E-Balla wrote:Also Russell is the most statistically impressive freshman guard in years. Here's the top freshmen guards with over 28% usage ranked by offensive rating over the last 10 years:

Russell - 120.1 ORTG
McCollum - 118.8 ORTG
Curry - 116.9 ORTG
Harden - 115.7 ORTG

Good stat and good company. And Russell's playing against good competition. Looking forward to Ohio St vs my Terps. Trimble on MD is quite the quality freshman swing guard, as well, but he's a year older.

I think D'angelo Russell looks like a better prospect as a freshman than Brad Beal did.

Agree? Disagree?

Cliff and Dakari should be 1st rounders, I think a team like Toronto, Chicago or Phoenix could consider him, Dakari is more of a bench guy, but he could be serviceable for a number of teams, for example Dallas.

Portis is lock to be a 1st to me, he could go top20, I´d love to see him in Atlanta or San Antonio.

Mickey is the only one out of the rest that I will pick with a 1st but I doubt he declares, he loves LSU and they are going to get a big raise next season with Simmons and Blakeney coming into town, they might preseason top5-10 if Mickey and Martin stay, my guess is he does not go.

I like Ashley a lot, but he is been irregular since his injury.

My big concern would be how he finishes at the rim, Harden and Curry both have a variety of moves/great body control that allow them to be good finishers at the rim even with their athletic limitations. Harden has always been good at finishing but Curry has transformed that from a weakness to a strength so its safe to say it can be improved. Overall very intriguing prospect.

Harden was a terrible finisher early on. I looked it up and he was 47% at the rim and 39% on layups. Curry was below average for a SG but for a rookie PG he was solid.

I do think Russell will be bad around the rim at first too but NBA weight training and practice should help him improve a lot (honestly finishing ability is usually the first thing a player develops in the NBA).

I would take him #1 without thinking twice. Easily the most impressive freshman I've seen in recent memory.

I'd take him 1st at this point. I have a feeling we have another oden/durant rose/Beasley predicament by the time the draft arrives

Anthony Davis, Jabari Parker, and Jahlil Okafor aren't better?

I'd say D'angelo might be better than Jabari but Jah and AD have the crown.

D'angelo is the best 18 year old guard I've ever seen and I think most years I'd say he deserves to be the top pick but Jahlil is soooo good. Anyone else that saw the last 10 minutes of the game and watched Jahlil (with help from Tyus) takeover on both ends would agree with me too.

Honestly I wouldn't mind having the first or second pick this year.

I think teams may legitimately have a hard time choosing between Mudiay and Russell, but I can't see Russell going #1. Okafor and Towns ought to be ahead of him, just based on projected long-term impact. It's not clear Russell be able to do these things at NBA speed and against NBA defenses. That said, he might be the closest thing to Steph Curry we've seen in a while.

Okafor is going to kill his team on D. He may give up as many as he gets.

I've seen enough of him to know that if he improves and gives constant effort he could lock down the paint. Not blocking shots but he can affect shooters by being there and standing straight up (a 9-3 standing reach can do that). He's shown about as much defensive skills as a Demarcus Cousins with way slower hands and more restraint.
