Someone put out a great comparison that I really like. Embiid compared to Marc Gasol. I think Embiid can really become a combination of the Gasol Brothers. Similar somewhat to Pau's offensive game (if his offensive game continues to improve at the rate it is) but with Marc's defensive game. At the least I think he can have Marc's offensive game but maybe not his strength.

If that is the case then:

1. You never saw Thabeet play as a Freshman or Sophomore.
2. You haven't seen Embiid play and you are just assuming what a 'raw African center' must look like.
3. You (like most of us) have trouble projecting athleticism and skill to the next level.

In short, Embiid is nothing like Thabeet. Thabeet couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time. The comparison is ludicrous. In fact, Embiid has already shown more skill than Sam Dalembert did when he was in college, and Dalembert has been a 10 year starter in the league.

There hasn't been a single prospect anywhere close to Hakeem any of the past 10-20 years. If you actually think about, even in the golden age of NBA bigs, we never saw another Hakeem type prospect.

Taking a C is almost always a giant gamble.

This is my top 5 rights now.

1. Parker (Can't miss talent, Melo/Pierce)
2. Randle (Zbo/Odom)
3. Emiid (Raw african big, might end up with Thabeet, might end up with Mutombo, Hakeem, who knows)
4. Wiggins (Ceiling as a MKG/Gay, handles too deficient, mentality too passive to become superstar in NBA)
5. Smart (Payton/Wade)

I don't know anything about Exum, but he is apparently very legit.

Embiid has been in my top 3 since the beginning of the year. I could see him going higher, but I think some team would be making a critical mistake if he is taken any lower.

My top 5 as of 12/4/13:

1. Andrew Wiggins: Something between Rudy Gay and Paul George. (Concernes: Make-up - Is he an Alpha dog?)

2. Jabari Parker: Something between Al Harrington-Carmelo. (Concernes: how he matches up physically to elite)

3. Joel Embiid: Anything from Olowokandi to Jermaine O'neil/Andrew Bynum. (Concerns: Bigs need a lot of develop)

4. Julius Randle: Anything from Michael Beasley to Larry Johnson/Antoine Walker. (Concerns: PFs game, SF length)

5. Marcus Smart: Something between Rodney Stuckey and Dwane Wade. (Concerns: Height for SG / instincts for PG)

Embiid and Smart's arrows are up, on my board.

That is better comp than Hakeem imo, Hakeem is just different universe athletically than Embiid

The only comparison to Hakeem is similar development stage at that age. He moves well but you're right Hakeem is probably the most athletic C when it comes to agility I've ever seen. Embiid moves well for 7-1 250 but no where close to Hakeem.

Embiid is listed at 7-1 250. If he actually weighs that much though then its a lean 250 and he could probably get up to 270-280 without losing anything in his movement.

Just heard a beat writer on KC sports radio talking about KU's +/- stats:

+1 when Embiid is on the bench
+88 when he's on the court

Sometimes stats can be deceiving, but not this time; those numbers are wholly inline with the impact I'm seeing him make on the court. Dude is a difference maker.

Joel Embiid is gonna be trouble. Anybody that thinks Embiid is gonna get drafted below #3 is kidding themselves... Or hasn't seen him play.

Embiid is already a better offensive player..hes a better passer and already has post moves something Drummond doesnt..

The fluidness coordination and footwork Embiid has for a guy his age and size is amazing. Also his passign ability for a young player is offf the charts i havent been as excited about a big man prospect in years..the game needs another great big hopefully he becomes that because he has the tools

I was very big on Drummond but it's more complicated than that. That move he made that ended up with a foul was ELITE level for a seven footer. Combined with his passing you can run a really good offense through him.

No one would trade andre drummond for a #1 pick. He is a guy that is playing top 10 C and is 20 years old. He may be all-nba team this year

I think you would be surprised. Not saying I would or wouldn't do it, but I GUARANTEE there are several Gms that would. Especially if they were high on Wiggins. I prob wouldn't do it for Ebiid because it wouldn't be worth the risk. Drummond is somewhat proven.

I don't think there is a wrong answer. It depends on your taste. If you prefer a Shaquille O'Neil like, physically dominating center, you choose Drummond. If you prefer a Tim Duncan like, skilled big man, I think you take Embiid.

Okay. This draft is officially overrated. It doesn't matter that drummond went #8 in the 2012 draft. He is as untouchable as anthony davis. He is averaging 13.6 on .618 ts%, 12.8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1.4 blocks. You don't get rid of a center who is averaging all-star numbers and arguably the 2nd best center in the league at age 20.
