Trade Ideas for Noc', Udrih and the #4

Post#1 » by ecuhus1981 » Sun May 31, 2009 2:16 pm

Hey, Nets/Mavs fan here. I thought about a couple of trade scenarios, and I wanted to see what feedback I could get from them.

OK, Kings fans, assuming that Rubio does not fall to you at #4 (it's a slight possibility, but don't pin your hopes on it), you have a tough decision to make. Do you reach for a PG (Jrue, Jennings, Curry) because of need, draft the best player available, or trade? I would say that option #3 makes the best use of your assets, and would return the best fit. In the process, you move two players on long-term deals that aren't in your long-term plans.

Here are two possibilities I think the Kings should pursue on draft night. Let me know which one you would prefer, and why. For the package of Beno/Noc'/#4...:

OPTION #1 - Charlotte (no, DJ is not available)
Wallace/Felton S&T

OPTION #2 - Toronto
Calderon/Kapono/#9

i dont think both trades are favorable with the kings.. wallace has a much more expensive contract with nocioni...and the bobcat picks is a no go.. also id love wallace but hes a little injury prone for my taste... the raptor trade on the other hand.. not unless bargnani is involved i wouldnt consider that.. there is no point in trading down if you are drafting a point guard.. get the best IMO.

i would want to trade Beno, Greene, kenny thomas 31st for wizards haywood songalia and 5th which seems possible since they need a back up point for arenas.. and would want to comepte now

I agree with aenadin about the Charlotte trade.

If Tor is desperate to move up we could swing that trade. Calderon and Kapono have 2 years less than Udrih/Noc so we would take capspace for lesser players. Our 3 point shooting was dismal last year so Kapono would be solid, Calderon could come off the bench.

I could see Petrie package Beno with a pick to move down or with Thomas' expiring but Noc has enough value to trade by himself. I do not see any trades involving Greene.

The Kings are not going to package the 4th pick with Noc and/or Udrih just for the sake of moving them. Both are decent role players and Udrih is the only one who IMO is overpaid. A package of the 3 has to return potential star talent that provides long-term benefit to the Kings. Both ideas fail at that.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

I wouldn't do the Charlotte deal. Felton is solid but I wouldn't want him as the Kings long term PG. He cant shoot and is too inconsistent. I dont like Wallace here either, ideally the wing next to Kmart should be someone who can create their own offense. Wallace is average here but I'd rather the Kings go a different direction.

I like the Toronto deal and have posted it in the trade board in the past. Adding a shooter of Calderon's quality and a high basketball IQ PG who doesn't turn it over is perfect for this team. Clark should be available at 9, he's extremely raw and a high risk/high reward prospect but I like the mismatches he creates. Greene takes Noc's role as the backup combo forward off the bench. He doesn't have as much toughness as Noc but as long as he spaces the floor with his 3 and plays with high energy he should be fine.

Hawes
Thompson/Greene/Thomas
Clark(9)/Garcia/Kapono
Martin/Garcia
Calderon/Lawson(23)

Actually the more I think about it, the Toronto deal is not to bad.

We get rid of Beno, get Calderon and can still draft Clark, possible DeRozan if he drops down to us.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

I'm not a big fan of trading down from #4 primarily to move Beno and/or Noc.

I don't like either of them. I'd be much happier and more comfortable having Geoff pick his favorite guy at #4.

What? No. #4/Thomas/Noci could get us a potential star (maybe Amare), but there's no way we could trade #4/Beno/Noci and expect to get a very good player. Having said that...

Toronto would NEVER do the 2nd deal. Beno/Noci <<< Calderon/Kapono. But if they did, I would be all over that trade...how could any Kings fan NOT be for it? Calderon is MUCH better than Beno and Kapono's contract is MUCH better than Noci's (a difference of about 7-8 million, I believe). And we get all of this and only have to move down 5 spots...and could still get a player like Clark (although the only reason I would be against him is because I would still like to see what Greene could do)

Hawes
Thompson
Clark/Greene
Martin
Calderon

The Charlotte deal is closer than the Toronto one but they both kind of blow.

If I had a gun to my head and HAD to choose 1 I'd take the Toronto deal. It's only moving down 5 slots and we could probably get the guy we REALLY want there still(Flynn). We shed a year of of Noc's deal, but we add extra salary, but talent too from Beno to Calderon.

I like the status quo better, but Toronto's deal is slightly better than Charlotte's. The only asset that I REALLY like from the Bobcats is Augustin.

I doubt we could still get Flynn there. His stock is going to rise like crazy as the draft gets closer and I could easily see the Knicks taking him. He's a NY guy already(Syracuse), quick and a great passer for the Mike D offense. I'd rather just keep Noc and the #4 and take Flynn.

I hate both deals. I don't like Felton and Wallace is too injury prone. Calderon is a crappy defender and with Martin we would be an awful defensive team. Noc is a good player anyway, he's great firepower+defense off the bench and he is a capable starter too(I prefer he starts over Garcia).

i would try to trade noc to the celtics again. coz thats what they obviously need a tough backup SF/PF.
Sac trade Noc and '10 2nd round pick to Celtics
Celtics trade Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine, JR Giddens and '10 1st round pick to kings

then trade Udrih #4 and #23 to the Grizz for #2 and Marko Jaric.

then somehow sign Hedo to $10mill per or sign and trade for him using K.Thomas, D.Green and '10 1st pick via the celtics

And the problem with dumping bad salaries, still getting the same player in the draft 5 picks later, and paying less for them is what exactly?

Tyreke Evans or johnny Flynn are the same players whether you drafted them 4 or 9. The difference is extra assets or dumping bad salaries.

BTW, both are overpaid to long term contracts they will never live up to. Nocioni is the best he will be right now, and will only go down talent wise as the contract goes on. Beno is a bad/long contract as well, but has only one direction to go.

PS "decent role players" don't deserve long contracts. Thats why it is so costly to dump them on other teams.

1ST off the 2 trades that were even mentioned in this post would be a complete disaster & stupid by the KINGS neither deal as a whole would be an upgrade !

IF we were to do a deal involving BENO or NOC + a pick it better be our 23rd + either of those 2 but only with a team in wich we could keep our 4th and get a higher 1st round pick between the 7th & 12th at the lowest ! I doubt however that happens though

If we keep the pick at # 4 expect the KINGS TO DRAFT 1 of the 3

RUBIO , HOLLIDAY , or JENNINGS

the way i see it we either keep the 4 pick or trade up to the 2 pick in hoping MEMPHIS believes THABETT will still be available at the 4 pick ...
