Nope, just can't play college basketball. Pro is completely separate.

It'd be interesting to see what route they take. More exposure in G-League or more money in Europe.

Luka Doncic - 2018 1# Pick ~The Furure Of The NBA~ : Higlights MIX

Post#1202 » by arel123 » Sat Sep 30, 2017 2:55 pm

I really invested in this video so I would be happy if you could share it with as many people as possible
The video shows the best moves of Luca Duncic from the past year, as we know, he is going to be in the TOP3 of the 2018 NBA draft

Reminds me of Hedo Turkoglu. Turk would be a PF in today's league though while Doncic is likely going to be a SF. He reminds me of him in a lot of ways though, just smaller and more mobile.

One think you know with this kid is he's going to be good from day 1, he's used to playing against men. That alone will attract teams considering how much pressure there is for top picks to perform and how many fans and media are waiting around the corner to call people busts and demand heads to roll.

Don't know if this has been linked here yet, this is the most complete highlights video from the Eurobasket showing both the good and the bad.

I want to point out here that earlier I said Real Madrid would just get Campazzo to take Llull's role, and that Doncic, in order to maintain playing time, would be moved to SF.......

I was called a troll, laughed at, people claimed I never watched European basketball, I was mocked, people said I was a Doncic hater, etc.

Well, so far, that is exactly what Real Madrid in fact did. They got Campazzo. He took Lull's role, and Doncic is playing mostly at small forward.

So for people here that don't follow European basketball, and base some of what they know of it on comments here, you should remember, who is actually right on these discussions, and who isn't.

That’s not true, he played mostly as Sf. He played as Pg when Campazzo was out. Real signed Randle, I guess that will cemented Doncic even more on Sf, where is Real the thinnest by the way. And that’s how things in Europe are done. Nobody cares about prospects only team results count.

Point is not on which position he’s playing, but that he’s role won’t be much bigger than last years, like some people here were certain it will be. Real has brought Campazzo, Causeur and now Randle and that imho shows Real has no intention to give keys to Doncic and develop him for Nba. And why should he?
And don’t forget that in late february Llull should be back.

yeah, it's a little unfortunate we won't get to see him with a bigger role in Real, and likely that his stock drops a bit because of that. The top college prospects are going to have the keys to their respective offenses and put up good volume numbers and raise their stock.

It shouldn't matter to most decision makers though, as we've already seen how he does in an NBA-style offensive scheme (against near NBA-level competition) with Slovenia, under Igor Kokoskov. Was only as a secondary ballhandler so the extrapolation to potential primary ballhandler will still be somewhat a question. Floor pretty well established, ceiling still a bit unknown.

it is a few months to early to say he wont get a bigger role.

you cant draw such conclusion after the the second/third game followig eurobasket + ankle sprain. i am shure he will be featured more this winter. if campazzo or randle will have more of a role then him (even if he will be only 19 in the spring) i would be worried. in such case we have another nba scoring questionmark on him :) because really, who is chasson randle in talent, nba ranks?? :)

It’s early, but the fact is, that Real has brought 3 new players on positions Doncic can play. That at least means fewer playing time available. And if Doncic really wants to go in Nba next year, Real has even less interest to put him in charge. And don’t forget, Llull will be back when the games that matter will be played. In Real you have 14 players who can score in double digits any given Sunday.

EuroBasket isn't anywhere near NBA level. It used to be. But now, with all the stupid nonsense of FIBA over recent years, almost every team misses 5-10 of their best players at EuroBasket. On average, the EuroCup (level below EuroLeague) is a higher level of competition than EuroBasket now.

I'm not sure the style that Slovenia played matters much. Just because their coach is an NBA assistant does not mean he was playing with a more NBA style. In fact, Real Madrid plays much more NBA style than Slovenia NT did. If you are concerned about seeing him play in "an NBA style", then just look at any Real Madrid game. They play the same style as the Warriors or Rockets.

This isn't hard to understand. Real Madrid did not win EuroLeague or Spanish League last season, that was with Llull. Now, without Llull, they are going to have the same team, plus all their washed up players being even older? And just assume Doncic goes from a bad EuroLeague Final Four and a bad Spanish League Finals, to suddenly carrying the team?

Like I tried to explain to you several times, Real Madrid isn't an NCAA team, and it isn't a G-League team. They are not in the business of babying or developing players for the NBA. They are in the business of actually trying to win titles. And considering last year's results, their coach is on the hot seat.

The team's objective is to win, not to be concerned about how Doncic's minutes or numbers look. Don't be surprised at all if they continue to sign more players...guys like Rudy and Maciulis should have been retired a couple of years ago. And Carroll is in a rapid decline.

Anyone that follows EuroLeague closely, knew that Doncic wasn't just going to be handed that team this year. Most NBA fans seem to think EuroLeague works the same as say lottery teams in NBA. It does not. In a tanking lotto bound NBA team, sure, he might be "handed the keys". In a big EuroLeague team, that will consider failing to win a major title a failure - he's not being handed the keys. Same way he would not be handed the keys in an elite NBA team.

