Not a huge suprise however according to realgm & hoopshype.com the KINGS have signed 2nd round pick JOHN BROCKMAN to the team though i dont think he will get but a few minutes a game he will bring a much needed toughness to our team.

The sides may have agreed to terms or are close enough to say that the deal is going to be done in the next few days. But the Seattle Times, which is where RealGM and Hoopshype are getting their info, is jumping the gun on this.

As for the idea of Brockman, I have not changed my opinion since draft day. I think he's a guy who can help the Kings in the future and I'm happy to see him coming to Sacto.

The Kings need a guy to come in and get the attention of the leagues bad boys. When Kenyon Martin clocks Hawes, Kenyon needs to know there is a guy coming in to pull a Derek Fisher on him (You know, Fisher's vicious hit on Scola in the playoffs). While I don't condone dirty play a little toughness is needed from time to time.

Exhibit A: Ex-Lakers Fox was a well known scoundrel on defense. When Doug Christie hooked it up with him, Fox was shown for what he was.

If we eventually signed Brockman (and I think we will), I doubt he will get significant minutes behind Thompson, Hawes and Sean May. I think this move may be more into the roster count than anything. iirc we are lower than the minimum roster count.

Either way, Brockman's rebounding, toughness and hustle is much needed for this team IMO. Kind of a Reggie Evans-role player (but with more offense).

I think brockman could be a great role player for this team. He embodies everything the kings need in a big man, and his attitude and drive could be a vital aspect of this team. I would agree with you kingsfan that he won't get many minutes, but he will get spot minutes to prove himself and if someone gets injured, he could find a vital spot in the rotation.

I wish Brockman all of the luck in the world, but the frontcourt of the Kings is completely packed with guys who can play PF.

If he's 4th big he should still get some time and luckily for him and us because of the type of player he is he can actually contribute in that role.

Brokman is a future player, not necessarily a next year player (got to look down the road sometimes guys). Kenny "Tough-luck, the Pouting Frog" Thomas will be gone after this season...possibly by the trade deadline if someone wants his expiring deal. May is a 1 year contract that has to prove himself and Greene needs to demonstrate some real growth in his abilities before I get too excited with his longevity. The Kings may have "bodies" for next season...but there are still a lot of question marks for the future of the front court.

Well, I don't know about that. I think you have to consider players such as Greene and Nocioni are able to play minutes that Brockman will play. So, technically, he is competing minutes against Hawes, Thompson, May, Nocioni and Greene.

So no, I don't think Brockman is able to make a substantial impact in his "role" due to limited minutes. Brockman and Thomas are going to spend a lot of time together haha.

But I think Brockman will contribute in the future though. Depending on his contract status/team status though.

He's likely the 4th choice at C, and I would at least assume would see minutes there over Greene and Nocioni. Brockman is a lot like a former Kings in Justin Williams in terms of how he can impact the game. Rebounders rebound and typically rebounders can do that effectively relative to their minutes. It's when you start asking scorers to be effective in that way that you find your premature "busts".

The thing is, Justin Williams only played in garbage minutes in his stint here. He didn't received any significant minutes (probably towards at the end of the season, he received big minutes). He only showed flashes of promise in terms of rebounding/shot blocking.

I would expect the same with Brockman's case. Not enough minutes but shows flashes of potential in rebounding and etc regardless.

Uh, garbage time is still playing time. And Williams averaged about 11 mpg at one point and put up 5 and 4. "Garbage" man players, which Brockman is a little more than reminiscent of should put up numbers per minute in limited minutes and little opportunity.

Yes, you are correct. But not just only playing time though. It is a variation of playing time and huge amounts of DNPs. The inconsistency of playing time for Brockman's case can be a very hard to indicate one's strengths and weaknesses. (But all we know that Brockman is a proven rebounder, bruiser in the college-level)

My point is that, Brockman's minutes of playing time will be very scarce. And we shouldn't be surprise that he is not getting any minutes due to depth implications.

Brockman isn't the type of player you really need to determine any strengths or weaknesses. He's about as cut and dry a player you can get. Would be sweet if he developed a mid range shot though, he took a few in summer league and his shot really didn't look all that bad. I'd still take a 4th big with no real true guaranteed 40 mpg player ahead of him getting some minutes, albeit scarce, since he can realistically play two positions.

Again, my point was that Brockman will hardly see the court. And more than anything, this was a move that fulfilled the roster count which we were under the minimum roster count.
