So some early thoughts on my guy (Kuminga)?

Ya its just SL so cant really take much from it. The few things I think you can take away are, the dude has legit 3/4 size. When you see him out there, he looks big. I also think its pretty clear he is a strong dude, give him a few years to really fill out and no doubt will be a legit 3/4 guy.

Also athleticism, it pops when you watch him. Granted ya its still not against a full NBA squad, but even against the other first round picks and 2nd year players he has gone against. His athleticism just stands out.

I never really questioned either of these things, but I know some were calling him 6'6 before the draft, some were questioning if his athleticism really was all that elite and functional. I know this is the first time many have got to see him in a full game on a TV, just curious other people's takeaways so far.

His highlights really pop. One thing I'm extremely excited about him is his free throw rate. He was getting to the line at really good rate even in the G-League considering he was 18 years old. His decision making and shot selection seems really suspect still. It was like that in the G League and there's going to be a lot of growing pains with him. Also, he seems to have pretty small hands for his size. He missed like 3 dunks when I saw him playing against the raptors. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but being able to palm the ball is lowkey a very underrated trait to have.

Had a post going but lost it. Long story short, Utah is 6-0 in summer league play and I hope they can find more time for Trent Forrest during the season. He does everything you want from a point guard except shoot (and he’s 5-15 from 3 and 17-21 on free throws, so it’s not like a horrible busted jumper) and I’d say he’s ahead of a similar type of player in Alex Caruso at the same age.

Mobley’s defense hasn’t looked very impressive to me in these Summer League games thus far, which is a little disappointing. The motor just isn’t there in terms of providing activity around the rim. And on switches while he’s been decent enough, he’s gotten blown by more than I expected.

I’m hoping it’s just a cardio issue right now, because it’s weirdly different from what I observed of him at USC. So far, playmaking has easily been his most impressive attribute.

It'll catch up. Had a similar start the beginning of college, once it clicked though he was a problem.

not sure if Jalen Johnson is just on a hot shooting streak but if this shooting is real hes gonna be bonkers.

really awkward how Couch K had no idea how to use a a guy like JJ, a 6-9 dude who can handle, pass, defend, shoot 3s with the makings of an elite rebounder? :banghead:

hope Paolo doesnt have the same problems under K this season.

K is kinda washed. He is months away from retirement and hasn't coached good basketball in years. The man's main attribute late in his career has been his leadership skills and his coaching progeny network.

Boston dropping to the 50s is just as if not more egregious than Sharife dropping to 48...i legit have no clue what most of these NBA GMs are thinking but they all might be high on the same stuff

Clips grabbing Keon/Boston with the draft capital they had is a major coup...compare that to OKC with the draft capital they had...could've and should've been a lot better even tho I like some of the guys they took

Was 50/50 about him playing at home given what happened with T Clarke but, tough kid. Some size and time might produce on the level his talent says he should.

Loving this activity early from Garuba, about 4 or so up and down trips where he was around the ball closing out the defensive possession.

Just realized this while watching the blazers SL team. Emmanuel Mudiay is 8 months older than Chris Duarte. Wtf.

Ya Brandon Ingram is almost a full year younger than him and he’s already on his 2nd contract.

It's a shame that because he's from Africa he's already 23 years old and has no upside to improve.

But yeah I never got the complaints about his athleticism; if he's got one thing going it's that, to the point that it's been quite a few years since there was a lottery wing prospect with this kind of athletic profile. I think people were really overthinking it on him when he was either the unanimous - or close to it - #1 recruit in 2021 (and even if you were trying to say he's a full year older than advertised because he's from Africa, that wouldn't even make him that much older than someone like Holmgren who seems to be the favorite for #1 in the upcoming draft) and he clearly came from a unique context where he and Green were the only shot creators on Ignite and them being the only G league team to ever get on ESPN and have every front office scouting their games certainly made their nightly competition more formidable than what one would expect from the lackadaisical reputation the G league has.

Isn't JJ Jalen Johnson a wing/small forward mainly? Why would he be behind centers? He may be behind Reddish and Hunter and Gallinari. Seems like with his size, he can play multiple positions, including small ball center; so you are right. An article I just read thinks that the Hawks should trade Gallinari, so JJ can play more.

Jalen is going to be primarily a 4 and once he fills out a little more, will probably be able to play some small ball 5.

Paul Reed is an exceptional player. There's no one on this forum more of homer than I am.

Literally unmatched motor, his production has translated everywhere he went. College, G-League, Summer League and even the NBA, albeit in a very small sample size.

Unfortunately, the Sixers are absolutely clueless. They played Mike Scott who is out of the league now because he **** sucks, despite being a net negative and one of the worst rotation players in the league.. just because he's a vet and Reed was a rookie, and Doc the genius Rivers doesn't play rookies if Covid doesn't decimate his team.

And they added Drummond and two rookie bigs in Petrusev and Bassey this year. Unless he sees backup minutes at the 4 he's not seeing the court again.

He's a better player than a guy like Boucher(you can quote me on that anyday, I'll stand my ground). He just doesn't see the minutes.

Give the guy 20 mins a game and there will be two-three threads about him on the GB daily.

I will fight you for Reed top homer status. Meet me outside. Lol.

huh? JJ's a 4 and small ball 5 mostly. he's definitely not a swingman in any real or scalable capacity.

I think one quick improvement for Kuminga will be free throws. Just needs a little work on getting into a consistent groove.

In gleague I think the weird one-shot rule hurt him. Kept him from getting in-game reps from the line.

If you watch those games, it seemed like a bunch of times he’d miss the first 2 or 3 (or 4) FTs, then make the last 5-7 in a row.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.
