Why isn’t RJ Hampton getting more love?

Post#1 » by azcatz11 » Sat Nov 14, 2020 4:17 pm

I know he didn’t play well overseas but he still was an ultra 5 star. I guess I’m surprised that most mocks have him outside the lotto...

Why not take a shot on him in the top 10? Mike Miller has said he’s completely transformed his shot and expects him to shoot high 30% from 3....

He's been out of the spotlight for a year plus his numbers weren't great, team played poorly.

His ability to finish off of floaters using his speed and his ability to slow down and pivot off of a speedy drive is going to make him a really good finisher. He has such a nice touch around the basket. He’s also a good defender. That jumpshot will be a big deal. I think he’s getting enough love. He doesn’t have a great frame, but it’ll do the job. His playmaking can use some work if he’s going to be a long term guard. I think he’s one of those guys that can be one of the best players in the draft, but there are like 18 of those guys. He has been getting a lot of love from pretty high in the lottery. I think both the Knicks and Pistons had a look at him, which is pretty high.

not sure if you are sarcastic or not, but you can very well rely on clyde21's ability to detect underrated prospects and sleepers.

he is underrated on most boards based on his potential being higher than a lot of other options with that speed and size combination but he is 2-3 years away from being a significant impact player besides in spurts in the nba similar to Maledon.

Maledon might be more ready than most players. He played a real role on a Euroleague and wasn't terrible. He was better than Hampton in Australia, for example. Maledon also has senior team experience for France.

If anyone is being overlooked, I'd say Maledon. What he did in the Euroleague as an 18 year is very impressive.

He should have shot until he dropped his fg% to 37%, and also made sure his team dropped to beibg the worst team in the league. That apparently raises your draft stock.

I have no doubts about the jumper, he is going to be fine there, my issues are with his built, physicality and IQ, he screams 6th man to me, and not a 2-way type

Sure he is fast and athletic but his body isn't built to get strong naturally, he is kinda sided, also attacking, which hurts him running PNR/offense, unbalanced, and his feel is not great

These type of players take time and normally flame out of their first team til they find some footing, he seems to be a real worker-good guy, so I'd take a chance late 1st cause of the shot making and speed, but he is not good enough for more

I dont think too many are expecting Maledon to be drafted to come over right away though. Im expecting he could take a minimum of 2 years to meet needs of any nba rotation beyond spot use
