I think Wiggins is much quicker and more explosive than Barnes. I have a hard time seeing him struggle in the NBA.
Then again, I just knew Michael Kidd-Gilchrist would be a stud. So, who knows ...
To solidify what people have been saying about Wiggins, the difference between his vertical (44") and Barnes (40") is close to the difference between Barnes and McDermott (36"). He truly is an elite athlete. The problem is that he didn't really utilize that much; only a little over a third of his shots came at the rim (36.5%).
However, I don't think Barnes is the best comparison. Only 17.5% of his shots came at the rim, leading to a lower overall eFG% and a much lower foul rate. However, when Barnes got to the rim he had an excellent 73.3% shooting percentage, whereas Wiggins only shot 63.6%. If anything, Wiggins struggles seemed to come from an inability to finish.
I think a better NBA comparison is Rudy Gay. While Gay and Barnes are similarly athletic, Gay's problems seem more similar to Wiggins; this year Gay shot 64.5% from the rim and shot about 26% of his shots from that distance. Take a look at this scouting report of Gay coming out of college, it could easily be applied to Wiggins just by swapping the names:
Gay’s all-around skill level is still lagging behind his outstanding physical attributes, and he struggles at times to live up to the immense expectations that have been placed on him through the incredible amount of hype he’s received since he was in high school.
Despite being an incredible athlete, Gay is not always capable of fully taking advantage of it, especially in half-court sets. His ball-handling is not up to par with his phenomenal first step, and he does not really know how to effectively and consistently create space for himself off the dribble. He relies too much on his athleticism and not enough on the crafty type of moves that all great wing players have in their arsenal to get their man Off Balance; including head and body fakes and hesitation moves to give himself more room to operate. His size works as a detriment at the collegiate level, as he exposes the ball to his much smaller perimeter rivals by not yet knowing how to use his flexibility to get his body low enough to the floor. His coaches in the NBA will have to work with him on being more fluid and not so upright, to better take advantage of his body control, which is just average at the moment.
Gay’s in-between game still needs plenty of work. Because he is such a gifted athlete and physical specimen, Gay can get a semi-open shot on the perimeter just by making a short dribble or two and elevating high off the floor. More so in the early part of the season he showed a tendency to abuse this part of his game, settling for too many fadeaway jump-shots outside of the context of the offense. This is not a part of his game where he is extremely polished in yet, which hurts his percentages from both the field and behind the arc. This was a major problem for UConn's offense until he recommitted himself to playing more to his strengths, particularly within 15 feet of the basket.
Wiggins is still more athletic than Gay and seems to be a better shooter, but given those weaknesses I would pick him 2nd behind a healthy Embiid.

I see a better version of Gay as a very good comparison. I think his ball handling is a step above Gay. I think his shooting is better as well. Rudy Gay with slight improvements would be the 3rd best SF in the league. Actually I think Wiggins has more defensive ability than Gay.

Thing is Wiggins does have a handle. He not an elite handle but it doesn't have to be elite. Similar to Durant his first step and length are so good he gets around opponents. He actually has NBA level step back and 2 dribble pull ups.
Durant's handle was never an issue. Wiggins' handles are highly deficient compared to most superstar wing players at the same age.
In 1996 they said Kobe Bryant didn't have a true position and had a questionable handle. When Michael Jordan entered the league people questioned the idea if he had the handle to play the second guard. One of the big issues when projecting players at the NBA level is realizing the difference in the NBA game compared to college and high school. At the lower level perimeter players are often guarded by smaller defenders with less space and lanes to drive. This isn't always a positive. Nobody ever questions Kevin Durant's ball handling? He get stripped constantly and his inability to handle against guys like Chris Paul and Tony Allen are a big reason why he has struggled against smaller defenders. Against players his size he is fine. This is not unique to Kevin Durant.
Now if we were talking about a SG prospect I would be a little more concerned about his ball handling. For the SF position people are way over blowing his perceived lack of a handle. This is not a guard position. Rudy Gay has little ball handling ability and he a 20 point per game scorer. For someone to say Wiggins can't score 20 is ridiculous. Luol Deng has been near 20 PPG and not even close to Wiggins in ball handling.
This is a forward position. Some of the best small forwards in league history didn't have great handle. Unless your comparing him to Lebron James he has plenty enough handle to be more than successful. Marvin Williams and Harrison Barnes had almost no shot creating ability at all. They were not doing this.

He has multiple moves in that one game alone that I'm still waiting to see from Barnes. Wiggins floor is a much better Rudy Gay. In that he has all his athleticism but a better handle and a better jump shot. I would not pass on Wiggins. His first step is insane. He may not be an amazing shot creator but he has as much as Paul George has. He has prime Gerald Wallace ability on defense. Another guy with no creating ability who at his peak was near 20ppg. Not nearly as skilled as Wiggins.
Rudy Gay may be a 20 point scorer but it takes him a ton of shots. If he could actually create properly or shoot he wouldn't be one of the biggest cancers in basketball.

