Figured everyone else had a thread like this, what about Jon!?

Seriously though, I was just watching some of the Pistons stuff they're showing on NBA TV and Jon really, really, really reminds me of Dennis Rodman. They rebound in the almost same exact way and play D just about the same way. I really like the addition of Jon Brockman, I think he has the potential to be a very good rebounder/defender.

Obviously he can rebound, and I think he's a lot tougher than say Justin Williams. But, he'll have the same problem JW had, and that's being the target of fouls. From what I saw, his FT% was horrible, and you can't rely on him to score if you pass him the ball...it might be better for him to be trashman type of player (picking up the lose balls and scoring on tip ins).

I think Westphal is going to have to decide whther or not they can sacrifice points for rebounds. Unless, of course, he works on his scoring ability .

I liked the Brockman pick up on draft night and still have the same opinion. What I saw from Summer League is what I saw from him playing for UW. He does not need to be a scoring presence...we have enough fire power without him. He brings the defensive (and most notably rebounding) presence the team needs.

He's a tough man on a team that desperately needed a big man who will slaughter to get that rebound.

I dont buy into this idea. When you have a player on the floor that doesnt need to be guarded especially on the level of Brockman it affects everyone offensively because the team will just leave him and double the Kings scorers. Brockman's offense is so much of a liability it will bring the offense down at least a few notches.

I think Brockman can be a nice rebounding/hustle presence off the bench, but I dont think he'll be any better than Mark Madsen.

He is waaaay more useful than patrick ewing jr. He might not be the most talented guy out there, but he serves a purpose, and he will be helpful on this young team needing a hardnosed rebounder.

Agreed. A guy can be in a position where he's not a main option offensively, but the other team still has to be in a position where they have to guard him. Otherwise, he'll never have a consistent spot in the league unless he REALLY brings something else to the table. His rebounding is very nice, so that's a start. But I would like to see him develop some kind of offensive game--just to keep the defense honest.

Ben Wallace was pretty successful without having much of an offensive game (when he was with Detroit anyway). I know Brockman ain't no Big Ben, but it can be done and it's also true that we don't need Brockman to be Big Ben anyway. Just defend and grab boards when we call on him to do it, and he'll have a nice career as one of those guys that clean up and does the dirty work.

I think I brought this up when we picked him, Patrick Ewing Jr. was one of the most unproductive players I've ever seen. Jon Brockman played the role of "the man" at Washington and he did pretty good. I think he is actually quite a bit more talented offensively than he's given credit for, at least in the post. BUT! Where I do think he needs to get a mid-range jumper down, with his rebounding and defense he can be a huge asset for us and should get him time on the floor, especially if we are going to go to Martin and Evans a lot. Having a guy that doesn't need the ball to have an impact will be a great fit. If Rodman could play big minutes on more than a few really good teams, I think Brockman can find a way to earn a role. I'm telling you, the similarities in how they play and how they...well...suck at certain parts of the game! ( ) is freaky.

I'll say this once and say it again...If he can hit that "Big Baby jump shot" -- that little 10-15 footer, he'll be in good shape. If he can knock those jumpers down I think he can impact a game just like the way Big Baby did. But he has to WANT to improve and get a lot better on offense as well.

He cant fall in love with everyone saying, "oh Jon's a hustle player.." " he's a rebounding machine..." etc. Because really, all im seeing here are the EXACT comments some of you guys were saying about that Justin Williams bust. Oh he hustles....he had 7 rebs in 5 mins....he's a blocking god..etc. When its all said and done, when thats ALL you can contribute to a squad, you end up 'crying for your supper'.

Say what you wish about Big Ben...at least he drove and took it to the rim alot. Was never afraid really to try a jump shot. Big Ben had a pretty form, ball rotation AND nice arc on his shot -- he just couldnt make them. He never really saught fit to try either because he fell in love with the remarks above, oh he does all the dirty work...he hustles, thats what gets him mins....he doesnt need to score etc.

Could he be our next Scott Pollard? (Well, with less defense but more rebounds form of Pollard). Scott was a pretty damn good backup center for us in the glory days. The Divac/Pollard combo was awesome.

Yeah, and like I said, when you can really make up for it elsewhere, you can find a consistent spot. A prime Wallace was obviously very valuable defensively. I couldn't see Brockman being that successful over all. He seems like he'll be more like a Chuck Hayes/Reggie Evans type. Which is fine--great even for a second round pick.

In summer league he grabbed 8 boards in 26min while Griffin grabbed 12 in 34min. Brockman was very effective as a defender and rebounder and his toughness in practice will rub off on JT and Hawes getting bumped on everyday in practice. You need guys like this on your team.

I am really worried that the May signing will stunt his growth tremendously... I really hope that he's able to add somewhat of an offensive game so he can get his chance to perform on the floor.

Just my opinion but his defense and rebounding should get him on the floor. The thing I'm more worried about is Nocioni stealing minutes at PF. Don't do it Westphal! Just don't do it!!!

Brockman has more game than Chuck Hayes on offense. Leave him undefended inside and he'll score. He just can't pose any perimeter threat. Role guy and good at it. You'll get a quality 10 min.
