Trying to save some money, eh? Well how about...
Sacramento sends
Kenny Thomas (expiring)
Sacramento Receives
David West
Trade ID #5354202
Hornets get cap relief with expiring KT contract, and Kings get a talented young PF to plug in next to Thompson (perhaps moving him to C).
Thoughts?

It's a low-risk high-reward kinda deal. If it doesn't work out, we can always send him to a contender for an expiring just like we obtained him.. DO IT PETRIE!!!!

David West would be a quality big man and give Hawes years to develop. The toughest part would be how many touches would he get. Evans/Martin/JT/Casspi/Donte/Noci/Hawes/Beno/Garcia are a lot of touches to split.
Don't know what the best offer NO will get for him. Maybe Thomas and a 2nd rounder?

I would take West easily. I think it would be more than just Thomas though. I would take him just so he wouldn't destory us any more

I think Okafor makes more sense and the article states the Hornets would prefer to move Okafor than West. Okafor would make the Kings a real threat in the West. And would come at a cheaper cost as they might sweeten an Okafor/Thomas swap by adding a pick to the Kings.

Am I the only one who thinks West sucks?

A veteran PF is the second last thing we need. And it kills our cap next year.

I like him, but he is 29, going on 30. I mean I don't think it's bad per se, he would help us out and make us a better team, but he's not who I"d say fills a need. I agree Okafor fills a need for us more so

Lol. Thomas and 2nd for West would be a bigger steal than the Gasol trade.
West would get touches before, Thompson, Casspi, Donte, Noci, Hawes, Beno, Garcia...so that means nothing. It's like saying, don't sign Bosh, cause he needs a lot of touches...but so do Jt/Casspi/...

^ I agree. Major steal, and he could help us out alot. It would be a interesting dynamic the more I think about it. Adding West gives us 3 legitimate threats and go to guys. Evans, West and KMart. Thats actually a pretty damn good group. However, I think there will be many teams trying to get him, I don't believe KT actually nets us West. I guess its possible if there are not any better offers financially.
Regardless if we get West or not, I think it will be interesting in January if Petrie makes any moves.

I don't think the Kings need West. A defensive center would be a better move...........

Actually no he is not. I am not and never have been a West fan. I believe that his all-star status was created by Chris Paul's arrival in much the same manner that many other one-year all-stars are. It is the same deal if say JT or Kevin were to get voted on next year or the year after because Tyreke has carried us to 50+ wins. It is the nature of the NBA beast. My feeling is that although JT is still a year or two away from it, he is a LEGIT all-star style PF because he has not only the skills, but the SIZE that you cannot teach. He is already matching up quite nicely on a nightly basis with some of the elite PF's around the league and basically coming out even or better on most nights. West is smaller and has a tendency to pop on picks and fall in love with the 14-20 foot jumper MORE than getting his ass in the low post. This explain why he tends to get bulled by the bigger true top PF's in the League.
I am still very much a fan of working something reasonable to bring Okafor here. I think that if you look at the big pictures of what C's are paid in the NBA, he is not any more expensive than any other guy of his production level and his presence would legitimize our frontcourt and bring the respect that it is taking a long time for JT and Spence to earn on their own. I agree witht he posters above who say that we do not really need another PF so much as we need a guy who is a true C but a defense/rebounding oriented one. We start a true PF, and then shift to a b/u lineup that features either shorter stringer guys (Brockman/Noc) or more athletic quicker guys (Greene/Casspi). This works well not only for our roster, but in terms of creating mismatches or matching lineups around the league. PW isn't exactly a newbie at this, and he knows how to do it. I thnink that we still need to be patient and wait for the right guy to come available for the right cost. I'll say one thing for sure after last night
JUST SAY NO TO DALEMBERT!!! He really is an overpaid stiff. We were killing them until Brand came in the game and gave them a post presence!

I think bringing in Okafor would be very smart move. We're pretty much set everywhere else, lack of size up front and a interior presence is hurting us quite a bit.
