Ceilings of Kings Current Roster
What would you say is the ceiling of the players currently on the Sacramento Roster? With all the young players some seem to have clear paths while others still are significant question marks, where do you see the current roster's potential.
I'll give a couple of examples
Tyreke Evans - the natural equivalent to me seems to be Dwanye Wade, similar 1/2 combo, similar driving ability
Donte Greene - I get the feeling that he's going to be a Lamar Odom type, not regularly consistent but flashes of brilliance.

Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed.

Re: Ceilings of Kings Current Roster
Casspi- Ginobili, spastic with great energy. Needs to become a better finisher on anything other than a dunk.
Thompson- Kevin Willis. I dont know why I just see a lot of simlilarity in their game
Hawes- Mehmet Okur with a better post game

Re: Ceilings of Kings Current Roster
Jason Thompson - a more agile David Lee.
Omri Casspi - A more athletic rich man's Andres Nocioni.
Donte Greene - A more athletic, tougher, but less of a pure shooter version of Rashard Lewis.
Jon Brockman - More skilled Reggie Evans but much, much better defensively.
Spencer Hawes - Somewhere in between Brad Miller and Pau Gasol.

I think the kings have a great future but these comparisons are rediculous. Hawes between Miller and Gasol? Are you kidding me? Donte Greene and Rashard Lewis?

Hawes is going to be at best Mehemet okur or brad miller of the past 3 years not his prime and Greene whos one of my favorite NBA players inst going to be anythong near rashard lewis. Think 13 and 6 a game.

Re: Ceilings of Kings Current Roster
Disagree about Donte. I think he will be a different player than Lewis, but I think he "can" become as good a player as him. We'll see, he is still 21 years old. He could be a borderline all-star someday, who knows. His athletic ability alone is fantastic. That put back dunk he almost threw down tonight would of been unbelievable.
and Hawes is same boat. He is 21. He can be better than Okur for sure. Will he? Who knows. We really won't know how good these guys can be or will be for another 3-4 years.

It's called CEILING buddy, and yes Greene has Lewis like potential. Prime Brad Miller is pretty modest for Hawes CEILING as well. Maybe you don't get the concept. They're only 21 for God sakes.

Like it was mentioned above, this is a conversation about CEILING. You're speaking in terms of average. There is no guarantee each player will reach that ceiling but the "ceiling" is what was being discussed.

Re: Ceilings of Kings Current Roster
Evans = Rich Man's Wade.
Casspi = A lot like the Knicks Gallinari, he can shoot and drive and has good height. Maybe a really really poor man's Larry Bird?
Thompson = Brendan Haywood. Actually I like this guy a lot.

Do you even know the meaning of the word Ceiling?

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

Yes I do. But i mean lets be real. Wilson Chandler is only 21 but i think we all know hes not the next Kobe. Just because a player is young doesnt mean they are going to develop every aspect of their game like you expect

True. I don't think anyone is expecting these things. But its fun to see what abilities they show, and guess how good they "might or can" become. How their career will actually play out no one can say, but we can estimate or guess as to what their potential future might be, and whom they could eventually end up being like. This is what fans and people who post on the interwebz do friend.

About Donte Greene: You're telling me that a 6'11'' 21 year old who can shoot the ball and is a good athlete has a cieling of 13/6 per game? Dude he averages 9/3 in limited minutes and almost a block per game right now, and has had a couple of 20-30 point games in his last few games. No way in hell is that his ceiling. His per 36 minutes per game right now are 15/6 or so. Gerald Wallace was a benchwarmer his first 3 years in the league, his first 2 years he averaged 11 and 15 PPG, and now he's a freaking beast. Donte's taller, very athletic, better shooter, and playing in his 2nd year and almost getting that. I have no problem seeing him developing into a more athletic Rashard Lewis, but I think he can be a better rebounder/shotblocker than Lewis and play the 4 better honestly.
And who says Chandler can't become a pretty damn good player? Just because dude's not going to be Kobe doesn't mean his cieling is some mediocre player.
As for the rest of the Kings, I like the above comparisons for Reke as a rich man's Wade, I like the comparisons for Casspi as maybe somewhere between a broke man's Bird and Ginobili(no I'm not saying he's anywhere as good as Bird coolkid

Well, you also can't just look at stats in relation to "upside". Guys either have it or they don't. It usually pretty clear who does and who doesn't. When a players skillset in combination with greater than average athletic ability exceed their production it typically allows for major growth in the latter.

Who said that they were expecting anything? The discussion is about the ceiling--precisely what will happen if players do develop every aspect of their game in the ideal way. Like others said, that's not what is necessarily going to happen, but it's about the ceiling.
And for what it's worth, Spencer already has a much better post game than either Okur or Miller. His shot, however, is not on par with theirs.