Anyone who watches some basketball saw that the eurobasket was played on a very high high level, and anyone who knows the game saw that slovenia played an outstanding tournament and most watchable game by far. It had a superstar in dragic, doncic as the upcomming creator, shooters in prepelic, 3&d in randolph, muric, aleksic etc doing the little things /roles. You claiming its on eurocup level its verz ignorant and weak. The final 8 games was some of the best basketball played in europe! And doncic and dragic carried that team. So doncic should and will have a big role this season in real. You know why? Because the team neads a creator like him. They dont have anyone thats even close to him. Lets talk in decrmber what his role is! And you can ensable your greek all legend team and they would get ran out of the gym by this years slovenian team. And let me tell you something. This eurobasket was closer to the nba game then the slow euroleague game is. So you can take your euroleague home with you. The 2017 champ almost loosing to a eurocup team (ljubljana) a week ago.

Trust me doncic will carry the load this season. It just wont be 2weeks after the legendary eurobasket :) so sit and enjoy the show mirotic2. Real doesnt need to baby sit doncic and give him time. He earned his time and bigger role in the european game :)

If you consider EuroCup (level below EuroLeague) to be a "very high level", then you have a completely different definition of "very high level", than I do. In fact, in Europe, no one , absolutely no one considers EuroCup a very high level, and it's clearly a better level of basketball overall than that EuroBasket was. The best FIBA Champions League teams would roll through teams like Russia, that was 4th in the tournament, and almost beat Spain for a medal.

If EuroBasket is a "very high level", then EuroLeague must officially be declared to be a vastly superior league to the NBA. To call EuroBasket 2017 some of the best European basketball ever is an extreme insult to European basketball. It's a joke compared to even standard EuroLeague play. Sorry, but please spare me the hyperbole, it adds nothing to the quality of the discussion.

On another note, Milos Teodosic, who is much slower and less athletic than Doncic is....got whatever he wanted on offense in his first NBA time, albeit in preseason. Could get anywhere on the floor, and could get his shot off, or get shots for others almost at will it looked like. And he is much slower and less athletic than Doncic is.

So, there should be zero worry or discussion from now on about if Doncic is fast enough for the NBA. Because he's way faster than someone like Teodosic. It really truly is amazing how much the NBA rules, reffing, and court size, make every single player so much "faster" than in FIBA play. Teodosic can't even get a step on guys in EuroLeague, but was able to do so due NBA rules...

Doncic seemingly can't beat anyone off the dribble in EuroLeague (we will see if the new dribble rule changes that eventually), but will probably have no such issues with the NBA rules.

This is so incorrect, I don't know where to start. Lebron was heralded as the best prospect to come out of high school ever.

The only knock on him was his shoot. He had elite passing/court vision. Had the tools to be a great defenders. Good rebounder. Good handles for his age. And yes he was a freak athlete.

Lebron was so touted for his skills that they even televised his HS games on espn on primetime. Something never done before.

Doncic is a nice player but this skill gap is wide with Lebron at the same age.

Your whole statement "Arguably, absolutely. He is by far more skilled than Lebron was at that age. No one can argue otherwise. " is just your opinion as a fan of Doncic. But you have absolutely 0 facts behind it.

Nothing, absolutely nothing I said was incorrect.

Doncic is a far, far, far better shooter NOW than Lebron was at this age. LeBron couldn't buy a bucket his rookie year. You can't possibly believe Doncic will shoot .488 ts% his rookie year in the NBA.

I'm not a fan of Doncic. At all. I don't give 2 craps about euroleague. I'm a huge LeBron fan.

If you honestly think LeBron was a better ballhandler than Doncic at this age you should just quit with the discount act right now. Doncic is the more skilled ballhandler BY FAR.

Dust the cobwebs off, put the sports illustrated for kids posters aside, and go watch film of LeBron at 18. Check out his rookie year numbers in the NBA. Watch the Olympics.

LeBron is the most skilled player ever to gave elite size and athleticism. But Doncic is BY FAR the more skilled player. The shooting splits, the passing, the ball handling... this stuff isn't even close.

And it's laughable to say LeBron has been on television since high school. Doncic games have been televised for YEARS now. Not just 1 or 2 games, ENTIRE SEASONS. He just won a gold medal dude. On Slovenia.

LeBron was busy mucking things up on the USA team at an older age. No Gold medal for a team of NBA stars. Gimme a break here man.

Im sensing another pro doncic uberfan troll taking advantage of being able to say the most absurd stuff (doncic vs lebron james ?!?) and actualy involving other uberfans in actualy discussing the possibility of lebron james beeing inferior as an 18year old phenom who had it all, to doncic? :D if that isnt trolling at its finest then i dont know :) :) but then again lebron wasnt playing against grown men he only played midgets :)

Doncic is a better shooter than rookie LeBron, i think that's pretty clear, and has been playing at a much, much ,much higher level of basketball than LeBron did before joining the NBA. In any other area of the game it is a wash or clearly LeBron's side in a potential comparison, i don't think even the most delusional Doncic fan can argue that he is similar as a prospect, let alone better, than LeBron was. And it's not a knock on Luka, were just talking about the top of the top
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.
