Mason Close to Deal with Kings

Desmond Mason met with the Sacramento Kings this week and could sign as soon as Thursday.
Mason took a physical after meeting with Kings officials in Sacramento on Wednesday, a person with knowledge of the meeting told The Associated Press. The preson spoke on condition of anonymity because a deal had not been signed.
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... ith_kings/I would not mind this at all.....if we weren't completely log jammed at the wing. Is this a sign that a trade is coming? I just don't see how this makes sense.
I DO like Mason though.

I like the signing because going to the bench for the Kings has been an adventure. Yes we have wings (Garcia, Greene, Martin, Caspi) but we don't have good ones. I'm not ready to say Greene will pan out as a starter in the league, and Caspi isn't ready for serious run. I don't think it's a sure sign of a trade, but it's a sure sign we don't have a backup at the 2.

This actually came from way left field. I did not expect this news. I remember Petrie said that he isn't expecting any moves during this offseason i.e. signings/trades
Mason is a decent player but I just see this move like "meh"
Hopefully, it isn't for the MLE or something haha

Hmm, it is supposedly a 1 year for the vet min via Amick's twitter.
I think this deal means there are going to be more trades. i.e. potential Nocioni trade?

If it's the full MLE i'ma go and murder Petrie.
But, hopefully its the vet's min, in which its a good signing.

im at all shocked by this, i've never really seen mason play, only known him from the sonics, but a decent signing in my book, surprising though.

WTF!? The only thing I can think is that Westphal has something to do with it. This pretty much crushes our cap space this year for sure. The little we had left of course.

Pretty much glues Casspi to the bench though. Should have left him in Europe and saved the money. I feel that 1mil or so in cap could have been used more wisely if a trade isn't looming.

We were logjammed on the wing regardless. Garcia and Beno were the backups at the 2. Unless Westphal plans to go really, really small this just added to the squeeze that already existed.

great GP strikes again... At first i thought this was not so much of a good signing, until i really realized how our roster was situated. Then i realized the caliber player Mason is which only spells full MLE to me, but it seems the deal is going to be for the vets min.
Mason to me is not a good fit, but he fills a need and he is a nice player to have. I just hope this is a clear indication that Kenny and Noc are gone for some serious cap or w/e.
I still can only recall him as being only a dunker who can occasionally hit the J or the three (if he's lucky). But he is a tremendous slasher, especailly while he was on the Sonics. Can anyone who has followed him give me more insight of his game?

FINALLY WE SIGN A GOOD PLAYER!!! (don't get me wrong he's no star or anything, but he is by far the best we have signed in a while) Always liked Desmond, since his early seattle days. I am happy now lol.

oh and YES we finally have someone who can DUNK a basketball with style. Should bring some excitement to this team. (I just thought how sloppy Martin's dunks are)

I like Mason. I think he's a lot like Dahntay Jones. For some reason we love renting those kind of players. Anyway he is something we are missnig so it would be a good sign. However my concern is still the logjam. I say we make a trade for a backup 7 footer or just expirings is fine too. Regardless there needs to be a trade IMO.

You have to remember that Westphal plays a run and gun style, and to do that you actually do need a swing-heavy roster that has several slash-scorers who can finish at the rim. This just makes sense AND it seems to foreshadow a trade somewhere out in the near future. Maybe some kind of deal with the Mavs for the guys that they want to clear off - we do have both roster space AND cap room.

I think this solidifies us as 'small-ball' philosophically speaking. I've felt for a while that we need more depth at the 2 because I still see Garcia swinging to the 3 a lot behind Noc.
As of today I see a roster that looks more like this:
C: Hawes - 32 minutes, Thompson 16 minutes
PF: Thompson 16 minutes, May 20 minutes, Nocioni 12 minutes
SF Nocioni - 18 minuetes, Garcia 12 minutes, Mason 18 minutes
SG: Martin - 34 minutes, Garcia 14 minutes
PG: Evans - 30 minutes, Beno 18 minutes
Sure SRod, Greene and maybe Brockman will see some spot minutes here or there due to foul trouble, injury, or match-ups. But that's our 8 man rotation there we might go 9 deep and I think Sergio is the likely 9th man.
I really was hoping for a legitimate back-up Center, but I do think two guard depth was the 2nd biggest need to our roster.

How the heck in any way is a veteran's min one year a BAD signing?
Mason is a fine player. Should help if Greene and Cassapi aren't ready.

A typical Petrie move would be to sign Mason, but then after the signing dont make anymore moves.

Mason is a great signing a 1 year 1.18 million deal he is a great defender not to mention not a bad shooter as well .
We all don't know inevitabally what PETRIE & the KINGS will do down the line with our roster though it looks like there wont be any trades before the season from this point on that said if we struggle into the season who is to say that k-mart or garcia wont become more expendable trying to get picks etc.
I want to be clear to everyone i am not implying we are dealing anyone at this point & time but the point is we all dont truly know but if d.mason works out well then other players become more expendable not to mention k-mart could use a guy like mason as a mentor as martin needs to become a tougher player we all know k-mart can shoot but he is not a very good defender & if anyone else remembers a good reason why we origionally traded PEJA was because PEJA could not defend as well as he hardly ever stepped up his game in the playoffs were it really counts !
anyways i like this signing ....

I wouldn't realy call Desmond Mason a 2, he's a SF. I don't really get the signing, but for vet. min. what the hell, let's try it.

Mason is a shooting guard put can play a little small forward !
Signing could mean we deal NOCIANI to boston or we could deal someone else you never know ?
Even if there was no trade that happened it is still a good signing !
