A little outlier-ish in passing indeed (for freshman).
Thought AST% alone is a bit crapshoot, augmented with BPM, looks like the top one have some signal

I scanned the list...and I am getting major riser alert from Malachi Smith. He is rated a high 3 star on 247, 4 start unranked on ESPN.
247 pic, listed 155 lbs

Rival pic, listed 150 lbs
Then on Dayton site, he has filled in his frame a bit. A physical leap can propel a player like this.

Though he still looks super small on Youtube. I wouldn't be surprised if he is 5'10" without shoes. I wonder if dude comes from a poor family not getting fed or something. Hopefully a year at Dayton can put 30 lbs on him.

I don't really want to go down this route, but the kid is from St. Raymond School For Boys in South Bronx, statistically the poorest congressional district in America.
Poverty is associated with childhood hunger, and hunger is associated with malnutrition, lowered/delayed growth. Plenty of NBA players have talked about poverty during childhood, even our boy Giannis has talked about growing up starving in Greece of all places. Part of the reason he was a lanky teenager when drafted.
Malachi was never a highly rated prospect, no where near the level for boosters from P5 schools with cash in a paper bag to appear. Also this is why he ended up in Dayton of all places.
I don't know what his home life was like. I'm just stating he grew up in one of the poorest neighborhoods in all of America. Perhaps it is not appropriate for me to suggest that his 6'0" 150 lb stature was due to inadequate nutrition. Perhaps he comes from a well off family in South Bronx...we won't really know unless he becomes a draftable prospect and starts giving interviews into his background/homelife.
Regardless, Dayton is now feeding him full meals to bulk up his stature. I'll be cheering for the dude to get drafted this year in the second round.
