she couldn't swim, I think I'm a swimmer, I was a lifeguard coming up in high school. So, I guess I just reacted and just jumped in, someone threw her a life preserver and I pulled her in to a boat (someone else's) - almost got run over by one..."
It's not so crazy that this situation unfolded -- it happens a lot on Memorial Day, although I would caution most boat owners to learn the art of swimming first -- insomuch as it is just flat out awesome that Green didn't hesitate, dove right in the water and saved the woman from either drowning or a blunt-force-trauma to the head.

And, of course, he Tweeted about it. But don't let that fool you into thinking this was anything remotely resembling hubris: as he said later in an interview (the same one from above), it was "just instinct." And, man, I'll tell you what; the humility and the bravery that Green flashed throughout this whole process is a prime example of actions by athletes that needs more attention in this world filled with Brett Favre selfish media hogs.

Sad that after all the repetitive stories you hear from the media I can only find blogs reporting this. If it was a star I bet it would be all over ESPN. Anyway, way to go for Donte.

Yeah, I remember reading this earlier today. But anyways, what a great thing Donte did! It's been a while to have a personality like a Donte Greene on roster i.e. Donte Greene show

I really think if he can get minutes he could have a kevin martin type sophomore season
where people will start knowing him.

Well, he has to be more diverse with the ball next year if the is expecting a vast improvement i.e. Martin's sophomore year.

When Donte has the ball, the only thing he has in his mind is jumpshot. He is a good shooter in college but he has to be more productive with the ball though. At times, he could have drive to the basket or play a mid range game instead. I like his defensive potential due to his length and size.

OH I agree with you on his jumpshot, but I think with such little playing time he kinda felt like he needed to try those to get any chance, I think they would be less of an issue if he had a role with the team/some good coaching.

Yes and no. Remember the Magic have hit 3 game winner as jumpers from Hedo and Lewis. Donte just has to get lethal with his jumpshot and his defense. He is a 3 in our offense and that is ok since he and Hawes have great jumpers and JT has get to the basket. Hawes and Greene need to improve getting to the basket some to balance their game but they will always be jumpshooters and they will come around.

It is great to see we have a responsible guy in Donte.
