Not sure that is as simple as you make it sound. With a better rebounding guard (evans) playing beside him, I expect his rebounding numbers to be no where near the 6 you projected. And 5 assists a game is a big number.Thats more than Bibby, Chalmers, Stuckey, Udrih, Conley, Foye, Mo Williams, and many other starting POINT GAURDS put up last season.

Roy or Kobe getting hurt. It's that simple.

PG - Paul, Deron
SG - Kobe, Roy

Reserves that Martin will have to beat out - Billups, Parker, Nash, Ginobilli...

I don't think Kevin's stat will matter one way or another. Two things are going to keep him out of the All Star Game for the forseable future: Kobe Bryant and Brandon Roy. They'll be the mainstays as the West's All Star SG's for a while.

Chris Paul, D-Wil, Billups, Tony Parker = 2 of these guys will be in for sure each of the next few years, the others are the ones he'll have to compete with for a reserve spot, and I don't think the Kings will win enough for him to get the nod.

I think it's a possibility for him to make the team if he scores more than 27 a game without getting injured while a couple of SF's underachieve.

As long as Kobe and Brandon Roy are in the West, Kevin Martin won't be an all start at the SG position.

The all-star selection process isn't an exact science. They pick who's most deserving, not always by who's at what position. Martin is a wing player, so he could be selected as a backup for either SG or SF.

All I'm saying is that with other BETTER players in the West his chances of getting into the All Star game (especially at the SG position his natural/most played position) aren't very good unless a couple people have off years and Kevin Martin becomes a freak of nature.

The team needs to win to consider an all star birth. Period.

And I don't think we will win a lot haha. But I do project Martin will develop a consistent game by the upcoming season though. I'm not sure if that will be enough to warrant him a spot. Probably as an reserve like Roy from his first appearance. *crosses fingers*

Kobe's going to be declinging soon as well as Billups, Nash, Parker and Ginobili. They'll carry 5 guards likely. It's not unfathomable to think Martin makes the All-Star game in the next couple year, in fact, I think it's likely as he tends to improve some aspect his game EACH and EVERY year, while maintaining a high level amongst the rest of his game. At this rate, he COULD be the 4th-5th best guard in the West no problem.

Actually it has more to do with the kings wining 17 games and being one of the worst teams in the league.
Since this is Kevin's team now, that reflects on him somewhat. Just like the Blazers success reflects on Roy, or Lakers & Kobe...etc.

If Martin helps pick the kings back up and lets say in 2 years time he leads them into the playoffs, he will most certainly garner more respect around the league as more than just a scorer. I think then he might get voted on by the coaches, but not while the kings on still in the lottery.

the west is too deep for martin to make it, unless he has a superb year, which is unlikely, we all know what he is capable of, but outside of Kobe and Roy, there is plenty of guards I would choose over Martin any day

If the Kings aren't winning it won't matter, but I think he can make it a race with Roy if the Kings get better. Not as soon as 2010 though, Kings won't be there yet.

Funny enough after the first few comments in this thread I had the thought that Evans is likely to make it first and carry MARTIN into the ASG with him - a la Chris Paul/David West. I can see it happening in the next 2-4 years, but not right now. As above, the teams that win and win big pre-ASG tend to send one or two guys that would not necessarily have made it on their own merit despite their talent because there are other equally as good players in their conference.

I don't think Martin will ever be an all-star. There's just too many better guards in front of him, and I don't think Martin will improve much more. It's not hate, it's just being realistic.

Martin will never be an all star. He is a great scorer, but doesn't really do anything else great. Plus being on the kings give him very little exposure, most people don't know who he is. When your on a team this bad people don't watch them play.

I think Kevin Martin can be an All-Star..he would have to score an insane amount on good efficiency while Billups regresses..In addition, now that Jefferson is added to the mix Parker will have to give up some of the shots he normally would've taken last year and spread the wealth around meaning he is no longer a leading candidate come All-Star weekend..

Yeah, the main obstacle is simply wins. It's certainly not unfathomable that Parker and Ginobili's stats go down with Jefferson added, and Nash is likely to decline more. Billups has to decline at some point here (whenever that may be). Not to mention that an injury to any of the top 4 guards makes things much more realistic.

The team doesn't have to get any better necessarily. But if they don't, Kev has to put crazy stats.

which is exactly what I do :)

Martin could put up all-star numbers, I don't doubt that, but the King's limited exposure and the talent in front of him are just too much to overcome. Just like Bibby was never an all-star even though he was a great player at one point.

For NEXT season, I feel the only way Kmart is an allstar is either if
a) King's are about .600 mark, and the only noticable difference is Martin
b) Martin has roided stats like 30 pts, 4 reb, 4 asst, 1 stl, on .49% fg
c) Multiple Injuries happen to players above him (Kobe, Roy, etc.)
