Top 20 Sophmores...

Post#1 » by darkadun » Sun Nov 22, 2009 5:25 pm

Don't know if anyone saw this, but this is David Thorpe's ranking of Sophmores. JT gets a little credit, and even Greene is in there. Interesting. Whats most interesting is the top 2 picks are 19 and 20 consecutively.

1. Marc Gasol, Grizzlies
2. Russell Westbrook, Thunder
3. Roy Hibbert, Pacers
4. Jason Thompson, Kings
5. Greg Oden, Trail Blazers
6. Brook Lopez, Nets
7. Ryan Anderson, Magic
8. Anthony Randolph, Warriors
9. Rudy Fernandez, Trail Blazers
10. Chris Douglas-Roberts, Nets
11. O.J. Mayo, Grizzlies
12. Eric Gordon, Clippers
13. Danilo Gallinari, Knicks
14. George Hill, Spurs
15. Ersan Ilyasova, Bucks
16. Donte Greene, Kings
17. Mario Chalmers, Heat
18. J.J. Hickson, Cavaliers
19. Derrick Rose, Bulls
20. Michael Beasley, Heat
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

If CDR keeps it up, he might be in the top 5 at the end of the season, IMO.

Its an Insider article but heres the link.

And the bit about Jason:
4. Jason Thompson, Kings
Thompson has had some monster games for the resurgent Kings, showing his promise as both a power forward and a center. His activity inside, combined with his size and length, create many opportunities for him as both a scorer and a rebounder. Unfortunately, it also puts him in frequent foul trouble. As he learns to play smarter, the Kings will have a legit starting big man.

And Donte:
16. Donte Greene, Kings
No player has been a more pleasant surprise than Greene, who is playing extremely well in just 13 minutes a game. I've always loved the spirit he brings to games as a benchwarmer, but now he's doing it on the court with his play. He's scoring off the dribble and in transition, and he recently recorded a career-high 24 points on 19 shots against the Bulls. If he stops taking so many 3s and focuses on his game inside 16 feet, he might earn himself a starting spot in Sacramento.

Also, obviously, Thorpe is just going off of how these players are performing this year - not their potential impact in the future.

How the HELL is Hibbert in the top 3? Top 10, sure, but top 3? Com'n David. And randolph at 8? Please.

Although I don't necessarily agree with ALL of Thorpe's ratings, I do see why the top 2 picks from last year barely crack the top 20. this season, neither is really doing ANYTHING to help their team. I am not surprised about Beasley as I felt him to be WAY overrated coming out, but Rose having sophomore jitters makes me wonder.

I don't see how you can realistically argue with Hibbert in the top 3 given how he has played this year. He is rebounding and blocking shots at ridiculous rates, and and he is scoring very efficiently.

Yeah, there are no arguments about Hibbert IMO. He's playing very, very well.

He did that for like 3-4 games.

Seems to be based on numbers just from the first 8 or so games? CDR ahead of Mayo and E Gordon?
Anthony Morrow not on the list but Ilyasova is? How poor is Rose now?? He was a bit overhyped but this is nuts. Generally, a list that does not really mean very much, some guy gets a couple of good games and he shoots into the top 10....well,fine but you need to consider what is getting graded.
CENSORED... No comment.
