Bobcats Interested In Jason Thompson?

Post#1 » by rwheeler » Mon Feb 1, 2010 5:08 pm

According to wiretap:

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... _thompson/

Out of all the big men they have - Nazr Mohammed (6-10), DeSagana Diop (7-0), Alexis Ajinca (7-0) and oft-injured Tyson Chandler (7-1), there's nobody I'd want to give Jason up for...
can we just get a new arena already...

I don't think a straight up trade is any good.

We have two weeks of rumors ahead...stay tuned.

I would maybe do Chandler/Augustine for Thompson/Nocioni. That is about it.

Garbage/Talent for Talent/Garbage. I dont really want to give up on JT all the way but the way I see it we are going to go after a PF in the draft......Cousins (my choice), Favors, Monroe, Davis so in reality Thompson is available in my eyes. If we could drop Nocioni in the deal it is worth it. Chandler would be a great backup. With his injury-prone history a limited role would probably be better.

Well interesting tidbit that was left out unless you read the original article from the Sac Bee was that the Bobcats may also have interest in the expiring contract of K.Thomas. Appearantly he has been highly regarded by Charlotte coach Larry Brown since they were together in Philadelphia...

Still, its going to take more than what I see them offering for me to accept any deal for JT.

Ya i saw that. I would only trade KThomas if it got us a stud in return. Otherwise just let the contract expire. To give up JT, Charlotte would have to take on a little garbage (Noc contract). That is the only way I would do it.

A chance to get Gerald Wallace back in return? Do it!
Maybe like a JT + noc+ k9 for Wallace and Chandler.

If Kings management was dumb enough to give up on a 23 year Thompson.

Coach Brown and Michael Jordan (this is the now veteran GM Jordan not the crummy young GM) both love Thompon's fundamentals. The guy is a great all around big man. No he is not an alley oop guy but he is a fundamentals (like Duncan and Nowitzki) guy.

JT has gone through a rough patch only made worse by Westphal making the ice so thin that he broke through on many occasions. Westphal did the same with Spencer earlier when he struggled Westphal gave him cement shoes. Westphal just sucks with big men.

Westphal HATES fundamentally sound guys. Westphal himself was a physical guard and hates. He loves guys like Barkley and Rashard Lewis (like Donte and Hawes a great shooting, poor rebounding, no defense big men). JT stats are every bit as impressive (even with the struggling) as David Lee's 2nd year, Bosh's 2nd year, Nowitzki's 2nd year, LaMarcus Aldridge's 2nd year, Spencer Hawes 2nd year, Al Jefferson 2nd year.

Plus none of these big man had to be the #1 big man where they played. Not even Tim Duncan or Kevin Love or Bosh or Nowitski were there team #1 big man in their 2nd year. JT has been forced to be our #1 big man on a team where every defense is packing the paint for Tyreke.

Let the guy develop. When JT 's jumper falls it makes him ungaurdable because they can't crowd the paint for him. The guy is just an excellent all around basketball player. He had an entire month where he avgd 17/9/1blk in his SECOND YEAR and people are ready to trade the guy after a poor month.

If the Kings fans and coaching can't use such a complete young big man that makes a hall of fame coach (and extremely tough judges) like Larry Brown and MJ drool then they need to reach inside and pull their heads out of their rear ends.

Any new big man the Kings would draft if they traded Thompson would take 3-5 years if they were Hawes (like Anthony Randolph) age and 2-4 if they were older like Thompson. Thompson in his second year already has as good a season as David Lee in his 4th year. Plus there are no gaurantees that they would deal with the pressure as well as Thompson has already. Getting rid of Thompson sets this team back YEARS.

Why would you put years of minutes and dollars into a guy to develop then trade him right as he is showing signs of stardom? Why would you GIVE AWAY an up and coming big man you put money into for some other team to take him and reap the rewards from?

I was Longhorn myself and would not take DJ Augustine (plus an overpaid and nearly crippled Tyson Chandler) for Thompson (who has missed 0 games in his career unlike Martin or Tyreke) for any amount of money.

Only way this happens is in a three way trade.

There is absolutely nothing on the bobcats that fetches Thompson besides Wallace, but I still wouldn't do that because of age/contract/glut of SF's.

Anyway I'm sure a lot of teams would "like" to have Jason Thompson, doesn't make it news worthy imo.

If Jason Thompson ends up in Charlotte his career is over. Larry Brown would never play him. I'd probably trade him for Ajinca's ears. But most of you are right. A straight up trade wouldn't work for the team.

I think JT has hit his ceiling to be honest with you. He is not "special" in any category except maybe fouling and he is no way going to be the superior post presence we need to move into a playoff/contending team. If we could dump Noc's contract it would be worth it. There are at least 5 big men in this years draft that will be better then JT. This season is over, time to start looking at the lottery and moving the pieces that are going to hamper us in the future, like Noc.

I'm not so sure I agree. I think JT has a lot more developing to do. IMO I don't think he will ever be considered a bonafide "superstar", reflecting on how you mentioned he is not "special" in a specific cat; but he has all the fundamentals like cdt3 was trying to explain to be solid in the league for the rest of his career. JT is a guy I'd want to keep around for the fact that even if we got one of the 5 bigs in the draft you are referring to, or even if we traded for one of the top bigs in the league, we still need a guy like JT for depth at the minimum. Injuries occur far too often during a season and to acquire somebody we consider the "future", we better have a damn good insurance policy to prepare for the worse.

maybe a 3 way with Bobcats, Mavs and Kings.

Kings get Gooden, Howard and Acie Law (all expirings)

Mavs get K Martin and Diop

Bobcats get Thompson and Noic

thoughts on that?

Maybe some trade rumors will get JT's butt in gear. He's been so terrible since 2010 started.

Bucks fan here. We've got an 9 page thread going on this.

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=982345

I'll present one offer if JT is available.

Jason Thompson and Nocioni for Ersan Illysova, Dan Gadzuric, Bucks 2010 #1 pick (top three protected)

Thoughts?

While I do think Jason Thompson has a very limited upside, he is a decent player, there just isn't anything on the Bobcats roster outside the obviously never going to happens that I'd like.
