I know this isn’t something that shows up on paper, but I really dislike his mentality for the game. Like I can easily see Coby White becoming a better player just because he has an intent focus in his game. Like I think it made a big difference for guys like Shai Gilgeous Alexander. YOu can tell when someone cares about their craft.

What makes you doubt Morant’s focus? The on court celebrations (which are admittedly annoying)?

He pretty much celebrates during a drive too. There are multiple reasons, part because he doesn’t look like he has discipline in his game. There are little things, like setting his feet, lacking awareness with pace, being in the right positions, control on defense or control on offense. I was a huge fan of Dejounte Murray before he was drafted and to me he had much much more discipline even if he was as raw of a prospect. Discipline shows up in bigger moments, when a team needs a stop or they need to score, when they need to control the pace or pass to the right guy. Morant doesn’t show up and take control of his team in any way. It’s about control. Getting hot at the right moments, taking good shots at the end of games. He’s just all over the place and doesn’t seem like a winning player to me. Maybe it’s immaturity, but I doubt it when he’s the focal point of the team.

Yeah the celebrating on almost every basket has annoyed me as well. Although that seems to be a thing sometimes when guys have a chip on their shoulders being under recruited. It’s not like Dame and Steph never celebrate.

For me it’s both how he celebrates and how often. Something grating about it. But I do my best to tune it out since it probably has nothing to do with anything.

Doordoor, I hadn’t noticed the some of that other stuff you mentioned, but I’ll watch for it from now on.

Yeah he did a lot of talking and mean mugging but it didn’t hit me the same for some reason.

Sexton had control in his game, he has a tight handle, he took over games, had clutch baskets as the number one option. He was double teamed and was able to get around doubles. Oh yeah, and he won with his team against quality opponents. He was the best player on a winning team.

well, here's what he's got that i like to see in a draft pick. fearlessness, like mitchel, like sexton. these guys coming up who play like westbrook

and 10apg is 10apg

He still gets so little elevation of one, he is a solid athlete and that's correctable, but I'd prefer less flashiness and a guy with more strength-base, lean muscle, tighter game

At one point his potential is too much to pass up, but he is gonna be as low as that makes sense in my board, which is probably late top10-late lotto, not a lot of special prospect in this class

The shooting motion and the strength are the top2 worries

hes in the late top 10 for me too, but I'm confident in saying he is a better prospect than Trae.

those same strength and athleticism issues were found twofold in Trae.

Trae was a clearly better prospect to me, not really going to entertain arguing about it

He's a smaller version of the only NBA player not allowed to even be on the bus.

I would say Trae > Ja. But it sounds in your case it sounds less to do with you being high on Ja and more to do with your perception of Trae, given you said late top 10 for Ja, clyde.

wasn't the biggest fan of Trae. thought he had his strengths and moments but some real hard flaws - like athleticism, strength, frame and decision making. IIRC I had him in the 14-17 range, and actually had Sexton and Shai above him as PGs.

i just don't see much consistency here, having Trae as a top 2 prospect, and then downgrading Morant for athleticism and lack of strength. the dots aren't connecting, but w/e.

Damn, I guess I’ll say it. Are we gonna give this dude any kind of credit for being awesome? I get the knocks. Frame, solely a one foot jumper, no off ball value - it’s a lot. But this 19 year old kid is doing things in the open court I haven’t seen since Wall was at Kentucky, he’s a legit ambidextrous passer, a sudden leaper on both offense and defense, and plays absolutely fearlessly. I dunno, I just think some of these critiques are missing the forest for the trees. The guy is pretty tremendous.

yea, this is what I dont understand. Trae couldnt jump, had a bad frame, not strong, etc...yet almost everyone had him as a top 5 pick and in an even stronger draft.