You just said it. Gay can't really shoot. So when he does create his shot he can't actually make the hoop. Realize Rudy Gay is one of the highest usage players in the league. He has a terrible PER to Usage ratio. He actually is good enough to create his shot total. He is just terrible at finishing. Especially shooting.
Also Gay isn't good at getting to the free throw line. Even at the college level he only took 3 free throws per game at the same point in his career. Wiggins was much better at getting to the line than Gay. That usually translates to the next level.
Imo Wiggins right now is a better ball handler than Gay. Right now I think his shot might be better than Gay. He is much more likely to be able to shoot over the top of the defense from range. Matter of fact I could make a case that right now Wiggins 19 years old is better than Gay at 28. Which is why I don't consider him raw. IMO people use that word anytime an athletic player doesn't have a refined offensive game. When in reality Wiggins right now only needs the experience to be as good as Gay. Will likely be far superior in 3 years. With no improvement at all I would take Wiggins over Gay. Wiggins after 1 year at Uconn was not even in the same ballpark on Wiggins level.

Re: Andrew Wiggins is Harrison Barnes
Paul George seems to be the perfect comparison for Wiggins. They both have weaker handles which limits their game in comparison to a Lebron or Durant. They both have a lot of trouble creating their own shots.
I guess the worrisome thing is it is not normal for people's careers to advance like PGs as he has pretty much jumped a level each year. He went from 3 and D role player to all star/star pretty fast.
To me worst case Wiggins is Harrison Barnes, best case he is better Paul George, which would probably be a top 5-10 player in the nba. Elite level defense with good shooting but operates more effectively off ball.

athleticism is definitely important in basketball, football, baseball, etc. But the bottom line is, are they ball players. Teams should be looking at basketball qualities before anything else.

Wiggins is a much better defender than Gay was. There's a reason Gay was 8th in a not as deep draft and Wiggins is considered the first or second option in this draft.

Actually Rudy Gay was pretty damn good after he got traded to the Kings. He averaged 20/6/3 on 57% TS

Kevin Durant rookie :20.3 ppg on 43%
Lebron James rookie:20.9 on 41.9%
Carmelo Anthony rookie:21 ppg on 42.6%
Rudy Gay this year with Kings in 55 games:20.1 ppg on 48.2%
You are telling that Wiggins will post better offensive numbers than Rudy Gay now? That would make him the bestwing rookie in a long time...I love Wiggins, favorite player in the draft, whoever drafts him becomes my favorite team, but his ball handling and finishing ability right now are below average, definately worse than Gay.The Hype train has to stop with this guy

It is true that Wiggins is a much better defender, but many thought Gay had the potential to be a great defender. From the same scouting report:
A stat-stuffer with #1 overall pick upside, Gay is probably the most gifted and naturally talented physical specimen in the NCAA. It’s impossible to watch him and not get excited about his potential ...
... Defensively he has great potential thanks to his height, length and extremely quick feet. His attitude here is not what you would expect from a legit NCAA star, as he has plenty of hustle in him and has no problem getting dirty for the benefit of his team.
Also, both players were critically judged for not being intense enough in college. However, Wiggins seems to have better fundamentals and a better attitude, letting him get slightly better shots and clearly making him a better defender.

What really bothers me about Wiggins is how exclusive of a two footed jumper he seems to be right now. He looks so off balance when he goes off one foot.
I don't know how easy it is to correct but it's partially why he can't finish inside. He either awkwardly takes off with two feet from too far or he weakly goes up with one foot. I think Barnes has the same problem which is why he can occasionally throw down MONSTER dunks but doesn't really finish well in traffic.

There aren't a lot of stars in the league in general. The ones that do end up becoming stars came in with more polished skill sets. The odds are already stacked against Wiggins. I'd put my money on him becoming a quality role player like Leonard than him becoming a star.

Read my post and what I said. The only thing separating Wiggins from Gay is experience. Gay has been in the league for years and experience is going to help him be productive. If Wiggins and Gay both entered the league right now. Without any experience. Gay at his current skill set. Wiggins would still be a much better player.
Just to note I don't know what team Wiggins is going to go. His role will play big in his numbers. If he went to Phili I could see him doing 17 -20 ppg next year. He likely be the number 1 offensive option. Milwaukee or Cleveland not so much.
Rudy Gay has a career 16.4 PER. He has one of the worst PER to Usage rates in the league. His best stretch of Basketball in his entire career was with the Kings and it still not even that great. Only a few times in his career has he even hit .100 WS per 48. Rudy Gay is one of the least productive high usage players in the league. He in essence has to act like a superstar to give you average NBA production. Now the reality if Gay had an entire year just like his Sacramento time after the trade. Then chances are Wiggins won't match that until atleast his second year. However Gay has many years of not playing close to even that Sacramento level. Wiggins has very good shot even first year to be better than what Gay usually does.
