Will the real Kings' leader please stand up?

The Kings are a young team still rebuilding. Every team needs a leader, the question for the Kings this season especially is: Who will be the leader? Sure Tyreke Evans will make an impact on the team, but can he lead? In my opinion I don't think so, at least not now. Kevin Martin can put a few good games together, but he hasn't proved to have the ability to stay healthy for an entire season. Jason Thompson is still progressing and might be a couple seasons away from becoming the player that all of us want him to be. Spencer Hawes? For he doesn't strike me, as the type of player that can carry a team on his back and be a clutch player that will make big plays for this team on a nightly basis. The season is still a couple months away and this is just something for the Kings fans to think about.

The only guy who has shown me any hint of leadership capability last season was Cisco. I would assume that he will continue to act as a leader. However the team needs one of the starters to step up and grab that role (I still prefer Cisco as a 6th man role as long as Martin is starting at the 2). I don't know who that leader is going to be, but it will be interesting to watch to see who attempts to emerge as that leader.

I agree with you. Cisco might be able to become some sort of leader for this team. But the only problem is that he doesn't start. We need someone that can lead this team in the clutch situations with the starting 5 on the floor. So...Cisco would be out.

Tyreke reminds me of Wade coming into the league. He doesn't have a big personality much like Wade but he leads with the way he plays.

This might be the worst title of a thread I've ever seen. And Nick did one like "Return of the kings: lord of no rings."

My vote is for Paul Westphal. Thats the difference between Theus/Natt and Westphal. He is a real leader. On the court, I still think Hawes is a little young to be the leader, but will make a great leader soon enough. Right now I really hope to see Martin as the leader that will step up this year.

I'm thinking Hawes will be our 'vocal leader' down the road as he, his body and game all mature.

We have great young talent overall but the bottom line is there is no current KING that is really a leader it would be nice to see one emerge this year !

I think KIE is closest with CISCO who reminds me so much of DOUD CHRISTIE'S stlye of basketball play but even he has not emerged as a leader IMO however he is closest maybe we will finally see HAWES , MARTIN,CISCO or even T.EVANS young rookie become one !

Here is to hoping last time we really had one was between C-WEBB & DIVAC....

so so long ago :( thats said !

Francisco Garcia is probably the closest thing as a leader. He is very vocal on the court, feisty, plays with a passion on both sides on the ball and etc.

Kevin Martin is the leader of the Kings though. At times, his leadership abilities may be called in to play, which is fair, but he does show characteristics of a leader nonetheless.

Spencer Hawes has a swagger in him. I can feel it. Can he be a leader of this team next year? Probably. In the future? Yes.

Jason Thompson has the fire and toughness as a player. Leadership material for next year? I don't know. But one thing for sure, he has a great personality as a player and person.

Tyreke Evans has the qualities of a legitimate star point guard. I would assume he will take a leadership role as early as this upcoming season.

Can Garcia speak english? To have a vocal leader, shouldn't they be able to speak the language as most the team? Tyreke doesn't seem smart enough to be the leader (or a good enough communicator). Martin leads by example and decently vocal, he just needs to stay on the court to do it. I really think this will be Hawes team to lead eventually, but 21 year old centers hardly lead teams. My vote is still Westphal.

Are you serious?

Garcia can speak, communicate and understand English just like other players in this league. He is from the Bronx (NY) haha.

Garcia can speak perfect English.

Martin is way too mentally weak to be the leader of the team. He hardly says a word, can't take over a game, and over the past couple of seasons, he's barely been on the court. He has no swagger as they say. Just because he can score doesn't make him a leader in any shape or form.

Tyreke is a our best bet as of right now. He has got that swagger in my opinion. Hawes possibly as well.

Sorry not a insulting question, just wondering due to him writing exclusively in spanish on his twitter. Really meant no harm by that comment.

Wow. That was very rude. Put me on your ignore list, I couldn't care less. Ignorance? I asked a question and got clarification from people. You had no need to respond after the question had been answered. I have read his twitter and it is in spanish... Is it that bad of a QUESTION to ask if he speaks english? Welcome to my "I don't care if you put me on your ignore list" list.

That's still is no definite indication though.

Well besides that, I think it would have been a given that Garcia can speak English due to countless interviews, publications and etc by the Kings, ESPN, Sac Bee or whatever.

Unfortunately, you (and other "long distanced" Kings fans) are probably limited of watching the Kings due to regional means perhaps? I'm assuming you live in San Diego (your user name and location indicates that) and do not have the luxury to watch the Kings as most people here?

Exactly. Thats why I asked the question. How was I supposed to know if the publications have been translated. I see games often through slingbox, but tend to avoid interviews on there. He is from the Dominacan Republic I believe. The response I receieved from Kings in exile was completely unneccesary. Getting a cheap laugh at the new guys expense is messed up Exile, especially when you attack me like that to look cool.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I have to live in SoCal just last year for college and missed a lot of Kings games (the most since...ever) I can relate to you. It's hard to keep up with the Kings unless you have League Pass or something (I might consider it next year)

Regarding about KIE, he may have a bad day or something? Don't worry about it too much though.
