Looking towards the future...

now that the season is winding down and the kings are not in play off contention, and im getting tired of the only topics on here is games we never end up winning, so i think we should look forward to the future by predticting realistic plans on how the kings can better themselves this offseason, they do have a signifigant ammount of money available, whats your ideal off-season plan for the kings?

Nba Draft:
We take either Xavier Henry if its a pick in the low lottery or evan turner or wes johnson if its a high pick, and take them and shape them into a good complementary 2 guard next to tyreke, wes johnson is probably most compatible to him, benos great but i think having his spark off the bench would be just as good if not better, we need another star player.

Free Agency: David Lee 5 years 90 Million (18 Million a year)
Have Lee come in and be that inside precense that we so desperatley need at center. either way, we need a shooting guard and a center with defensive precesne, and one of them needs to be a star potentional type player, imagine a front court of landry, thompson, hawes, and lee. scary. small forward is set with greene or casspi i think it should be greene but we will see next year, obviously point guard is tyrekes, so the kings end up looking like this:

Point Guard: Tyreke Evans/Beno Udrih/Francisco Garcia
Shooting Guard: (Wes Johnson, evan turner, xavier henry)/Francsisco Garcia/ Ime Udoka
Small Forward: Donte Greene/ Omri Casspi/ Andres Nocioni
Power Forward: Carl Landry/ Jason Thompson/ Donte Greene
Center: David Lee/ Spencer Hawes

First, Xavier Henry is garbage. The guy will be lucky to be a top 20 pick at this point let alone top 5-6 (where the Kings will be picking).

Second, David Lee for $18mil a year? Are you out of your **** mind? I'd have a hard time paying Lee HALF that much.

Lee is playing in a stat inflating system with absolutely NO help up front. Look past the stats. He's still one of the worst frontcourt defenders in the league and he still lacks anything resembling a goto move. Basically he's great to have as a PnR partner or a guy who gets the garbage buckets. But as your franchise player? And as your CENTER? That signing would be infinitely worse than the Rashard Lewis signing. BTW: apparently Lee refused to come here as part of the deal w/ the Rockets/Knicks. After the Rockets & Kings agreed on their end of the trade the Kings asked for Lee from the Knicks in exchange for McGrady & Sergio (possibly other pieces as well, who knows). Apparently Lee nixed the trade outright (he has veto power).

Also, what exactly is the point in taking a SG in this draft when:
a) We need frontcourt help
b) The middle of the lottery (where we'll be drafting) is extremely big man heavy. The best SG (after Turner) will be ranked mid teens on most boards.

yeah well i still think that we need another star type player and i think that player needs to come from the draft instead of free agency, ala no star players coming to sacramento unless forced to, your not gonna get a star center in the draft, your just not, other than cousins and even cousins im not that high on as a possible "star player" whos our number two option? carl landry? yeah hes great but hes not a second option you need another sg to compliment evans and i think that wes johnson could be that shooting guard im talking about i know hes listed as a small forward but i think he could play the two guard

Kids got skills, just keep watching.

David Lee is FAR from an answer at C for us however. With Landry and Lee in the frontcourt the players might as well cut holes in the back of their shorts for easy access.

Rather than a rebuild this feels more like sabotaging the kings future for the next 5-10 years. I think most of the other kings fans on this board have all put up better rebuilds than this one.

I've got to agree with those who think Lee is not the answer. Before "The Trade", I thought the Kings were one player ( a defensive center) short of being a playoff contender. After the trade, they still need a center who plays D, but now they need a reliable shooting guard as well. Unfortunately, you normally can't draft a center who comes in and plays D. Certainly, there's no one like that in this years draft.

^^^We already have our SG, and that is Evans. He's playing with Udrih in the starting Lineup that makes him the SG. I know he's not strictly a SG and he is the one who runs the offense but for all intents and purposes Udrih is the PG, he just doesn't run the offense. I don't think we need a huge upgrade at either guard spot either I really like what Udrih and Evans do together on the court. What we need is that defensive center and more consistent play from the SF spot.

Yeah besides that guy named COLE ALDRICH! He has the potential to be a defensive monster from day 1.

I just don't see that in Aldrich.. seems to robotic and stiff. Granted he'd get in better shape once in the nba, but I feel like he's just not the answer there.

I'm hoping we get the likes of Rudy Gay to put at the SF. Solid defender, good shooter, and can create his own shot if need be... def would be consistent to say the least. I think there are capable big men in the draft for us to go with and hope that Hawes keeps improving into what he hopefully "could be".

I do feel if for some reason we hit the top pick or two, that we should take Wall/Turner and see what happens with it. Either keep them and adjust around it, or use them as trade bait for an established NBA big man.

^ Agreed. I think most of us agree that a huge name FA is not coming here. However, we do have the cap space, so the following is scenerio in the realm of possibility. Considering I didn't see us ever getting a guy like Landry, you never know. So...

First, sign Rudy Gay, who would give us another go-to guy, someone who a consistent threat to go off. Plus he is only 23, so he is a few years away from his prime. Adding him would give us a 3 way threat with Reke/Gay/Landry. Secondly, we send Bobby Jackson to the lottery, and land the second pick in the draft. Using it to draft Evan Turner.

We bring Turner in off the bench to shore up our second unit. Turner/Cisco/Casspi/Greene/JT is a pretty solid bench IMO. We still need a another big, but we could wait till next year's draft, or make a trade by next deadline using one of our Wing's.

No more SFs, for the love of God. Not unless he's Lebron, and that isn't going to happen.

First and foremost I think everyone forgets that rebuilding happens over a couple of years. So at this point we need to build our foundation instead of offering up big time money to players who probably will maybe make us 10 games better. I have no problem going after Lee or Rudy Gay. However, I think it will take way more money then we should pay to get either player.

At this point I want to see us keep building with young players. I would say at this point that Spencer Hawes and Jason Thompson are solid players. Are they starters? Who really knows. I do know they would be great to bring off the bench if they are not starters. I am really hoping we get the 2nd pick in the draft. I want Evan Turner. I think the guy is going to be an amazing player in the league. I think Evans and Him are a solid foundation to build around.

So does Tim Duncan, doesn't tell me much. Cole's actually a much better athlete than usually given credit for.

Yeah but Duncan was dominant in college. That should be a big enough difference between the two. Aldrich never has been and his numbers actually were worse this year. Dexter Pittman had more dominant games than Aldrich this year

The question wasn't about whether Aldrich was as "dominant" as Duncan, it was about him being "robotic and stiff".

Defensively he has dominated at times both individually and on help.
