I think he's 'getting it'. The way he's played the past couple games, I think he's understanding more what IS a good shot and what is a bad shot. His talent in undeniable, it's understanding the game and I think PW may be the guy that's finally CONNECTING Donte the physical speciman with Donte the NBA basketball player. I loved how he ATTACKED the defense when the came running at him FULL SPEED. That's RECOGNITION, and he's LEARNING.
Thoughts?

Re: All things Donte Greene...
I was one of the biggest Donte Greene fans even saying at one point that I thought he had the most superstar potential of any player we had. Well I thought the Donte Greene show was over in Sacramento, but he has proven that he DOES have a lot of potential (probably not superstar potential haha)

Re: All things Donte Greene...
Well to be fair, if he had one of his off games in Utah, this would be a different thread, since those were mostly outside shots. He was good against the Warriors. He certainly does have a lot of potential. I'll be interested in keeping track of him, particularly over the next couple of weeks.

I was hoping he could have a Kevin Martin type coming out party this year, and it may happen. His size and athleticism could make him a nightmare matchup for anyone.

Re: All things Donte Greene...
If Evans can learn how to get these guys the ball more to his guys in the post including Greene. His ceiling has Rashard Lewis and Hedo potential 20/6 territory. With Greene, JT, Martin, Casspi and Evans all learning to attack the basket... Look out.
I am a very excited with the direction this group is headed. We basically pushed around the Jazz in our game. I was impressed with the Nuggets last year pushing teams around but we are pushing teams around now. I can't believe I am saying this but we look like the Detroit Pistons with as strong in the paint (even Hawes) with this core evolves in the next 2-4 years. We are built to beat the Lakers or Dallas or Portland for many years.

It's all Paul Westphal and his staff. It's amazing what a competent coach can do. He still has a ways to go (and I blame that on the **** coaches we've had), but it does appear that he, as Smills said, is starting to "get it." He just has too much talent for him not to.

Re: All things Donte Greene...
I really dont like how the Kings are playing. It looks like a street pick up game. We dont work the ball in the post to JT or Hawes or even May. We play more euro basketball that is, drive and dish out for three's. The game versus GoldenState was a prime example. It's almost like we dont run set plays because all Evans does is attack the basket -- not that anything's wrong with that, it's just that I would much rather working the ball in the post.
I want to see more set plays but I don't know, is it just me?
Greene, well, it's too early to have a "All things..." thread for him because he is toooooo streaky. It's almost a roller coaster ride with this guy -- 2 good games and 18 terrible games.
I really love the way Beno is playing and if he continues to play this way (the way we grew to know he can play) then I'm sticking to my idea of keeping him around to be apart of the progression of the Kings
Ime is a chucker and will always be a chucker. He's a good defender though. If he can hit the three with a tad bit more of consistency then I think we've finally found our Doug Christie.
Casspi. This guy is solid! Keeping him overseas turned out to be a bad idea after all -- for all the posters who was for that idea.
Would like to see Evans be a pass first PG then take over games in late. Their is no reason why he cant avg. 7 apg with our shooting.
Well that's my five cents lol

If you sleep on Beno, he can drop 30/10 on you.

I'm loving the coaching changes!!!!
I'm not sold on Donte Greene. I think of him in the Tyrus Thomas mold where if you look at him as a prototype he's really intriguing, but when you see him play it just doesn't come together. I don't have a good feel on whether or not he will figure it out. I just don't see him being a big contributor in the league. I hope I'm wrong.

I think you need to play to the strengths of your players!!! I wouldn't want to see Thompson live in the post all night. He ha a versatile game so planting him in the post makes him less effective. Hawes isn't NBA post ready. May...I'm not quite sure he's NBA ready? Anyhow Udrih and Evans are crafty with the ball and are making great decisions on the fly. It also is the style of play they like to play so if I were the coach I would encourage it. I think it makes the team stronger actually.

Re: All things Donte Greene...
I wasn't suggesting that JT grows roots in the paint you know; merely suggesting it would be nice to see him at least get some touches in there...
On the Evans note, I don't think the "free lancing" play is the formula to beat good teams. When teams are locking down the paint -- the Orlando's Spurs', and Boston's of the world -- that style of play really doesnt cut it. It just increases the opposing teams lead imo.

D-Wade won an MVP in the finals doing it. Manu Ginobli (who is a Spur) should have won an MVP doing it. Chris Paul does it. The old Kings...you know the really good Kings didn't call plays. If you're good at improvising on the go you are less predictable. You have a plan and a point of emphasis to every game. The more the coach has to tell you where to be and what to do the less effective your team is.
I'm leaning towards your inability to see it verses blind freelancing.
Anyhow back to D-Greene....

Three straight solid games for Donte. He looks like he's finally jelling with the team.

Re: All things Donte Greene...
I think if Greene continues to grow and get it, he can be a big key for this team. This may be what led to the release of Mason.
Can you imagine A Good Greene and Casspi who has really surprised me I might add. It reminds me alot of the Magic last year with Lewis and Hedo
And calm down on the streetball moniker every team in the league mostly run pick n roll and the Evans has 2 big men that can make the other teams big man come out and honor their jumper allowing Evans to get to the rim. Evans gives the Kings something they haven't had even when Webb and Divac were here. A big guard who can go one on one at the end of the shot clock.
I am relly impressed with Westphal right now. Its like deja vu....I remeber Adelman coming in here after some early success but failing in his most recent stop. Let's hope Westphal can duplicate the success that Adelman had here.........
