RE: Recent trade discussions for a BIG MAN....

With the recent discussions of the Kenny Thomas' expiring trading chip between the Hornets(for Okafor) and the Sixers(for Dalembert) I was thinking one of the main reasons why these deals didn't work was, in Okafor's case he had too big a contract for too long for a rebuilding team like the Kings and in Dalembert's case, he's just not worth an expiring contract in and of himself.

That got me thinkng, the Clippers are a notoriously cheap franchise and are still having trouble winning with their current pieces. They have a lot of contracts set to expire in 2010, but have two big nooses around their financial necks at the moment in Baron Davis and Chris Kaman. If they were able to trade one or both of them for some expiring contracts, they're in a big enough market and would have enough cash, along with some nice young, CHEAP prospects to lure a big free agent or two. (If you're LeBron, wade, Bosh, Amare or Boozer, where would you rather go for the same money? New York city with Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler and Jordan Hill where it's quite frosty during the season, or LAC with Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon and DeAndre Jordan all in place where it's about 60-70 degrees during the season? Oh and you get an instant inner-city rivalry with a team in contention.

So without further adieu, I propose:

Kings deal:
Kenny Thomas

Clippers deal:
Chris Kaman

This save the Clippers money instantly and into the next 2 seasons.
This gives the Kings an anchor offensively and defensively at the 5 spot to rotate in with Hawes and Thompson for a VERY solid 3 man rotation amongst their bigs.

This deal leaves the clippers with a total committed salary for the 2010-2011 season of less than 28 million. Giving them roughly enough money to go after 2 major free agents next season. And IMO the most desirable Free Agent destination with the most amount of money to offer. LAC > NYK or NJN IMO.

If the Clips can find a taker for Baron Davis(not likely) then they'd have even more money to play with next year in FA. Even then as is, 25-30 million in FA money is quite significant.

The Clippers' big that will be on the block when Griffin returns is Camby, and he would be nice for the Kings. Think something to bring him here.

But they'll want more than a expiring for Kaman IMO.

Why? Camby expires, Kaman has 3 years left. They're not winning anything this year, honestly. they're worse than our Kings. Move the salary, clear the books and go after the Wade's, LeBron's, Bosh's, Boozer, Amare's etc and try to rebuild that way.

Because they have a 20/8.5 27 years old C locked for 2 more years with a decent contract. Kaman has still a lot to give to the franchise, but Camby is gone at the end of the season.

I can't imagine any of the players you name signing with the Clippers. If they trade Kaman, they should get value.

It'd take a whole lot more than Kenny to nab Kaman.

Better than Jordan Hill if you ask me.

This stuff should be obvious.

Just to give you an idea how LAC values Kaman and Camby, the Clippers rejected Minnesota's offer of a Mike Miller - Chris Kaman swap. The Clippers countered with a Miller - Camby trade (which as you can tell by now Minnesota rejected).

That just shows me how much LAC de-values Mike Miller.

How do you think King's management, as well as the Sacto community, would take to the idea of a Boozer for Martin swap? Obviously you guys love Kevin, but there is a lot of sentiment out there that he and Evans can't coexist, or at least don't fit well next to each other, and that Evans isn't really a PG but much more of a 2. Given that, along with your on-going need for a quality low post scorer/rebounder, wouldn't the idea of a Boozer for Martin swap be ideal? Boozer has been dominating again this season, after initially getting off to a slow start with his scoring touch, and is on an expiring contract, giving you guys ultimate flexibility for your cap as well.

Meanwhile, the Jazz are in desperate need of a shooting threat that can also take a little pressure off DWill in creating offense, and have Millsap rotting as a reserve behind Boozer when he could be putting up 18/10 himself as a full time guy.

Sounds like a match made in heaven, and I've been hearing the beginnings of rumblings about possible interest in moving Martin by the Kings FO.

So...just wondering.

Whatever they think of Mike Miller, you can bet it's not less than they think of Kenny Thomas.

Why? While Miller is considerably more desirable, he wasn't an expiring when the offer was made. K9 is now an expiring, and the once out of focus picture is becoming more and more IN FOCUS for the future of the CLips. There was no Griffin, there was hope of a team that could compete. Now, it;s obvious that this band of vets isn't the right mix, that it's time to build around Gordon/Griffin. Why not consider it more earnestly with the knowledge of things that have come to fruition.

According to that link, he was. The offer was made June 23...if he wasn't technically expiring, he would have technically become one in only 8 days. In any case he expires the same time as Kenny Thomas, so to say "Miller wasn't expiring then but KT is expiring now" is to miss the point completely.

Whatever the problem in LAC is, it isn't Kaman, and whatever the problem is it's certainly not going to be solved by dumping him for the expiring contract of a 3rd string power forward. If the Clippers do decide to move Kaman, other teams can and will offer a lot more than a badly overpaid expiring. It's just a bad proposal. Try offering some keeper value instead.

The problem with the Clips is chemistry plain and simple. For whatever reason you have the classic example that throwing together a whole lot of talent just doesn't automatically guarantee wins.
