Dre Miller?

Could he be the PG we need? I havent heard anything about him coming here, but I know he stays around the area in the offseason. Is he the floor general we've been lacking? He isn't really a Petrie type of PG, how do you feel he fits in with the team? Maybe a 3 year deal until the PG we draft is ready to take over.

It's worth a thought. I feel like he would definitely make the team significantly better right now, but other than that (which is admittedly a pretty important thing), it just doesn't make a ton of sense. Beno is our stopgap right now, and he hasn't been a great one so far, but I just don't know if I could justify spending too much money on two stop gaps.

I think that, while he would definitely help give the offense some cohesion, I'd ultimately rather save the money, pick up a young PG in some way through the draft or a draft-related trade, and let Beno maybe try to pull his value out of the dumpster next year.

I don't think we can think about FA's like Andre Miller, Hedo, Marvin, etc. until we have a plan to get rid of Beno, Garcia, Nocioni.

We just have waaaaaaaaay too many mediocre players making a decent sum of money. 1 or 2 and it's fine, but lately we've been handicapped like no other simply because we have so many of them

What's your problem with Garcia. He just signed a pretty reasonable extension for us.

I don't have a problem with Garcia. I have a problem with Garcia + Nocioni + Beno + (Marvin)

Garcia to me isn't a starter. He's a 1st-3rd player off the bench (I think most of us agree with that). Even though I feel he's overpaid by 1 mil or so, the money he is making is the going price for a player of his skill level and role for a team. However, the problem is that Nocioni is roughly the same type of player as Garcia while making around the same range of money. Both players are somewhat worth their contracts as a leader of the bench reserves, its simply too much to have both at the same time.

Similar to before, Shareef + Kenny, and then Shareef + Kenny + Moore, we have too many middle level talent, and even if they are worth their respective contracts, having so many of them becomes detrimental to a team.

4 Francisco Garcias is not better than 1 Garcia + 1 Carmelo

I feel like signing miller would take away from our young pg that we better draft. I rather have beno and our pg split time then have miller take up most the mins.

We will get rid of one of the SFs in the offseaon. It will be Noc probably. Garcia can hit a clutch shot or 2 and Noc is more of a hustle/energy guy. Considering Natt questionable personnel calls making I doubt Petrie has given up yet on Donte Greene playing the 3 like Natt. Especially if we hire Westphal who runs a fast paced offense and was the architect of Dallas current and Phoenix team with Kevin Johnson. Not to mention watching Orlando with Hedo/Lewis/Howard give us hope that the loaded 3/4/5 can be competitive with the Lebron and LA.

Just not the right guy, we need someone that can shoot. Oh yeah, and isn't like 47 years old.

If he's a truly viable option I don't want to hear anything about age when Marion or Odom is brought up by me!!! Hahaha.

No thanks. I would only be interested in Miller if we moved Beno. Even then, I want us to pick a PG and even if he doesn't start right away (which he should), he definately should NOT be the 3rd PG off the bench (behind Miller/Beno).

Why would we need a guy that can shoot? Jason has a reliable mid-range shot. Spencer isn't as consistent, but he has range out to 3. Cisco and Noc are both very good from 3. Kevin Martin is Kevin Martin. It's not like this team should have problems spreading the floor with even competent coaching.

Age is a factor, and the main reason I would ultimately pass. But it's less of a factor than it is with Odom, who relies on superior mobility and really isn't even a terrific fit (yes I know, he's a good passer. It takes more than that). Not to mention that, in your words he would probably "steal" minutes away from Jason. And even bringing up Marion seems ridiculous to me. The dude is clearly already declining because of his age. His game is very heavily reliant on his athleticism, and his athleticism is fading.

In the offensive style that this team will most likely play the PG is going to have to be able to be a threat from outside since Martin/Hawes/Thompson/etc. will probably handle the ball and make plays more than they have in the past. Beno is not a great shooter but is better than Miller and anything worse than him just won't work moving forward.

There are many adjustments you can make to the style. It doesn't have to be exactly like it was in early 2000s.

I don't think Andre Miller would be our first choice to bring in as a PG, but I think that he's someone that we shouldn't be so quick to rule out.

Didn't say it did, but Miller is easily one of the worst outside threats at PG that there is. He is very good with the ball in his hands but he would be worthless to us otherwise.

Yes. Nobody else that we have is currently good with the ball in their hands. Thus, for improving right now (which is what I was talking about, but again, I would probably be against signing him given the team's situation in total) he would be a big help. I agree that he's a very poor threat from 3. I disagree that that would really be a hindrance to the team as its currently assembled.

We obviously have to draft a point guard at some point in the draft. Signing Miller might not be a bad idea on top of that. He would be a good influence on our young PG and bring some stability to the position.

I hope everyone realizes, that we most likely will only be able to sign ONE above MLE free agent for the next half decade or so.

IMO Andre Miller isn't worth giving up on all other FA's in the next few years to come.

Players are movable, stuff happens, and 3 years is not "half a decade". Keep your pants on.

Of course players are moveable, but realistically Beno will be near impossible to move. (We couldn't move Kenny). It depends if we move Nocioni/Garcia.

And it will be "half a decade."

In '11 we will have to resign Hawes.
'12 Thompson/Donte
'13 #4
and so forth.

The only way we have cap space, is if Hawes/Thompson/#4 all fail and don't deserve contracts around 9-10 mil.
