Thad has a lot of talent, but it is way too early to call him the steal of last years draft. Daquan Cook, Aaron Grey, Big Baby all deserve mention here.

I dont get when guys who were supposed to make immediate contributions and have low ceilings are steals? :dontknow:

Way too early to give anyone serious credit... Rudy will likely be that steal everyone's so quick to anoint.

Cook could be too in time...

Your guys' definition of a steal is warped.

Thornton, Young, Smith, etc. are not steals. They may be exceeding expectations relative to their draft position but not to the extent that they stand out above the remaining players under them in what could go down as the deepest draft in NBA history.

The steal of the draft at present is probably Aaron Gray, who's a solid rotation player the Bulls picked up 49th overall. That's insane. Even more insane is that some guys below HIM may even pan out into something better (looking at you, Ramon Sessions).

Give it a few years and we'll see how the first-rounders fared, but this is a really loaded question.

Agreed PNT. The term "steal" seems to be thrown around as easily as "combo guard" these days!! Damn buzz words!! IF you are taken lotto then there is a certain amount of expecation that comes with the selection. Maybe not straight away, but there is an expecation there. Anything less of at the very least meeting that expecation is not a "steal".

You can add DJ Strawberry to your list of Gray and Sessions.

And while we are at it, Jamerio Moon is the biggest steal of last summer.

Houston walked into San Antonio and plundered Scola.

Scola can't be the steal of last years draft, because he was not in last years draft. Reading is fundamental.

Rudy Fernandez for $3 million and being drafted at #24 will almost certainly go down as the steal of the draft. He's gotten better this year too. 32 points today to lead Juventut to victory in the Kings Cup and he gets the MVP to prove it.

Outstanding athete with basketball smarts galore. Great shooter! He's basically Richard Hamilton.

Well well, I remember being laughed at across these boards last summer when I was hyping up Thad (I even said his bball IQ, defense, and hustle would earn him PT :D ) . People rolled their eyes when I said he COULD be the third best player in the draft.

Anyways, I agree with the threadstarter Young will be the steal of the draft due to his eventual value. Right now he has been very productive(#1 in Per amongst rookies) and has had games where he was one of the main the reasons the sixers won (Hou, Mem, Sac). The team started to play it's best ball once Young got into the starting lineup. He is the second youngest player in the nba yet his bball IQ is incredibly high, he understands the game (lmao at guys calling him a dumbass and comparing him to Pietrus). Right now he is playing controlled and is not forcing anything. At Getch he showed off his nice outside J, with the sixers he has displayed great post moves. As he continues to work on his game, in 2-3 years he will a dynamic inside/outside scorer.

I said it last summer and I will say it again, he has the potential, the bball IQ, and work ethic to succeed.

J-Critt will also be a steal imo, he is a Baron Davis type of PG. Once he gets settled in, he will be a problem.

In terms of second round picks Reyshawn Terry will turn out to be a great pick for the Mavs. I just hope his time at europe can help him overcome what Roy Williams did to him (he messed up his head to the point where he would be taking 4 shots a game, he was all-ACC as a junior). If he gets his confidence(and aggressiveness) back, he can be a 15, 7 and 3 player. He has first round talent. Should have left as a junior.

For the 1st round, its Rudy.

Overall, its Aaron Gray and possibly Sessions(soon).
