Kingless team USA

I was looking at the 40 possible players on ESPN and I noticed that no King, most notably that Martin wasn't a part of the possible squad. It kind of made me sad, because he's going to be in his prime by the time the olympics roll around.
http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/rank?ve ... listId=142I think he would at least be a better player to look at than:
Ariza, Battier, Chandler, Curry, Davis, Hamilton, Marion, Odom, Prince, and Redd.
Any thoughts on this?

That's just waht ESPN thinks...not the actual 40 candidates.
IMO the roster should look like
PG: C. Paul, D. Williams
SG: K. Bryant, D. Wade, B. Roy
SF: C. Anthony, K. Durant, D. Granger
PF: L. James, C. Bosh
C : D. Howard, A. Stoudemire
Now assumng a few guys won't want to play/will be hurt/wants to rest
Alternatives
PG: 1) D. Rose 2) R. Rondo
SG: 1) A. Iguodola 2) Tie K. Martin w/ OJ Mayo
SF: 1) D. Granger 2) J. Green
PF: 1) A. Jefferson 2) L. Aldridge
C : 1) G. Oden 2) A. Horford
I actually think Hawes has a better shot at ever making a roster (including allstar) over Kevin Martin

Actually Kevin wasn't even invited to the mini-camp. No Kings player was.

I almost agree with that last statement, but Spencer just isn't there yet. I would rather have any of those bigs than Amare though. Amare is a good fit, but I would just rather have somebody who gives a s**t. If Oden improves, I'd give him a shot. Otherwise, I'd probably go with Aldridge.
And I also think that if the team can get another Battier-type defender (or I guess, give one of the stars that role), Kevin is a better fit than Iguodola. Iguodola's superior playmaking would be basically useless on the team, and if somebody else is the primary perimeter defender, Kevin just fits in much better with the rest of the guys.

There is still 3 and half years till the olympics. Theres alot of people that havnt even been considered now the will be considered 2 years from now. I wouldnt be suprised that by the time the 2010 world games come theres no kings player on U.S.A. roster. But when 2012 comes I wouldnt be suprised to see either Martin,Hawes,Thompson,or Tyreke at least have a shot at the roster.

I know this was just 40 probable candidates, but just the fact that not 1 of our guys got even their name up there just goes to show how little respect the kings have amongst the nba. And also I knew none of our guys were invited, but I couldn't find the link so I didn't want to state anything without evidence.

Oh well.
I actually thought Martin would be invited automatically. I remember practically everyone raved about Martin last year with the select team. But for some reason, Martin is left off.
Well, at least Martin is using this time to work out. If I can recall, he is doing the exact same famous workout of Kobe Bryant's. (But Martin's workout starts at 6:30am not 6:00am as the original).

If Kobe and Wade both want to return for 2012...where does Martin find a spot? Roy is w/o question a better player and deserves a spot over him.

Agreed. Some here tend to overvalue Martin I think. He's good, but there are plenty of other guys as good and better than Martin who bring a lot more to the table.

Martin might not be on Bryant/Wade or even Roy level, but he provides something most superstars don't, perfect off the ball game (which is really needed given one or 2 superstars will be on the floor all the time), add to that good shooting which has been always a problem for the US teams, it makes him not being a candidate a bit odd.

And when planing a team you don't need the best player at every spot, you need the best group that fits together.

Ya, I really feel like Martin and/or hawes would do very well on team USA. Both guys play their parts, and their flaws can be easily covered up by the athleticism of the superstars around them. They would both act as glue guys very well IMO.

This is all true, but again, if Kobe and Wade both want to play again, you kinda have to let them. Regardless of the team situation, if Kobe and Wade want to be on the team, they are on the team lol.
Now lets just suppose that they are both put on the roster. Since its only 12 players, you can only really afford to have 3 SG's.
How do you justify putting Martin in over Roy? Roy isn't like many other superstar's where he can't play off the ball, and Roy is a good shooter himself. Roy is by far the next best SG option, so you are forced to add Roy to the team as well.
However, if neither Kobe/Wade want to be part of 2012 simply due to age/injuries, then yes, Martin would be an amazing fit and should be part of the olympic squad.

I don't think Martin has a great shot, I just think he probably has a better shot than Spencer. I will also say that yes, the team could have more than 3 SGs. The olympic team isn't built like NBA teams. They usually have fewer bigs. Lebron and Melo will likely play plenty of PF, and Kobe and possibly Roy and/or Wade will play plenty of SF. And like you said, lots of things can happen before then. Wade isn't exactly an iron man, Kobe will be 34 (I think)--so things can change. I'm not saying it's likely, just that it's a possibility.

Kobe will be practically be point forward when the Olympics come, and if you leave for a moment the classification that is already made in the NBA, 3 guards lineups are very common in europe (sometimes 4 guards if you want to pressure the ball), for example lineup of Paul/Martin/Kobe/Lebron/Howard is big enough for any euro team the US will face.
Martin is exactly the type of player US teams rarely had since Reggie Miller, a scorer who uses the ball only to finish/score, I didn't watch Granger a lot but he's the only guy who might close to that.

No player on the Kings is good enough to make the Olympic team IMO.. Martin is good but not better than those on the team already...Unless Redd is still on the team, but he was only on it because of 3pt shooting and he is still better than K-Mart at that.

It's simple it was ESPN's opinion. They only talk about big name players that make big time plays. Not those injury prone players out of no-name schools whose only claim to fame is having the first person making the very first collegiate 3 point field goal. (Western Carolina) Let's see Kevin Martin make it through an ENTIRE year with out getting hurt and be on Sportscenter on a consistent basis making big time plays for the Kings.....oh wait that won't happen.

Hhahah I'm just being honest. Espn doesn't show/like? Kevin Martin.
