What are the chances someone crashes the top four?

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Wed Jun 8, 2022 4:54 pm

Most mocks I see have Jabari, Chet, Banchero, and Ivey going in some order as the top four. As a Piston fan, I wonder what the chances are one of those guys is still there at #5?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Sac @ 4 is a complete wildcard, anyone can be available at 5 really other than big 3, don't think it's a lock at all or even close that it's Ivey at 4

and even if it is, don't think there is a huge difference between talent at 4/5 in this class, Detroit will pick from the same tier of player and go with Shaedon or Dyson or whoever.

there's an outlier mock out there that has Daniels crashing in and Chet dropping all the way to 6. I don't believe it for a minute but it sure would work for my Pacers.

I agree that the Kings are a wildcard, they could trade back, trade out, or take someone really unexpected like Sochan at 4. They should probably just take Murray or Daniels, but who knows what they'll ultimately do.

I think the Kings making a playoff push will strongly consider Keegan Murray here. He is the Haliburton of this draft. You don't see a superstar there. He's not a freshman. He does everything well and looks like a high end role player. But he can be so much more than that as we saw with Haliburton. They're trying to solicit offers for Ivey but moving back is a dangerous game given both Pistons and Pacers could use Murray and both seem averse to diving deeper into a rebuild.

So I think Ivey falls to the Pistons when the dust settles.

Seems like the right take on this. Plus one of the group at least out of a consensus top 3-5 almost always ends up sucking in the end anyways. If we are asking about a slim chance seems like it should reference the top 3.

My gut instinct for a while now has been Jalen Duren hopping into the top 5.

maybe at 5. I can't see him leap frogging any of the top 3 and it would be a big mistake for the Kings to try and pair him with Sabonis. also, the Pacers don't need him at 6.

OKC and DET could both really use a center..

Duren has been mentioned as a darkhorse at 5 by some of the Pistons beat writers, and he's confirmed in for a workout. I think he's likely the target for any pick received in a Grant trade

He'd be a fantastic fit in the lineup though

OKC might get one at 12.
