Slow Form RealGM Mock Draft (Kings Pick 2)

Post#1 » by dice » Fri Jun 12, 2009 3:43 pm

Quite a long strange trip it's been. Here's how things have played out so far:

1. Clippers - Blake Griffin PF, 20, Oklahoma City, OK
2. Grizzlies - Ricky Rubio PG, 18, Barcelona, Spain
3. Thunder - Hasheem Thabeet C, 22, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
4. Kings - James Harden SG, 19, Los Angeles, CA
5. Wizards - Tyreke Evans G, 19, Chester, PA
6. Wolves - Demar DeRozan G/F, 19, Compton, CA
7. Warriors - Jrue Holiday G, 19, Chatsworth, CA
8. Knicks - Jordan Hill PF, 21, Atlanta, GA
9. Raptors - Brandon Jennings PG, 19, Los Angeles, CA
10. Bucks - DeJuan Blair PF, 20, Pittsburgh, PA
11. Nets - James Johnson PF, 22, Cheyenne, WY
12. Bobcats - Terrence Williams SG, 21, Seattle, WA
13. Pacers - Stephen Curry G, 21, Charlotte, NC
14. Suns - Earl Clark F, 21, Plainfield, NJ

END LOTTERY (pretty decent bet that these are the 14 players actually taken if you ask me)

15. Pistons - Austin Daye F, 21, Irvine, CA
16. Bulls - Jonny Flynn PG, 20, Niagara Falls, NY
17. Sixers - Ty Lawson PG, 21, Clinton, MD
18. Wolves - Gerald Henderson SG, 21, Caldwell, NJ
19. Hawks - Eric Maynor PG, 22, Fayetteville, NC
20. Jazz - Jeff Teague PG, 21, Indianapolis, IN
21. Hornets - Darren Collison PG, 21, Rancho Cucamonga, CA
22. Mavericks - Marcus Thornton SG, 22, Baton Rouge, LA

Same deal as before. I'll wait for a frontrunner to emerge before moving to the next team board. Support/ridicule of choices encouraged.

And with the #23 pick Sacramento takes...?

Hmm, I'd say probably James Johnson, but I could see BJ Mullens in the mix as well. Definintely NOT Budinger. Casspi I see as a prospect at #31 as he's likely not coming over for a year.

So I'd say James Johnson is BPA and could fit a nice role with the Kings at the 3/4 long term.

JAMES JOHNSON is my choice at #23. Then Look at Casspi or probably a PG at #31(Mills/Beaubois/Douglas/Llull/etc).

James Johnson was already "taken". I wouldnt mind BJ Mullens. and i doubt Casspi will still be availabe at 31.

Since we are going with a PG (not Harden unfortnunately) we need a SF who can lock down people like Hedo when he was a rook. Petrie will be lookling for one of those type guys not an offensive SF. Noc can defend big SF in the paint but not off the dribble. Greene is another offensive SF, with and offensive PG and KMart we need one defensive guy (ala Doug Christie or early Artest or Aziza) which is why we don't want a Budinger (i don't kniow that Johnson is that ype a guy either).

I doubt they go after Mullins I think they will re-sign Cedric Simmons as the shot blocker roleplayer (he is 6-9) and since he didn't play he has no value so will be super cheap so there'e really no reason to pick a big. His ceiling is Mikki Moore only a role player but the SF need is higher plus maybe a clutch PG bench role player like the guy from Villanova.

Give me Patrick Mills. At least we have to use our #23 for a PG if we selected Harden with our #4.

Oh I missed JJ going at 11(THat's EARLY)..

Well I'll change my vote to Tyler Hansbrough as he'd help fill out our frontcourt and give us a high energy big off the bench. At 23 I think you need to take the 'sure-thing' and get a solid role-player out of the pick as I don't see any "SWING FOR THE FENCES" type left on the board.

As far as PG's go, I'm liking Toney Douglas a slightly better than Patty Mills, and I think one of them will be there at #31.

Damion James! He can play both F spots and is a tremendous rebounder, we need some help there and the fact that he can play mulitiple positions is why I think he should be the choice.

In real life it would depend on who is expected to be available in the 2nd round but it sounds like Mills should be there at #31, if not, take him and then James at #31.

For me, it's between Mills, Young, Lawal and Hansbrough. I think Mills definitely has the best potential, but I don't know if he'll realistically reach it. I like Sam Young a lot, but I'd like him a bit more on a team with a really great playmaker. Also the team would've already selected a wing at this point. I don't see any chance Geoff picks Mullens, and I don't think I really want him anyway.

I guess I'd go with Hansbrough, but man, what a crappy situation that would be.

It's between Young and Hansborough for me.

Sam Young it is.

I'd take a chance with Hansbrough, but if not him I would take Lawal and hopefully we can get Mills at 31...

Yeah, I think some fans are overrating their teams needs for a PG in this draft(i.e. BULLS fans) and one of Maynor, Lawson or Teague might fall to us at #23. Also I think guys like Marcus Thornton, Hansbrogh, Young are being undervalued and guys like Blair, Clark and Mills are being OVERVALUED in terms of where they'll actually go.

Clark is not an overvalue. Hes a top ten talent in my eyes. With the players available, I would go with Hansbrough. We need more bodies down low and Tyler would come in and know his role. Getting a role player at 23 is all that you can really hope for.
Interesting, you have some ideas you would like to bounce off Brian Sabean? That's strange, I have some objects I would like to bounce off Brian Sabean.
