Rank the draft 2023

Post#1 » by Upperclass » Sat Jun 24, 2023 8:15 am

Knowing now where all players have landed.. Rank the players in terms of impact in their situations. I think this was a pretty bad draft but there should be some useful players for a number of years

Stars:

Scoot
Wemby - Scoot will end up better statistically and more impactful, but Wemby will be plenty useful
Dick - Easy 20+ppg scorer at 2
Jordan Hawkins - Wont quite be a star but he'll contribute beyond a long-term starter.. Herro mold
Olivier-maxence prosper - also not a star, but jerami grant level production; Pretty clear stater at PF for Dallas next season.. shouldve gone 7 to the Wiz

Long-term Starters:
Rockets Thompson
Hendricks
Rayan Rupert - He's Thabo for someone when his shot comes around
Ben Sheppard - If he's allowed to run point in the Brogdon mold.. he's a starter for someone.. otherwise hes a bust. Cant play anywhere else on the floor for a team

High-level Rotation guys:
Nick Smith Jr. - Terry Rozier/Part-time starter
Cason Wallace - Replaces Dort as soon as this season
Sasser - Will start alot of games with Cade and Ivey
Jaquez Jr. - He wouldve been a really useful player anywhere
Kobe Bufkin - Reminds me of Delon Wright
Jordan Miller - Should start alot of games for the Clips
Jalen Pickett - if he landed anywhere else he probably isnt even an NBA player

Average Players:
Pistons Thompson (he'll be traded to the Rockets at some point)
George - Off the bench Jarryd Bayless type scorer that cant do anything else
Dereck Lively II - Prob closer to slightly below average player but he'll be a smarter JaVale McGee for Luka
Trayce Jackson-Davis - Warriors will make use of his skills
Noah Clowney - Ball of energy.. should be like young Nerlens Noel
Leonard miller - Spurs will find his niche
Brandin Podziemski - DDV pt. 2
Seth Lundy - designated 3pt guy for someone

Notable Busts:
Anthony Black - I dont know what he does on an NBA floor besides kick the ball ahead
Jett Howard - Probably wont even finish his rookie contract with the Magic
Jarace Walker - Small with no real skill on O or D
Brandon Miller - Generic 6'8 guy with no real skill
Jalen Hood-Schifino - Probably wont be for the Lakers though since he cant shoot
Bilal Coulibaly - If he landed anywhere other than the Wiz he wouldnt be
Cam Whitmore - Just doesnt seem to be an NBA player.. maybe he can turn into a small ball 4 for someone later on

Stating someone is Thabo and putting them in Long-Term Starter makes no sense. Thabo was never close to a long-term starter.

Isn't an "average" NBA player roughly a high-level rotation guy? I mean there are 15 guys on every roster, so let's say that means 8 "high level" rotation or better on every team. That's 240 players, which is more than half the league. The 8th man on most rosters is about the definition of average.

Whether a guy fits or not with his initial team generally just speeds up or delays his eventual NBA role. NBA players eventually find their fit on that second contract or via trade, or even if they have to prove it in Europe, GL.

I don't believe there are that many "hidden" NBA players that can't find a role somewhere. Way too many teams scouring the world for talent, even if it's just to fill the end of the bench.
