Bagley isn't getting plays called for him at this stage of his career. He is like Varejao + Faried + Noah combined. Double the sum of their potential and you get Bagley. Bagley has GOAT garbageman potential. That is his NBA position. Put backs and lobs only.
Trying to mold into a first option is going to be a fail. Bagley in my opinion is eventually going to be a third option blue guy kind of player. This is what I don't care that he can only finish with lefts on drives.
Interesting. I don't follow NCAA at all so I have no idea what to expect of him.
Is that the consensus about Bagley or just your projection?
Also, he seems to be consistently mocked in the top 5 (with a lot of sites having him a #2), is it worth it for an elite garbageman in this draft? I though there are quite a few potential franchise players in this one.
Lets be real here. Before the draft lottery, there were a lot of potential franchise guys...Ayton, MPJ, Bagley, and Doncic, but since the draft lottery, this draft has virtually turned to boo boo. All the top picks are being picked apart about their defense, which is laughable, because no one in the NBA really plays defense and ALL top picks are drafted for their offense. If these guys were coming out with top offense and defense they would be HOF'er type players. Tatum was thrown to the wolves on defense, such an easy target on young players.
If your team is in the top 4-5 of this draft, you see possible franchise type talent, if your team isn't, you see high flawed meh players with no chance of becoming franchise talent. And since the smaller market teams have the top picks this year, its more meh posts. Phoenix Sacramento Atlanta Memphis
Last year, with Philly Boston and LA having top picks the conversation was a different story, draft hype was incredible. IMO these players have much more potential than last year's crop.
I dont think its too uncommon for the top guys to get nitpicked at this time of the year. This is the time we usually see the top guys get nitpicked while the 2nd tier guys start getting a lot more love. With that said I do think Ayton and Bagley are seeing a really high level of nitpicking.
Im looking at them with the view point of we had a 19 year old that is 7'1 with a 7'4 wingspan that is a tremendous athlete that just blocked 2.5 shots per game in conference play in Ayton.
We also have an 18 year old that is 6'11 that is the definition of a freak athlete, the dude runs and moves around like he is a guard. Then when diving into his defensive stats:
0.79 ppp for his overall defense (74th percentile)
0.85 ppp for his spot up defense (69th percentile)
0.56 ppp for his isolation defense (83rd percentile)
0.46 ppp for his post-up defense (96th percentile)
Now Im not stating that he is a stud defender, but with his motor and work ethic + athleticism, I think he has a good base to improve on defensively. Ya hes going to have to get smarter, but that will come with experience. So its not like he doesnt have the physical tools or has major motor problems. I think a lot of it is just a lack of being asked and being coached defense throughout his career so far. Again not stating hes going to be a DPOY player, but I think he has the makings to be a positive defensive player, mix that with his rebounding and scoring, thats a scary combination.
