Josh Minott - Sleeper?

Post#1 » by deepeeenn » Fri Mar 25, 2022 1:51 am

This kid looks really interesting. Seems like he has a pretty good ceiling, seems smart, has the offensive skills for his size, needs to add weight but looks very possible. Seems very willing to pass and reads the court well. Also, he speaks incredible well for his age and seems to be very conscious of the game and the details. This tells me he’ll be a responsible pro and should be pretty coachable. He just declared for this years draft and I’m curious where he goes. He says he’s confident in his work ethic and that will help him land in the NBA. From what I can tell, I think it’s real possible he gets drafted in the 1st round. I don’t think they way I project him, that Memphis did him any justice with their system. Wish there was more college game footage of him but his highschool highlights show a pretty poised and rounded player.

Being a Blazer fan isn't exactly healthy.

had a thread about him earlier in the season, high level athlete, blank slate kinda prospect that a FO might love as a developmental guy, very toolsy but raw without any real discernable go to skill at this point.

might take him relatively early as a flyer just b/c this class kinda sucks, and wings with his physical profile don't grow on trees.

He has ideal SF size + athleticism but is a totally blank slate. I like him honestly.

I'd take him with that Celtics pick if he's still available late in the first round. Very intriguing prospect.

Agree with the above. Love his physical tools and instincts and he shot the FT semi well. This class is also really unappealing. I'd take a shot on him late first.

He could be this year's Josh Primo.

possibly, but biggest difference is age which is what made Primo so intriguing, Minott is two years older at draft time

He looks like he would be a better pick for a PF.

If his age is 20 (01/25/02 DOB according to nbadraft.net), that makes him much less exciting. 18 year old blank slate struggling a bit in college, that's fine. 20 year old freshman struggling in college is getting a little suspect.

Primo for example is almost a year younger than Minott and was being more productive in a better conference.

Also for reference, Ty Ty "Kind of Old" Washington is gonna turn 21 on draft year as a Freshman is potentially only 2 months older than this dude. Ty Ty is getting discounted by his age hard right now among the mock drafts. No way in hell will I value him within 15 picks of Ty Ty.

Wendell Moore who is infinitely more productive (as a 'junior') is only 4 months older than Minott. Moore is mocked anywhere from a late lotto to early second round.

It's more so how would he do in that free safety role as an athletic defender, who can cover a lot of ground.

Welp, I'm wrong about this. Heard from two different sources now that it's Nov 25, 2002. If that's true, makes him quite a bit more interesting to me.
